복합곡면 NC 가공에서의 공구간섭 방지 (Cutter Interference Avoidance in NC Machining of Compound Surfaces)

  • Cutter Interference(or part surface gouging) is one of the most critical problems in NC machining of sculptured surfaces. Presented in this paper is and algorithmic procedure that converts CC data obtained from a compound surface(several surfaces without topological relationship) into interference-free CL data. The interference handling procedure consists of following steps: (1) Z-map model is constructed from input surfaces. (2) Interference sources are detected using local properties of the sources. (3) Interference regions are completely identified based on global tests for neighboring CC points of the interference sources (4) Cutter paths are reconstructed after removing the CC data in interference regions, while avoiding any new interferences.

  • This paper presents an enhanced method of slit beam projection intended for the rapid measurement of 3-dimensional surface profiles of dies and molds. Special emphasis is given to optimizing the design of optical system so that the measuring accuracy can be maximized by adopting two-plane camera calibration together with sub-pixel image processing techniques. Finally, several measurement examples are discussed to demonstrate that an actual measuring accuracy of $\pm$ 0.2 mm can be achieved over the measuring range of 500 mm{\times}300mm{\times}200mm$.

  • Contemporary, architecture calls for a wide range of surface textures and treatments. A surface compatible with the architecture's design may vary from a glass-smooth finish to one requiring special sculptured ornamentation. These surfaces require many different types of form sheathing and lining. The purpose of study development new design form and made elaborateness shape.   • In this paper, an OMM (On-the-Machine Measuring) system has been developed, which can perform measuring and inspection of sculptured surfaces of die and mold, by use of a scanning-type touch probe mounted into the spindle of a NC machine. The calibration procedures of a scanning prove (SP2-1, Renishaw) and an algorithm for measuring surface points by a ball-nosed stylus have been studied. The system has been developed based on commercial CAM software (Z-Master 2000), and tested through measuring a plastic injection molding-die. Also some experimental results of the calibration and measuring for given surface positions are analyzed to verify its accuracy and reliability.

  • 5-axis NC machining of sculptured surface using non-ballendmill cutters (eg. facemilling cutters) is widely used in the machining of turbine blades and marine propellers. Since there are more degrees of freedom in 5-axis machining than in 3-axis machining, generating "optimum" cutter paths and finding desirable cutter positions become very important in order for an efficient use of 5-axis NC machines. Also critical in 5-axis NC machining are collision avoidance, gouging checking, and efficient kinematic solutions. In this paper we discuss the above issues in generating 5-axis CL data. They are : kinematics modeling of NC machine; inverse kinematics solution; interference between machine component and surface; cutter gouging. A unique search method for obtaining optimal CL data is proposed. The proposed method has been successfully implemented in the machining of marine propellers on a dual 5-axis (ie, 9-axis) NC machine.C machine.

  • The objective of this research is in the development of a flexible 3-dimensional inspection system for the sculptured surface by integrating the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), CAD database, and vision system. To achieve the proposed flexible inspection system, two research categories are discussed in the study: new inspection planning method includes a new measuring point selection method and various new probe path generation methods. The object recognition and localization process for the unknown surface can be easily carried out by introducing a new concept called "Z-Layer". The experimental results indicate that the developed flexible inspection system, with the proposed algorithm, can be inplemented in real situation.situation.

  • Recently, the development of aerospace and automobile industries has brought new technological challenges, rebated to the growing complexity of products and the new geometry of the models. High speed milling with a 5-Axis milling machine has been widely used fur 3D sculptured surface parts. When turbine blades are machined by a 5-axis milling, their thin and cantilever shape causes vibrations, deflections and twists. Therefore, the surface roughness and the waviness of the workpiece are not good. In this paper, the effects of cutter orientation and the lead/tilt angle used to machine turbine blades with a 5-axis high speed ball end-milling were investigated to improve geometric accuracy and surface integrity. The experiments were performed using a lead/tilt angle of 15$^{\circ}$ to the workpiece with four cutter directions such as horizontal outward, horizontal inward, vertical outward, and vortical inward directions. Workpiece deflection, surface roughness and the machined surface were all measured with various cutter orientations such as cutting directions, and lead/tilt angle. The results show that the best cutting strategy for machining turbine blades with a 5-axis milling is horizontal inward direction with a tilt angle.

선형의 기하학적 모델링을 위한 직접순정법에 관한 연구 (Direct Fairing for Geometric Modeling of Hull Surface)

  • 선체 외판은 다양한 곡률을 가진 곡면으로 이루어져 있으므로 선박설계, 선각생산을 위한 선형의 기하하적 모델링에 있어서 순정작업은 시간이 많이 소요되는 일이나 피할 수 없는 작업이다. 본 논문에서는 교차순정법의 지루한 작업을 극복할 수 있는 수학적 순정법인 직접순정법을 제시하였다. 선체외판의 곡면표현을 위하여 3차의 B-spline 곡면식이 사용되었다. 순정작업은 외판의 변형에너지를 최소화하는 방법으로 수행되었다. 선체외판의 순정도 판정을 위하여 Gaussian 곡률과 판의 변형에너지의 값을 색상을 통하여 가시화 하였다. 순정작업에 의한 곡면모델로부터 산출된 선형의 기하학적 정보는 기본설계계산, 선각생산 등 선형과 관련된 전산시스템에 활용될 수 있도록 정보연계에 이용되었다.

타이어 사이드판의 문자 가공을 위한 4축 가공 시스템 (A 4-axis NC Lettering System for the Side-wall of the Automobile Tire)

  • The letters of the automobile tire are usually engraved on the side-wall. The shape of the side-wall is a sculptured surface generated by the rotational sweeping of a profile curve. The letters laid on the side-wall are usually designed by a 2-dimensional CAD. It is impossible to machine the letters on the surface accurately by 3-axis NC machining, because the axis of cutter should be tilted to align with the normal vector of the surface. In this case. the degree of freedom for the machine is at least four. This paper describes an idea for tool path generation of a 4-axis machine by using the 2-dimensional CAD data of the letters and the surface of the side-wall. This study includes the following procedures; (1) measuring the profile of the side-wall surface and curve-fitting of the measured points. (2) the 'non-parallel projection' of the letters on the side-wall, and (3) an inverse kinematics of the 4-axis lettering machine. Procedures in this paper are programmed in C-language on Windows95 environment. With a PC based CNC controller and a 4-axis lettering machine. these are tested sucessfully for the practical use.
