Vietnam is one of the most vulnarable countries affected by climate change and sea level rise. One of the consequences of climate change and sea level rise is the increase of salinity intrusion into the rivers which is challenging to irrigation systems in coastal areas. This indicates the necessary to study the ability of taking water through sluice gates of irrigation systems in coastal zones, especially in the dry season with the effects of climate change and sea level rise in the future. In this paper, Nam Thai Binh irrigation system is selected as a case study. The irrigation system is one of 22 biggest irrigation systems of the Red River delta in Vietnam located in coastal region. The computed duration is selected in dry season to irrigate for Winter-Spring crops. The irrigation water for the study area is taken from different sluice gates along the Red River and the Tra Ly River. In this paper, MIKE-11 model was applied to assess the ability of taking water for irrigation of the study area in current situation and in the context of climate change and sea level rise senario in 2050 (under the medium emissions scenario (B2) published by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam published in 2012) with different condition of water availability. The operation of the gates depends on the water levels and sanility conditions. The sanility and water level at different water intake gates of Nam Thai Binh irrigation system were simulated with different senarios with and without climate change and sea level rise. The result shows that, under climate change and sea water level rise, some gates can take more water but some can not take water because of salinity excess and the total water taking from the different gates along the rivers decrease while the water demand is increase. The study indicates the necessary to study quantitatively some recommended solutions in the study area particularly and in coastal region generally in Vietnam to ensure water demand for irrigation and other purposes in the context of climate change and sea level rise in the future.
This study was conducted to examine the water absorption, water-holding capacity, color and mineral contents in natural and cultured dried sea mustards on soaking treatment. Four dried samples of natural and cultured sea mustards were used for the experiments. The effects of soaking treatment on water absorption and water-holding capacity in sea mustards were examined, as the results, these were rapidly accelerated 5 minutes after soaking. It showed that water-holding capacity was significantly high in the case of high absorption of water by soaking. The L, a and b values were increased until 30 minutes after soaking. There was significant difference for potassium content between dried natural and dried cultured sea mustards and the natural sea mustard was 10 times as high as the cultured sample. All mineral elements in these materials were significantly decreased and especially, potassium were significantly more decreased at 50~80% of total content by soaking treatment. Ca/ P ratio in these materials by soaking was about 2~3 : 1 levels.
The relationship between the distribution of demersal fishes and that of the water masses was examined by using the catches data and hydrographic data in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea on May 13-19, 1996 and May 10-17, 1997. During the study period, the dominant fish species were Cleisthenes pinetorum herzinsteini, Lophiomus setigerus and Pseudosciaena polyactis. These three low temperature water species accounted for $21-24\%$ of the total catches. The percentage of the low temperature water species was high in the Yellow Sea and the coastal area on the continental shelf of the East China Sea but was low in the vincinity of Kyushu during the study period. In the East China Sea, the isotherm of $15^{\circ}C$ at 50m, mid layer depth, was located more southeast in 1996 than in 1997. The bottom water temperature was about it lower in 1996 than in 1997. The direction of the detided current on the continental shelf of the East China Sea was southward in 1996 and northward in 1997. Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water (YSBCW) strongly expanded to south in 1996 when the northward current was weak. But, Tsushima Warm Current (TSWC) strongly intruded into the continental shelf of the East China Sea in 1997. As YSBCW expanded strongly to south in 1996, the percentage of the low temperature water species relative to the total catches was high. But, TSWC strongly intruded and the percentage of low temperature water fishes was low in 1997.
The characteristic of cold water by upwelling in the southeast of the Korean Peninsula and the effect of sea breeze in this region are investigated. The coastal upwelling around the southeast coast of the Korea Peninsula is analyzed by using Coastal Oceanographic Data statistical analyses for 5 years were carried out. The period of an cold water event, on the average, was observed southwesterly wind events. The analysis suggests that strong and persistent southwesterly winds in period of an cold water play an important role of bring the moisture to the surface, generating persistent cyclone as jangma. In order to investigate the effect of cold water on sea breeze, we considered two case. First, Exp. 1 is not occurred coastal upwelling on sea breeze. Second, Exp. 2 is occurred cold water on sea breeze. Two experiments were completed separately to the effects of cold water by upwelling. The results show the sea breeze is stronger in Exp. 2, when the cold water occurs, and weaker in Exp. 1, when there is no cold water. In order to verify the effect of the sea breeze on the cold water by upwelling, on the intensification and change of direction of the prevailing wind, the sea breeze effectively intensify cold water condition.
This test was attempted to investigate the effects of some mix designs of concreteon the compressive strengths and corrosive rates when exposed to sea water of the West Sea. In this test, concrete mixes consisted of an ordinary concrete, a pozzolan concrete and concretes with different admixtures such as fly ash, pozzolith and vinsol resin. Compressive strengths of the concrete were measured at ages of 1-year and 2-years when exposed to both sea water and fresh water. Corrosive rate was tested at ages of 1-year and 2-years when exposed to sea water only. The results obtained from the test may be summarized as follows: (1) When all of concretes were exposed to fresh water, compressive strength of an ordinary concrete was the lowest at all mixes of concretes, and all of them showed higher strength as the exposing age is longer. It was evidance that the uses of pozsolan cement, fly ash, pozzolith and vinsol resin in mix design of concrete had an effect on increasing compressive strength and that fresh water also had an effect on curing concretes even though at a long-time age. (2) When concretes were exposed sea water, a concrete with fly ash was the highest in compressive strength and its strength was increasing as the exposing age is longer, but the other concretes were decreased at 2-year exposure. It was found that a concrete with fly ash was the most effective on compressive strength of all concrete, but the other concretes were attacked by action of the sea water. (3) The use of vinsol resin admixture was the most resistant to corrosion by sea water, while the use of pozzolith was the most serious at corrosion and the others were corroded to almost same extent. (4) The relationship between corrosions and compressive strengths of concretes was not clearly correlated yet. It was known that the corrosive rate of concretes could not affect to compressive strengths by 2-year exposure of the sea water. (5) Pozzolan concrete was the most effective in compressive strength when exposed to fresh water only, However, the use of a fly ash admixture was available for compressive strength when exposing to both fresh water and sea water. It was also noticed that the use of vinsol resin was not available for strengths of concrete but for resistance to corrosion when exposed to sea water. (6) It was found that the use of pozzolith was so defective in compressive strengths and corrosiive resistance when exposing to sea water that it was only available for fresh water.
Myofibril and actomyosin were prepared from red muscle and white muscle of fresh water fish and sea water fish, and their biochemical characteristics and SDS PAGE patterns of myofibril were compared. SDS PAGE analysis showed that electrophoretic patterns of myofibril were similar be tween white muscle and red muscle, while difference of 30kDa component of myofibril was detected between fresh water fish and sea water fish. When myofibril were treated with trypsin, difference in hydrolysis of heavy chain was observed between white muscle and red muscle. In activities of Ca ATPase, Mg ATPase, EDTA ATPase and ATPase activity pH curve, myofibrillar protein from fresh water fish showed higher specific activity than those from sea water fish.

The current system of the East China Sea, a marginal sea in the northwest Pacific, has a seasonal variation. The Changjiang Diluted Water, Chinese coastal water in the East China Sea, has different seasonal paths. It flows southward along the Chinese coast within a narrow band in winter and does northeastward the Korea/Tsushima Strait in summer, which has been a subject to many researchers. In particular, low salinity in the South Sea of Korea in 1996 and 1998 was in discord with the Changjiang River discharge and the Changjiang Diluted Water seems to play an important role in occurrence of red tide in the South Sea of Korea in 1997 and on the contrary, disappearance in the next year. These facts suggested that the Changjiang Diluted Water does not flow along the same path in every summer. According to the analyses for path of the Changjiang Diluted Water using ocean color images by SeaWiFS and salinity observations by shipboard CTD in August for recent years, the Changjiang Diluted Water in summer flowed within the range of direction from southeastward to north-northeastward anticlockwise. However, the Changjiang Diluted Water flowed northeastward toward Jeju Island of Korea for the most part. It is necessary to examine the influence of major factors on path variability of the CDW in summer such as surface wind, the Changjiang River discharge and background current.
The characteristics of surface circulation in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea are discussed by analyzing a great deal of current data observed by 142 sets of mooring buoy and 58 sets of drifters trajectories collected in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea through domestic and abroad measurements. Some major features are demonstrated as bellow: 1) Tsushima Warm Current flows away from the Kuroshio and has multiple sources in warm half year and comes only from Kuroshio surface water in cold half year. 2) Taiwan Warm Current comes mainly from the Taiwan Strait Water in warm half year and comes from the intruded Kuroshio surface water and branches near 27N in cold half year. 3) The Changjiang Diluted Water turns towards Cheju Island in summer and flows southward along the coastal line in winter. 4) The study sea area is an eddy developing area, especially in the southern area of Cheju Island and northern area of Taiwan.

Floating architecture is a type of building that is geographically located on a sea or a river. It floats under the influence of buoyancy, and does not have an engine for moving it. Korea is a peninsula surrounded by sea except on the north side, so floating architectures have been mainly focused on two points: solving the issue of small territory and providing various leisure & cultural spaces. Floating architectures are expected to save energy effectively, if they use sea water heat, which is known to be clean energy with infinite reserves. To use sea water heat as the heat source and/or heat sink, this study proposes a model in which a sea water heat exchanger is embedded in the concrete structure in the lower part of the floating architecture that is submerged under the sea. Based on the results of performance evaluations of the sea water heat exchanger using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis and mock-up experiments under various conditions, it is found out that the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the heat exchanger is in the range of $3.06{\sim}9.57^{\circ}C$, and that the quantity of heat transfer measured is in the range of 3,812~7,180 W. The CFD evaluation results shows a difference of 5% with respect to the results of mock-up experiment.
Tintinnid species distribution has been monitored in the northern East China Sea (ECS) in the summer of 2006 through 2011. This is used to understand the water mass movements in the northern ECS. The warm oceanic tintinnid species had largely spread in 2007 in the area, indicating that there was greater warm water extension into the northern ECS. However the extension of neritic water within the Changjiang diluted water mass has strengthened in 2008 and 2010 because the neritic species distribution had relatively grown in both years. These annual results based on the biological indicators of tintinnid species are well matched with the salinity change in the area. The warm oceanic species, Dadayiella ganymedes had frequently occurred over the study years and had shown a significant relationship with the salinity change. This is valuable as a key stone species for monitoring the intrusion of the Kuroshio within the northern ECS. Information from tintinnid biological indicators can support physical oceanography data to confirm ambiguous water mass properties.
