A Study on the Tribological Characteristics of a Frying Pan Coated with PTFE and Nano-Diamond (나노다이아몬드가 첨가된 프라이팬 불소수지코팅의 Tribological 특성 연구)

  • PTFE has good mechanical and chemical stability at a wide range of temperatures and demonstrates a low friction coefficient value. PTFE is being used for self-lubricating parts in industry. But it shows a high wear rate. Thus, PTFE and nano-diamond powder were mixed into a composite and the wear properties of a PTFE coating layer on Al6061 was investigated. A ball-on-disk type of wear tester was used under a dry condition and different temperatures of oil. After the wear test, the wear track wasexamined by optical microscope. The PTFE-diamond showed the lowest friction coefficient (0.02) of all the lubricants in the experiments. The friction coefficient was shown to be directly related to the diamond powder in the PTFE coating. Adhesion estimations were performed by a scratch test, which is mainly used for coatings. The critical load between the coating and substrate was defined through analyses of the friction load, normal load curve, and acoustic emissions, along with optical microscope observations. The scratch test results showed that an import item (SWISS) gave the highest critical load values.

Plating of Cu layer with the aid of organic film on Si-wafer (유기박막을 이용한 Si기판상의 구리피복층 형성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to improve the adhesion properties of copper, MPS(3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane) organic film were employed. The plasma pretreatment in pure He or $He/O_{2}$ mixed gas environment greatly increased adhesion force. Adhesion force was measured by scratch test with nano indenter. Microstructures and surface roughness were observed with scanning electron microscope(SEM). The characteristics of MPS layer for pretreatment were studied with flourier transform infrared spectroscope(FT-IR) and contact angle tester. The heighest adhesion was achieved in the specimen pretreated with mixed plasma and NPS coating, which was 56mN. Other specimen showed lower value by $20{\%}$ to $30{\%}$. The roughness of substrate was not affected by the bonding strength of copper plating.

The Low Temperature Deposition of CrN Films by the AIP Method (아크 이온플레이팅법에 의한 저온 CrN 합성)

  • CrN coatings were deposited by cathodic arc ion plating method on the SKD11 steel substrates. Atmosphere temperature of $350^{\circ}C$, arc current of 90 A, nitrogen partial pressure of 1.0-5.3 Pa, and negative bias voltage of 30-135 V were selected. The characteristics of microstructure were investigated with XRD. Hardness, adhesion and friction coefficient measured by microhardness tester, scratch tester, and ball on disk tribometer. Microstructures depended on nitrogen partial pressure and bias voltage. The preferred orientation of the films was changed from (200) to (111) with decreasing pressure and increasing bias voltage. Adhesion properties related with microstructure, but microstructure changes slightly influenced on hardness and friction properties. The critical load.($Lc_1$) and hardness of CrN films deposited at 5.3 Pa, -30 V condition were 55 N(HF1), $2157{\pm}47\;Hk_{0.025}$. The friction coefficient were about 0.5 under dry condition.

스퍼터링으로 제조된 비정질 카본박막의 특성

  • 비정질 카본 박막은 다이아몬드와 유사한 높은 경도, 내마모성, 윤활성, 전기절연성, 화학적 안정성, 그리고 광학적 특성을 가진 재료로서 플라즈마 CVD를 이용한 합성방법으로 제조된 박막이 주로 연구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 마그네트론 스퍼터링을 이용하여 다양한 조건의 카본 박막을 제조하였다. 카본 박막의 제조는 이온빔이 장착된 고진공 증착 장치를 이용하였고 시편의 청정시 사용된 이온빔의 조건은 빔 전압이 500V, 빔 전류는 0.1mA/cm2로 기판 청정을 거친 후 DC 마그네트론 스퍼터링을 이용하여 흑연을 증발시켜 박막을 제조하였다. 기판과 타겟의 거리는 13cm로 고정시킨 후 타겟 전류는 1A로 유지하면서 30분간 증착하였다. 기판은 Si-wafer와 glass를 주로 사용하였으며 기판 인가전압, 아세틸렌 유량, 기판 온도등을 변화시켜가면서 각각 카본 박막을 제조하였다. 비정질 카본박막의 막은 평균 두께는 0.4~1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$이며 SEM을 이용하여 단면의 성장구조를 관찰하였다. 라만 분광분석과 FTIR 분광분석을 통하여 비정질 카본 박막의 결합특성을 조사하였고 scratch tester를 이용하여 박막의 밀찰력을 관찰하였다. 제조된 박막의 두께는 아세틸렌 가스 이용시 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이상의 박막의 제조가 가능하였으며 카본 박막의 라만 분광특성은 고체 탄소 물질의 S와 G-peak으로 구성되어 있으며 기판 인가전압, 아세틸렌 가스 유량 변화에 따른 peak의 위치 이동 및 FWHM의 변화를 관찰하였다. RFIR 결과는 아세틸렌 가스의 유량이 증가에 따라 C-H 결합 분포가 증가며 기판 인가 전압이 증가할수록 C-H 결합분포가 감소하는 경향이 나타냈다. 이는 이온 충돌 효과에 따라 결합력이 약한 C-H 결합이 우선적으로 파괴되는 현상으로 생각되어 진다. Scartch tester 측정 결과 박막의 밀착력은 실험조건에 따른 경샹성은 보이고 있지 않으나 10N 정도이며 60N 이상의 강한 밀착력을 가진 박막도 제조되었다.

Corrosion Behaviors of ZrN Coated on Dental Co-Cr Alloys (ZrN 코팅된 치과 주조용 Co-Cr 합금의 부식거동)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate to effect of the ZrN coated on corrosion resistance and physical property of dental Co-Cr alloys using various instruments. Methods: The specimens were used, respectively, for experiment, Arc Ion plating was carried out for dental casting alloys using ZrN coated materials with nitrogen gas. ZrN coated surface of each specimen was observed with field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), vickers hardness tester, and electrochemical tester. Results: The current density of ZrN coated specimen was smaller than that of non-coated specimen in 0.9% NaCl solution. Pit nucleated at scratch of specimen. The pitting corrosion resistant |$E_{max}-E_{rep}$| increased in order of ZrN coated (110 mV), and non-coated wire (100 mV). Conclusion: The corrosion potential of the ZrN coated specimen was comparatively high. the surface of ZrN coated specimen was more smooth than that of other kinds of non-coated specimen. ZrN coated surface showed higher hardness than that of non-coated surface.

Characteristic properties of TiN thin films prepared by DC magnetron sputtering method for hard coatings (Hard coating 응용을 위한 DC 마그네트론 스퍼터링 방법을 이용하여 증착한 TiN 박막의 특성에 대한 연구)

  • Titanium nitride (TiN) thin films are widely used for hard coatings due to their superior hardness. In this paper, we wanted see how the films properties are changed according to DC power. TiN thin films were deposited by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering method using TiN compound target on silicon substrates. The films structural properties are examined by X-ray Diffractions (XRD) and tribological properties are measured by nano-indentation, nano-scratch tester, nano-stress tester. Especially in DC power of 150 W, the maximum hardness and the minimum residual stress of TiN film exhibited about 25 GPa and 1 GPa, respectively. And also, the critical load of TiN film prepared by magnetron sputtering method were measured over 30 N.

  • Statement of problem: Implant screw loosening has been remained problem in restorative practices. Surface treatment of screw plays a role of preventing screw from loosening in implant screw mechanism. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate surface characteristics of TiN and ZrN film ion plated screw with titanium and gold alloy screw and to evaluate wear resistance, surface roughness, and film adhesion on screw surface using various instruments. Material and methods : GoldTite screws and titanium screws provided by 3i (Implant Innovation, USA) and TorqTite screws or titanium screws by Steri-Oss (Nobel Biocare, USA) and gold screws and titanium screws by AVANA (Osstem Implant, korea) were selected. Ion plating which is much superior to other surface modification techniques was carried out for gold screws and titanium screws using Ti and Zr coating materials with nitrogen gas. Ion nitrided surface of each abutment screw was observed with field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM, micro-diamond scratch tester, vickers hardness tester, and surface roughness tester. Results : 1) The surface of gold screw and GoldTite is more smooth than ones of other kinds of non coated screw. 2) The ZrN and TiN coated surface is the more smooth than ones of other kinds of screw. 3) The hardness of TiN and ZrN coated surface showed higher than that of non coated surface. 4) The TiN coated titanium screw and ZrN coated gold screw have a good wear resistance and adhesion on the surface. 5) The surface of ZrN coated screw showed low surface roughness compared with the surface of TiN coated screw. Conclusion : It is considered that the TiN and ZrN coated screw which would prevent a screw from loosening can be applicable to implant system and confirmed that TiN and ZrN film act as lubricant on surface of screw due to decrease of friction for recycled tightening and loosening.

Estimation of Surface Profile Using Reflected Laser Beam Pattern (레이저 빔 반사 패턴을 이용한 표면 프로파일 추정)

  • An optical method for surface roughness estimation based on statistical analysis of the light intensity of a scattered laser beam pattern. The method is very simple but has a disadvantage that no more information than the averaged roughness is estimated. In this study a new try was conducted to derive more advanced surface information from the details of the light intensity distribution. Some periodic ripples among the light intensity distribution being assumed to relate with scratch left on the machined surface, a corresponding surface profile is estimated from the ripples using FFT and IFFT algorithm. IFFT technique is used to extract some dominant signal components among the intensity distribution. Compared to the measured profiles by a stylus type surf-tester, the profiles obtained through the proposed method are probably acceptable in a sense of the profile shape. Calibration of the amplitude needs more works in the future.

A Study on the Wear Resistance Behaviors of TiN Films on Tool Steels by Cathode Arc Ion Plating Method (음극아크 이온 플레이팅법에 의한 공구강상의 TiN 피막의 내마모 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Titanium nitride films have been prepared on various substrates (silicon wafer, HSS) by cathode arc ion plating process to measure microhardness, adhesion and wear-resistant behaviors by changing the substrate bias voltages (0∼-300V), thickness and roughness. Microhardnesses were measured by micro vickers hardness tester, the adhesion strengths were evaluated by acoustic signals through the scratch test with incremental applied load. As the substrate bias voltages were increased, the {111} orientation was predominant, the microhardnesses and adhesion strengths of tool steel were observed to be stronger than those of without subatrate bias voltage. Adhesion strengths of the substrate bias were 4-7 times higher than those of without the substrate bias, confirmed by SEM with EDX. Wear resistances were used pin-on-disk tribotester and TiN costing reduced the abrasive wear. As the substrate bias was increased, the weight loss and the friction coefficient was decreased.

Tribolgical Characteristics of DLC Film using Substrates with Varying Hardness

  • DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) films have predominant tribological properties like a high hardness, low friction and high chemical resistance; therefore, DLC films are applied in a wide range of industrial fields. This paper evaluated the characteristics of DLC films deposited on bearing steel with different hardness by RF-PECVD (Radio Frequency - Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) method. Si-interlayer was deposited on bearing steel to improve adhesion strength by RF-Sputtering method. The DLC film structures were analyzed with Raman spectra and Gaussian function. Adhesion strength of DLC films was measured with a scratch tester. Friction and wear test were carried out with a ball-on -disc type to investigate the tribological characteristics. Experimental results showed that DLC films deposited on bearing steel under same deposition condition have typical structure DLC films regardless of hardness of bearing steel. Adhesion strength of DLC film is increased with a hardness of bearing steel. Friction coefficient of DLC film showed lower at the high hardness of bearing steel.
