In this study, experimental and numerical analysis were performed on the survivability of a long pipe-type buoy structure in waves. The buoy structure is an articulated tower consisting of an upper structure, buoyancy module, and gravity anchor with long pipes forming the base frame. A series of experiment were performed in the ocean engineering basin of KRISO with the scaled model of 1/ 22 to evaluate the survivability of the buoy structure at West Sea in South Korea. Survival condition was considered as the wave of 50 year return period. Additional experiments were performed to investigate the effects of current and wave period. The factors considered for the evaluation of the buoy's survival were the pitch angle of the structure, anchor reaction force, and the number of submergence of the upper structure. Numerical simulations were carried out with the OrcaFlex, the commercial program for the mooring analysis, with the aim of performing mutual validation with the experimental results. Based on the evaluation, the behavior characteristics of the buoy structure were first examined according to the tidal conditions. The changes were investigated for the pitch angle and anchor reaction force at HAT and LAT conditions, and the results directly compared with those obtained from numerical simulation. Secondly, the response characteristics of the buoy structure were studied depending on the wave period and the presence of current velocity. Third, the number of submergence through video analysis was compared with the simulation results in relation to the submergence of the upper structure. Finally, the simulation results for structural responses which were not directly measured in the experiment were presented, and the structural safety discussed in the survival waves. Through a series of survivability evaluation studies, the behavior characteristics of the buoy structure were examined in survival waves. The vulnerability and utility of the buoy structure were investigated through the sensitivity studies of waves, current, and tides.

In the port of Ulsan with the area of harbor limit of $83km^2$, 25,432 vessels have been entering annually and only 35 vessels can anchor simultaneously at the anchorage. The area of harbor limit of Ulsan constitutes just 65 percent compared to $127.5km^2$ which is an average of main ports in Korea. In this regard, the port of Ulsan needs to expand the area of anchorages inevitably for enhancing the efficiency of port operation. To select the best anchorage area in Mipo harbor with the introduction of a concept of emergency anchorage, this study analyzed the safety of navigation and anchorage, and safety management, etc. in the prospected anchorage on the basis of the marine traffic survey observing traffic density. Furthermore, after drawing preliminary and final schemes through gathering the opinions from maritime users, safety management organizations and academic experts group, the best arrangement of emergency anchorage has been selected through the conference of interested parties. Then, the final scheme was also verified through figuring out the marine traffic system and carrying out the ship handling simulation.

Recently, the installation of submarine power cables is under consideration due to the increase of electric power usage and the development of the offshore wind farm in island areas, including Jeju. In order to protect power cables installed on the seabed, it is necessary to calculate the burial depth based on the characteristics of anchoring, dragging and fishing, etc. However, there is no design standard related to the size of target ships to protect the cables in Korea. In this study, we analyzed the design standards for the protection of domestic submarine pipelines similar to submarine cables, and developed the risk matrix based on the classification by emergency anchoring considering the installation environment, then designed the size of target ships according to the cumulative function scale by ship size sailing through the sea concerned. Also, we linked marine accident conditions, such as anchoring, dragging, etc. and the environmental conditions such as current, sea-area depth of installation etc. to the criteria of the protection of submarine cable, and examined the size of specific target ships by dividing the operating environment of ships into harbor, coastal and short sea. To confirm the adequacy and availability of the size of target ships, we verified this result by applying to No. 3 submarine power cables, which is to be installed in the section from Wando to Jeju Island. This result is expected to influence in the development of a protection system for submarine cables and pipelines as well as the selection of anchor weight according to the determination of burial depth.

Suction bucket foundation is installed with the differential pressure created by pumping water out of bucket. Bucket foundation has usually been utilized in mooring anchor for offshore platform or floating oil and gas production facilities in the open sea. After suction bucket foundation successfully was applied as the foundation for offshore wind turbines in Europe, it recently attracts much attention in Korea, too. To estimate the penetration resistance of the suction bucket foundation is one of the important matters that should be considered during its installation. This study carried out a series of model tests to investigate the penetration resistance of suction bucket foundation. And the mobilized soil strength factor was reviewed through comparing the experimental results by two installation ways (e.g., push-in-load and suction) and the results calculated by the conventional equation.
The purpose of this study was to improve the design of a mooring line by attaching a lumped mass to it on the seabed. A numerical analysis of the redesigned mooring system is performed to analyze the effect of the weight of the attached lumped mass using the commercial software Orcaflex. The ultimate tension of the mooring system with the lumped mass is compared with that of a bare mooring line in the original design. An appropriately designed weight for the lumped mass is found to induce a critical lifted point in the mooring line by floater motion in the ultimate condition to move toward the floater position from the anchor point, while maintaining a similar safety factor for the mooring line. On the other hand, it is shown that excess weight for the lumped mass induces snapping in a mooring line, resulting in low safety factor for the mooring system. The distance between lumped weights is shown to be a minor parameter affecting the safety of a mooring line, although a shorter line has an advantage from an economic point of view. Using the optimal weight for the lumped mass attached to the mooring line on a seabed reduces the mooring line length and installation area occupied by a mooring system under real sea conditions.
The abalone shell (Haliotis) is one of the most important resources for the coastal fisheries and it is popular as an aquacultural species. Proper cultivating grounds for mid-term nursery of abalone spats are required before releasing them. It is difficult for us to find good enough aquacultural grounds to rear abalone spats to 20"30mm of shell length. Therefore, we need to study a practical and effective new type of aquacultural device for the nursing of abalone spats by using open sea areas. We can find this kind of studies from 'Marine aya No. 1' of Japan, Though they focused on the easy operation, safe working and low operating cost, it involves so much initial cost that it is difficult for us to justify such expenditure. However, with a modified small buoy system, this submersible facility needs only a horizontal frame to fulfill its essential function and the vortical part can be removed. The working boat equipped with a pump can operate this facility to keep it submerged or floated. This paper deals with the possibility of this submersible fishery facility for the mid term nursing of abalone spats in the open sea. A small version of this system to ensure low initial cost is suggested and wave and current forces were calculated for the estimation of the weight of the mooring anchor.

Since significant losses of seagrass coverage have been reported from many parts of the world, numerous restoration projects through seagrass transplantation have been attempted worldwide. Different survival rates and establishment time of transplants have been reported depending on transplanting time and methods. The staple method, which is direct seagrass planting method using staples to anchor seagrass transplants on the sediments, have been widely adopted in seagrass transplanting because this method achieves high survival rates in various sediment environments. To assess the morphological plasticity and the growth characteristics of transplants, we transplanted eelgrass, Zostera marina in December 2004 using the staple method. Shoot density, morphological characteristics and leaf productivities of the transplanted shoots and shoots of natural eelgrass beds in the vicinity of the transplanting site and environmental parameters in the planting site were monitored for about 1 year postplanting monthly. Transplant shoot density increased without initial decline, while leaf width and sheath length of transplants decreased after transplanting. Leaf productivities per shoot of transplants also considerably lower than those of natural shoots for the first 3 months post-transplanting. Shoot density, morphological characteristics and leaf productivity per area of transplants became similar to those of natural population about 1 year after transplanting. Although eelgrass transplants might have experienced some transplanting stress during the early stage of the transplantation, transplants appeared to adapt well to new environments of the transplanting site.
The musical characteristics of Fishing songs in North Korean which recorded on Anthology of North Korean Folk Songs were examined in this paper. The results are as follows. Among Fishing songs in North Korea, there are "Rowing Song," the "Song for Hauling Nets," and the "Song for Picking Up Fish" in songs related to walleye pollack fishing and in songs related to croaker fishing, the "Song for Dropping Anchor" and the "Full-Load-of-Fish Song" in songs related to croaker fishing, the "Song for Weighing Anchor," the "Song for Shaking Fish," the "Full-Load-of-Fish Rowing Song," and the "Song for Hanging Walleye Pollack" in songs related to walleye pollack fishing. There are the "Song for Setting a sail" and the "Song for catching shells" in Fishing songs in North Korea, too. In the rhythmic elements of Fishing songs in North Korea, the tempo of the "Songs for Setting a sail" is moderato, and that of the "Songs for Picking Up Fish" of songs related to anchovy or herring fishing is quite slow. "Rowing Songs"(croaker fishing) have various tempos but faster than moderato, and usually get faster and faster as time goes by. Most songs have 4/♩. time and there are some of 2, 3 or 5 time. Some songs use irregular time or 6 time overlapping 2 beats. The mode Menari is the most common tonal system used in fishing songs of North Korea. And the mode Susimga, the mode Changbutaryeong, the mode Nanbongga, and the mode Odolttogi are also used in the tonal system of Fishing songs in North Korea. There are shoutting intonations that have indefinite pitch, too. Modulation or interaction by the mode Changbutaryeong appeared in songs of the mode Menari. There is a tendency to favor a certain tonal system by category. Responsorial form is mostly used, but in the most cases, they were sung in solo. In responsorial songs, several calling songs overlap with the responding songs. Durchkomponiert form is sung by antiphon or in solo, but the case sung in solo originally seems to have been sung by antiphon or unison, if we consider the procedure of the work. The "Song for Picking Up Fish" of Seonbong-gun of North Hamgyeong Province and Yangyang-gun of Gangwon Province, the "Full-Load-of-Fish Song-Bongjuktaryeong" of Jeungsan-gun of South Pyeongan Province and "Full-Load-of-Fish Song-Baechigisory" of Taean-gun of South Chungcheong Province, "Rowing Song" of Nampo City and Ganghwa-gun of Gyeonggi Province are resembled. In neighboring areas, even if the songs of different categorys, sometimes share a same melody. In a certain category, sometimes a same melody is shared to a considerable distance. It was first identified that in anchovy or herring fishing or dybowskii' sand eel fishing, the "Song for Picking Up Fish" is widely shared in the East Sea Coast area.

As a series of fundamental researches on the development of an automatic identification monitoring system for fishing gear. Firstly, the study on the installation method of automated identification buoy for the coastal improvement net fishing net with many loss problems on the west coast was carried out. Secondly, the study was conducted find out how to install an automatic identification buoy for coastal gill net which has the highest loss rate among the fisheries. GPS for fishing was used six times in the coastal waters around Seogwipo city in Jeju Island to determine the developmental status and underwater behavior to conduct a field survey. Next, a questionnaire was administered in parallel on the type of loss and the quantity and location of fishing gear to be developed and the water transmitter. In the field experiment, the data collection was possible from a minimum of 13 hours, ten minutes to a maximum of 20 hours and ten minutes using GPS, identifying the development status and underwater behavior of the coastal gillnet fishing gear. The result of the survey showed that the loss of coastal net fishing gear was in the following order: net (27.3%), full fishing gear (24.2%), buoys, and anchors (18.2%). The causes were active algae (50.0%), fish catches (33.3%) and natural disasters (12.5%). To solve this problem, the installation method is to attach one and two electronic buoys to top of each end of the fishing gear, and one underwater transmitter at both ends of the float line connected to the anchor. By identifying and managing abnormal conditions such as damage or loss of fishing gear due to external factors such as potent algae and cutting of fishing gear, loss of fishing gear can be reduced. If the lost fishing gear is found, it will be efficiently collected.

The stow net is a stationary gear made from netting, usually in shape like trawl net without wings. The nets are fixed by means of anchors, placed according to the direction and strength of the current. And the commercial fishing is associated with high rate of fatal and non-fatal occupational injury. The hazard factors analysis for the fishermen's safety of offshore stow nets vessel was conducted to serve as a basic data for improving the healthy and safe working environment of fishermen using fishermen's occupational accidents of the national federation of fisheries cooperatives (NFFC) from 2012 to 2014 (n=1,144). As a result, the average occupational accident occurrence rate of this fishery was 206.9‰ in all industries 36.9 times the rate of that. In addition, average death and missing rate was found to have a very serious level management to 50.4‰ in all industries of death of 42.0 times. The accident occurred in 84.5 to 94.6% was happened at sea. The struck by object, slipping, contact with machinery, contact by object or gear and others occurred more frequently in order on the frequency of accident occurrence pattern. However, the occurrence rate of death and missing did not match the frequency of accident pattern. In other words, slipping occurred frequently higher while death and missing risk was not high. And the contact with fishing gear and fall in the waters was low while death and missing risk was high. The results are expected to contribute for identification and assessment of safety hazard occurred in offshore stow nets vessel.
