  • In this paper vision based system for detection of golf ball position and spin velocity in screen golf game is introduced. Firstly, an algorithm is presented for finding ball position and its initial linear velocity on the golf court, and secondly, golf ball spin is calculated. These parameters are vital for simulator in order to simulate a real golf environment. Finally, these algorithm have been implemented with acceptable result.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide implications for virtual golf safety management in Korea through the literature review of current safety issues of virtual golf industry. Research design, data, and methodology: This study employed a qualitative approach to review prior studies and related documents presenting current safety perspectives of virtual sports facility management. First, the study reviewed the experiences of virtual golf players and safety criteria suggested from previous literatures. Second, two experts in sport facility management reviewed the manuscript including implications and provided their opinions including major implications and insights for virtual sport industry. Views of experts were added to the final manuscript. Results: This study found that installation standards and safety and hygiene standards by industry are enacted for the safety management of sports facilities, however, there is a need for standards to be adjusted because the contents are general, abstract, and lack detail, thus causing difficultly to secure effectiveness. Conclusions: For virtual golf courses, it is necessary to develop a safety inspection checklist that suits the characteristics of indoor virtual golf. In this line, safety criteria need to be developed with the consideration of characteristics of screen golf to establish an efficient safety management system and create a safe use environment.

  • This study aims to estimate the economic effects of the simulation golf industry. Two steps are taken. Step 1 is to calculate the direct effect which includes input required to install the facility and consumer's fee to pay for the simulation golf, and the indirect effect which includes the introduction of the field golf course derived from simulation golf. Step 2 is to calculate the production, value added and employment inducement effect. As a result of this calculation, total production inducement effect is 3.6 trillion won, value-added inducement effect is calculated at about 1.66 trillion won, while employment inducement effect is 34.6 thousand people in 2011. This study is expected to contribute to providing a basis for the policy to support the simulation industry and for estimation of the economic effect in the different simulation industry such as the simulation baseball.

  • The screen sports game is a motion-based game developed by combining the PC game and the sensor so that the user can directly participate in the game. Following screen golf, which was very popular in the 2000s, screen baseball has been on the rise since 2016. Most of the games released today employ the interface of traditional PC games. However, there is a need for a method that allows the user to manipulate the screen baseball in a more intuitive manner. In this study, we utilize a Kiosk independent of the game, which enables users to intervene naturally without disturbing the flow of the game. Such a Kiosk-based interface results in increased immersion in the game.

  • Recently, while 3D sports game increases, the research that it recognizes the operation of the real user actively progresses. Most of all, the research about the golf is active. In this paper, the camera acquiring in a high-speed multi-exposure image measures the flight data of the golf ball through the image processing. While photographing, the high-speed camera, using this system, exposes an image at regular intervals. And line scan camera checks whether the golf ball passed or not. After the location information of the calculated golf ball calculates a speed and a direction by using the physical formula, it applies the golf simulation. After, this system is possible the measurement of the physical element of the spherical object.

  • Screen-based games often go to many places to install. In this case, there may be a change in the sensor or a difficulty in installation due to a difference in space configuration. Also, it is meaningful to experience the same thing as a real game, but there are cases where it is necessary to control the degree of difficulty to make it feel more fun. In this paper In the process of developing a screen archery game, which is a sensible game similar to screen golf, we will introduce a technique that facilitates installation according to changes in space. And we will explain how to control game difficulty automatically according to user's skill. And we will show you the results of the experiment.

  • Outdoor sports activities have been restricted by serious air pollution, such as fine dust and yellow dust, and abnormal meteorological change, such as heatwave and heavy snow. These environmental problems have rapidly increased the demand for indoor sports activities. Virtual sports, such as virtual golf, virtual baseball, virtual soccer, etc., allow playing various sports games without going outdoors. Indoor sports industries and markets have seen rapid growth since the advent of virtual sports. Most virtual sports platforms use screen-based virtual reality techniques, which are why they are called screen sports. However, these platforms cannot support various sports games, especially virtual match games, such as squash, boxing, and so on, because existing screen-based virtual reality sports techniques use real balls and players. This article presents screen-based haptic-augmented reality technologies for a new virtual sports platform. The new platform does not use real balls and players to solve the limitations of previous platforms. Here, various technologies, including human motion tracking, human action recognition, haptic feedback, screen-based augmented-reality systems, and augmented-reality sports content, are unified for the new virtual sports platform. From these haptic-augmented reality technologies, the proposed platform supports sports games, including indoor virtual matches, that existing virtual sports platforms cannot support.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the TPI Level 1 test and the performance of KPGA professional golf players. Methods : In 2019, 30 KPGA golf players attempted in the TPI Level 1 test. Their performance was then compared with the test based on the players' aggregated official records on the KPGA website, The most meaningful prize money ranking, average driving distance, fairway landing rate, and average number of putts were considered to evaluate their performance. Additionally, to obtain the average value of the players' accumulated records, the period from the first game in March 2019 to the end of October was considered. Results : The criterion for the difference between the upper group and the lower group was set based on the 9 points of the TPI Level 1 test, which showed the most significant difference. The prize money ranking stood at 63.00±51.77 in the upper group and 113.92±68.79 in the lower group in the TPI Level 1 test, the difference was significantly higher (p<.05) for the upper group (p<.05). The average driving distance was 286.15±10.06 yds for the upper group and 277.39±8.49 yds for the lower group, group, with the driving distance significantly higher in the upper group (p<.05). Further, the average number of putts for the upper group was 1.81±.02 and 1.85±.04 for the lower group, indicating a significant difference. Conclusion : A higher TPI Level 1 test score is likely to have a positive effect on performance.. As a result of the statistical values of this study, it was found that players must possess at least 9 out of 17 types of physical abilities Therefore, it can be considered that training and intervention to acquire these physical abilities are essential.

  • This paper proposes an automatic indexing algorithm of golf video using audio information. In the proposed algorithm, the input audio stream is demultiplexed into the stream of video and audio. By means of Adaboost-cascade classifier, the continuous audio stream is classified into announcer's speech segment recorded in studio, music segment accompanied with players' names on TV screen, reaction segment of audience according to the play, reporter's speech segment with field background, filed noise segment like wind or waves. And golf swing sound including drive shot, iron shot, and putting shot is detected by the method of impulse onset detection and modulation spectrum verification. The detected swing and applause are used effectively to index action or highlight unit. Compared with video based semantic analysis, main advantage of the proposed system is its small computation requirement so that it facilitates to apply the technology to embedded consumer electronic devices for fast browsing.
