The Development of a Balancing Control System for the Anti-Rolling Rail of a Delivery Ship (용달선의 횡 동요를 억제하기 위한 곡선레일의 수평유지장치 개발)

  • A delivery ship is used to handle the cargo with the crane to/from the ships. The ship is inclined in the direction of a cargo which is hung on a crane. In this case, a arc shaped rail should be in the equilibrium state to get good anti rolling performance. In this study, a device and control algorithm are developed to take accurate and quick equilibrium of the rail. The device is composed of a hinged immovable support and two screw jacks. And the control algorithm demands two controllers. One controller is designed such that the screw jack 1 and 2 follow the position reference signal generated by a tilt sensor. The other controller of two degree of freedom is designed to remove the synchronous error occurred between jack 1 and jack 2. The simulation results show that the desirable control performance is achieved.

And the control system is based on I-PD control law to consider of control input saturation and overshoot. The controller is composed of integral controller of feedforward path and proportional-derivative controller of feedback path. The parameters of controller is designed to follow the reference signal and to remove overshoot. The simulation results show that the desirable control performance is achieved.

Effects of Strut Preloading on the Restraining of Adjacent Ground Displacement at Braced Excavations (버팀 굴착시 버팀대 선행하중의 인접지반 변위 억제 효과)

  • The bracing system using screw jack is not effective for the restraining of adjacent ground displacement. since the screw jack dose not induce sufficient preloading on struts. In order to protect excessive displacement of adjacent ground at braced excavation, new preloading jack was developed in the country. In this paper, the new preloading jack and the measurement results of the lateral displacement of braced wall at three deep excavation sites in Seoul city are introduced. The measurement results showed that the maximum displacements of braced wall are smaller than 0.15% of excavation depth, therefore the wall displacements can be minimized by preloading which is acted on bracing. If the bracing system with new preloading jack is used in braced excavation, it is effective for reducing the cost and period of construction.

  • The non-explosive release device using jack mechanism is designed and fabricated for the small satellite. As a triggering actuator for the release device, a piezo rotory motor with torque of more than $1.7kgf{\cdot}cm$ is employed to guarantee stable activation. For performance tests of separation device, we conducted release time test, preload test and shock test. The device was operated within 1.172sec and activated stably under load of 45kgf. Maximum shock was measured as 18G that is much less than the pyro-separation device produces. We confirmed the possibility as a satellite separation device through above presented tests.

A Case Study on Design and Construction of Subway Tunnels Underneath Existing Buildings (건물하부 통과를 위한 터널설계 시공사례)

  • This paper concerns a case study on the design concept, analysis, construction methodology of a subway tunnel excavated in the soft ground beneath an existing building where the distance between the bottom of the building and the crown of the tunnel is separated by about 3 meters only. The silot tunnels are excavated in advance, and side reinforced-concrete walls are installed. Then, main tunnels are excavated with ring cut method. The steel ribs are installed and supported by the side walls made in advance. Between the steel ribs and the side walls, the screw jack is installed to apply prestressing so that settlement can be controlled at minimum. Various in-situ seasurements are made and compared with computed values obtained by numerical methods. By choosing this underpinning method with very caraful construction control, tunnelling projects could be finished successfully without having any damage to the building located very closely to the tunnel crown.

  • There are about 2.4million disabled in Korea, 2009. Also, Korean society entered into an aging society. Therefore disable and elderly are getting more involved in our society. This study proposes simple ramp design for wheel chair users and welding method and condition for manufacturing. In the middle of ramp, screw jack and motor are installed so that ramp can be moved left and right side. To make the ramp moves easily, ramp was fixed by installing LM guide on both sides. Ramp production for using Nd:YAG laser certain dissimilar welding in stainless steel sheet and cold reduced carbon steel. The output was fixed by 3kW, the speed was increased to 2~7m/min, Argon was used as shielding gas and the flow rate was changed to 10~30L/min. The proper welding condition is the output 3kW and welding speed 2~5m/min.

A Novel Axial Foldable Mechanism for a Segmented Primary Mirror of Space Telescope

  • Future space missions will have larger telescopes in order to look deeper into space while improvising on spatial resolution. The primary mirrors for these telescopes will be so large that using a monolithic mirror will be nearly impossible because of the difficulties associated with its fabrication, transportation, and installation on a launch vehicle. The feasibility of launching these huge mirrors is limited because of their small launch fairing diameter. The aerodynamic shape of the fairing requires a small diameter, but the height of the launch vehicle, which is available for designers to utilize, is larger than the fairing diameter. This paper presents the development of an axial deployment mechanism based on the screw jack principle. The mechanism was designed and developed, and a prototype was constructed in order to demonstrate a lab model.

A novel preloading method for foundation underpinning for the remodeling of an existing building

  • The utilization of buildings can be improved by extending them vertically. However, the added load of the extension might require building foundations to be underpinned; otherwise, the loads on the foundations might exceed their bearing capacity. In this study, a preloading method was presented aiming at transferring partial loads from existing piles to underpinning piles. A pneumatic-type model preloading device was developed and used to carry out centrifuge experiments to evaluate the load-displacement behavior of piles, the pile-soil interaction during preloading, and the additional loading caused by vertical extension. The results showed that the preloading devices effectively transfer load from existing piles to underpinning piles. In the additional loading test of group piles, the load-sharing ratio of a pile increased with its stiffness. The load-sharing ratio of a preloaded micropile was less than that of a non-preloaded micropile as a result of the reduction in axial stiffness caused by preloading before additional loading. Therefore, a slight reduction of the load-sharing capacity of an underpinning pile should be considered if the preloading method is applied. Further, two full scale preloading devices was developed. The devices preload underpinning piles and thereby produce reaction forces on a reaction frame to jack existing piles upward, thus transferring load from the existing piles to the underpinning piles. Specifically, screw-type and hydraulic-jack type devices were developed for the practical application of foundation underpinning during vertical extension, and their operability and load transfer effect verified via full-scale structural experiments.

A Study of Board the Train Designed for Wheelchair Users on Welding Condition (휠체어 사용자를 위한 열차 탑승 장치 설계와 용접 조건)

  • The ratio of mobility handicapped was 12,110,000 in late 2009 about 24.4% of total population. The number of handicapped population is increasing continuously due to traffic accidents and industrial disasters. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to suggest a design for passengers on wheelchairs to get into and off to raise handicapped or elderly people's right of mobility. The scope of this research is mobility handicapped especially wheelchair passengers who use vans, small buses, and trains. The ramp design of vans is module form. The ramp is moved with screw jack and guides are installed on each side to increase stability. Moreover, a bridge was installed for smooth getting in and off of the van. The ramp design for small bus is lowed by 200m in order not to have obstacle such as speed bump when getting in or off. In order to reduce vulnerable environment and administration, air slide cylinder was chosen. Lastly, for the ramp design of train, the principle of link was used that the simpler structure made the weight lighter and installation in the train became easier. If we look at the conjugation condition of heterogeneous materials to produce a ramp, proper welding condition for cold steel plate and stainless plate is 3kW output and 3-5m/min of welding speed using laser beam seems proper.

  • 현재 국내에서 시행되고 있는 '4대강 살리기 사업'은 하천에서 발생하는 홍수 및 가뭄재해방지를 위한 다양한 공학적 노력을 시도하고 있다. 특히 안정적인 수위 및 유량확보와 홍수방지를 위한 보(weir)가 4대강 유역에 16개 설치되고 있다. 이러한 보 구간에는 고정보와 가동보가 복합적으로 설치되고 있으며 가동보는 그 형상과 운영방식에 따라 다양한 설계방안이 적용되었다. '4대강 살리기 사업' 중 낙동강 23공구의 강정보 공사 구간에는 원호형태의 측면 형상을 갖는 라이징 섹터게이트(Rising sector gate)가 적용되었다. 라이징 섹터게이트는 구조물의 높이가 낮고 수문의 개폐장치가 수문피어 구조물 내에 설치되어 경관이 우수하며, 구조가 간단하여 비체와 수류의 안정성이 뛰어나기 때문에 4개의 공사구간에 적용되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 강정보의 가동보 구간 2문 중 1문을 1/100 축척으로 제작하여 가변경사 개수로에 설치하고, 홍수 빈도별 상류 유량 조건과 하류단 수위조건으로 케이스를 정하여 실험을 수행하였다. 본 실험에서 사용한 개수로 장치는 너비 0.6 m, 높이 0.8 m, 그리고 길이 15.0 m(측정가능 구간, 헤드탱크와 테일게이트 부제외)의 개수로 실험장치이다. 측부는 모두 강화유리로 되어 육안관찰 및 계측 시 용이하게 제작되었으며, 순환식 유량 공급장치를 구축하여 수로의 하부에 설치된 유량탱크로부터 계속적으로 순환하도록 설계되었다. 또한 수로 하단으로부터 상단방향으로 약 33 m 지점에 전동 유압식 Jack screw 2기가 설치되어 경사도를 조절할 수 있도록 제작되었다. 유량조절용 판넬의 제어기판에는 디지털 경사계가 설치되어 있기 때문에 보다 정확한 경사도의 조절이 가능하다. 보 모형의 총연장은 53 cm이며 폭은 45 cm이다. 섹터게이트의 게이트부분은 직경 15 cm로 설계하였다. 문주부분을 포함한 모든 모형은 아크릴로 제작하며 레이저의 주사를 방해하지 않으며 투과율을 최대로 할 수 있도록 고강도의 아크릴을 가장 얇게 하여 중공형태를 채택하였다. 실험조건은 우선 보의 운영방안에 따라 게이트의 4가지 개방도를 설정하였고, 특히 평수위조건에서는 보의 상류부에 퇴적된 퇴적물의 세척을 위한 flushing 운영개방도 포함되어 있다. 홍수시에 대한 유량조건은 2년 빈도에 해당하는 유량을 수문의 비율과 상사법칙에 따라 설정하였으며 하류단 수위조건도 동일한 조건에 대한 값을 채택하여 적용하였다. 유동장의 해석을 위해서는 비접촉식 계측방법인 PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) 시스템을 채택하여 2차원(x-z 방향) laser sheet를 생성하고 주입된 particle에서 반사된 변위(displacement) 정보를 상호상관(cross-correlation)기법으로 유동장을 계산하였다. 또한 수리모형과 동일한 지형격자를 구축하여 3차원 CFD 프로그램인 FLOW-3D로 계산하여 결과를 비교하였다. 특히 flushing 운영방안에 대한 게이트부의 개방도를 세가지(30, 45, $60^{\circ}$)로 구분하여 모의하였고, 적절한 개방도를 제안하고자 하였다. 실험결과는 우선 4가지 운영방안에 대한 가동보 주변에서의 유속장을 파악하였고, 최대유속의 발생위치의 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 이에 따른 보의 바닥에서 최대유속이 발생할 경우, 하상보호공 위치와 거리 등에 대해서 분석하였다. 이를 통해 가동보 운영에 따른 다양한 유속구조를 파악할 수 있게 되며 구조적 안정성 확보를 위한 검증자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 향후, 가동보 운영방안 중 수세효과(flushing effect)에 대한 효과분석을 위해 게이트부 상류구간에 적절한 입경과 비중의 퇴적물질을 설치하는 연구와 상류부에서의 유입유사농도 및 시간변화에 따른 퇴적에 관한 연구를 수행할 계획이다.
