  • Hypermedia systems have the browsing mechanism using links and provide navigation tools to retrieve and represent multimedia information. In this study we designed and implemented a hypermedia system which has the hierarchical group and local map for effective navigation. We also propose the clustering mechanism which constructs a cluster tree and uses this knowledge for navigation. The system has been designed to integrate the browsing and searching function of the hypermedia system for efficient multimedia information retrieval and user-interface. This system can be used to develop hypermedia application systems in the area of encyclopedia, reference document information, electronic dictionary and electronic book.

  • In this paper, we propose a navigation algorithm for a mobile robot, which is intelligently searching the goal location in unknown dynamic environments using an ultrasonic sensor. Instead of using "sensor fusion"method which generates the trajectory of a robot based upon the environment model and sensory data, "command fusion"method is used to govern the robot motions. The major factors for robot navigation are represented as a cost function. Using the data of the robot states and the environment, the weight value of each factor is determined for an optimal trajectory in dynamic environments. For the evaluation of the proposed algorithm, we peformed simulations in PC as well as real experiments with ZIRO. The results show that the proposed algorithm is apt to identify obstacles in unknown environments to guide the robot to the goal location safely.

  • Vehicle navigation systems employ a certain route planning algorithm that provides the shortest path between the starting point and the destination point. The performance of a given route planning algorithm is measured through the degree of optimal route selection and the time cost to complete searching an optimal path. In this paper, various route planning algorithms are evaluated through computer simulation based on a real digital map database. Among those algorithms evaluated in this paper, the Modified Bi-directional A${\ast}$ algorithm is found to be the best algorithm for use in vehicle navigation systems.

  • Generally, the Terminal Based Navigation System(TBNS) used embedded road data searches a path that has less qualitative than The Center Based Navigation System(CBNS). TBNS has not used real time road data but it is recently able to use it with technique such as TPEG. However, it causes to increase a cost of exploring by using real time road data for improvement quality of a path, because of limited performance. In this paper, we propose a Dynamic Heuristic to improve quality of path in the TBNS. Dynamic Heuristic(DH) is not fixed data and is dynamically modified using transferred real time road data from server. In this paper, we propose path-lading algorithm with Maximum Speed Dynamic Heuristic (DH-MAX) and do an experiment. The DH-MAX is to be used the highest speed as DH, in real map divided by same size. And proposed algorithm searches path using the priority searching only of the fixed data, but also the highest speed with real time information. In the performance test, the quality of path is enhanced but the cost of searching is increased than A* algorithm.

  • Off-line ship chartering is done nearly through(by) the brokers. Because of the international scale of chartering marker, brokers spend too much times and costs on searching the most appropriate product which the consumers want. In this research, we propose the on-line Charter Product Categorization Model to search the products efficiently in the Cyber Chartering System. This Model will make concerned parties of the ship chartering to get efficient and unific product information. and to select the most appropriate product. In this research, we classified the ship chartering products into categories of cargo, ship type, and sea routes, and formed the definition of mutual relation of each products. Moreover we verified that this classification is necessary to search the products by the product searching experiment.

  • In this paper, the numerical methods of searching the optimal position of optical phase conjugator (OPC) and the optimal dispersion coefficients of fiber sections are proposed, which are able to effectively compensate overall channels in $8{\times}40$ Gbps WDM system with non zero - dispersion shifted fiber (NZ-DSF) as an optical fiber. And the compensation characteristics in the system with two induced optimal parameters are compared with those in the system with the currently used mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) in order to verify the availability of the proposed methods. It is confirmed that the compensation extents of the distorted 8-channel signals are improved within 2 dB power penalty by applying the induced optimal parameters into WDM system. It is also confirmed that two optimal parameters less related with the searching procedure of these optimal values, only if these depend on each other.

  • In this paper, we propose a system that starts with the searching result of user's query and continuously offers new keywords related to the query. The primary purpose of the proposed system is to help users find information that the users cannot explain clearly. The proposed system obtains useful information by connecting different information sources, represents the information under an integrated schema, and offers a cross searching environment. In addition, it presents a visualized diagram that shows relations between keywords so that users can easily find the desired information. Therefore users can find information easily in an envirionment that is not limited to a certain site.

  • Auto-navigation algorithm have been studied to avoid collision and grounding of a ship due to human error. There have been many research on collision avoidance algorithms but they have been validated little on the real coastal traffic situation. In this study, a Collision Avoidance algorithm is developed by using Fuzzy algorithm and the concept of Changeable Action Space Searching (CAS). In the first step, on a basis of collision risk calculated from fuzzy algorithm in the current time(t=to), alternative Action Space for collision avoidance is planned. In the second step, next alternative Action Space for collision avoidance in the future($t=to+{\Delta}t$) is corrected and re-planned with re-evaluated collision risk. In the third step, the safest and most effective course among Action Space is selected by using optimization method in real time. In this paper, the main features of the developed collision avoidance algorithm (CAS) are introduced. CAS is implemented in the ship-handling simulator of MOERI. The performance of CAS is tested on the situation of open sea with 3 traffic ships, whose position is assumed to be informed from AIS. Own-ship is fully autonomously navigated by autopilot including the collision avoidance algorithm, CAS. Experimental results show that own-ship can successfully avoid the collision against traffic ships and the calculated courses from CAS are reasonable.

  • One of the most important problems in time-varying image sequences is the automatic target tracking. This paper proposes a position prediction and tracking technique of moving object using fuzzy prediction. First, the object is segmented from background of the image using accumulative difference image technique. Then centroid of the segmented object is extracted by using the centroid method, and we propose to apply variable size searching window to the object in order to increase the tracking performance. Also, non-linear prediction is required for efficient object tracking. Therefore, in this paper, fuzzy prediction method is proposed for predicting the location of the moving object at next frame. An experimental result shows that the proposed fuzzy prediction system tracks the moving object in stable under various conditions.
