  • Globular clusters (GCs) are known to be one of the oldest objects in the Milky Way. Therefore the dynamical informations of GCs are very important to understand the formation and evolution of our Galaxy. Motion of GCs in the halo of Galaxy can be traced by radial velocities of individual stars and proper motions of GCs. Measuring the radial velocities of stars in GCs has been challenging for decades because the brightness of stars (even for the brightest stars) in GCs are too faint (V>14) to measure the radial velocities. The available large telescopes (D>4m) enable us to observe the spectra of stars in the red giant branch of GCs, and it is now more plausible to measure the radial velocities of stars in GCs. On the contrary it is still very difficult to measure the sky-projected two-dimensional motion of GCs in Galaxy even with the large telescopes because the distance to GCs is quite large (~10kpc) compared to the spatial resolution of present-day large ground-based telescopes. Instruments on-board Hubble Space Telescope are ideal to study the proper motion of GCs thanks to their extremely high spatial resolution (~0.05arcsec). We report a study of proper motion of NGC 104, one of the most metal-rich Milky Way GCs, based-on archival images of NGC 104 observed using HST/ACS. Using the stars in Small Magellanic Cloud as reference coordinate, we are able to measure the proper motions of individual stars in NGC 104 with a high precision. We discuss the internal dynamics of stars in NGC 104 by comparing proper motion results based-on shorter (<1yr) and longer (~7yrs) time durations.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the pieces of 100 fabrics excavated from unknown woman's tomb Incheon, by analyzing woven methods, names of the fabrics, the kinds and the shapes of the patterns. The characteristics to assume the period of the fabrics are as follows. The geumsundan which was woven peacock insignia at chest and back area was excavated for the first time from the tomb of Joseon. Peacock insignia woven with satin weave using supplementary golden wefts, wrapped gold thread. These kind of fabrics were usually imported in the $15^{th}$ century, according to the old documents, 'Nogeoldae' 'Joseonwangjosilrok' written at the end of Goryeo or early in Joseon. Thus, these relics are from about $15^{th}$ century. From this tomb, the mixture fabric of cotton and ramie are excavated. According to another excavated cases, the mixture fabric of cotton and ramie appears from the period before the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, and after the invasion, there are usually mixture fabric of cotton and silk. This also tells that these fabrics show the characteristics of those from the early period of Joseon Dynasty. The rounded patterns of Jangot is only shown from the fabrics of late Goryeo Dynasty, and the cloud pattern of an upper garment with a squared neckline is shown from the early Joseon Dynasty. So, the patterns from these excavated costumes are ranged from the late Goryeo Dynasty to the early Joseon Dynasty. To assume the period through the overall study above, these relics show the characteristics of the $15^{th}$ century fabric.

  • For statistical modeling, the model parameters are usually estimated by maximizing a probability measure, such as the likelihood or the posterior. In contrast, a variational Bayesian method treats the parameters of a model as probability distributions and computes optimal distributions for them rather than values. It has been shown that this approach effectively avoids the overfitting problem, which is common with other parameter optimization methods. This paper applies a variational Bayesian technique to surface fitting for height field data. Then, we propose point cloud denoising based on the basic surface fitting technique. Validation experiments and further tests with scan data verify the robustness of the proposed method.

  • To estimate the radiative heat loss from greenhouses, a new equation for calculating the sky temperature is presented. The sky temperature in the Daegu region was measured using a pyrgeometer and calculated using different equations according to the cloudiness. The calculated and measured results were then compared to identify the best equation for calculating the sky temperature. The difference value between the air and sky temperature was dissimilar and increased as the cloud amount decreased. On clear days the difference value was 10~20 times greater than that on cloudy and rainy days. When analyzing the correlationship between the calculated and measured sky temperatures on clear days, Bliss's and Clark & Allen's equations were found to be superior to the other equations. However, on cloudy days, the best correlationship between the calculated and measured sky temperatures was exhibited by Fuentes's equation. Therefore, a new equation is proposed for calculating the sky temperature on a cloudy day.

  • Four dimensional data assimilation (FDDA) technique was considered for 3 dimensional wind field in coastal area and a set of 3 numerical experiments including control experiments has been tested for the case of the synoptic weather pattern of the weak northerly geostrophic wind with the cloud amount of less than 5/10 in autumn. A three dimensional land and sea breeze model with the sea surface temperature (SST) of 290K was performed without nudging the observed wind field and surface temperature of AWS (Automatic Weather System) for the control experiment. The results of the control experiment showed that the horizontal temperature gradient across the coastline was weakly simulated so that the strength of the sea breeze in the model was much weaker than that of observed one. The experiment with only observed horizontal wind field showed that both the pattern of local change of wind direction and the times of starting and ending of the land-sea breeze were fairly well simulated. However, the horizontal wind speed and vertical motion in the convergence zone were weakly simulated. The experiment with nudgings of both the surface temperature and wind speed showed that both the pattern of local change of wind direction and the times of starting and ending of the land-sea breeze were fairly well simulated even though the ending time of the sea breeze was delayed due to oversimulated temperature gradient along the shoreline.

  • The objective of this study is to clarify the effect of thermal radiation environments on human thermal comfort, depending on different canyon types and surface materials on the human thermal comfort in a housing complex in Pohang city, Korea. For this purpose, the operative temperature and new effective temperature were calculated based on the modified mean radiant temperature of canyon models variated by the existence of direct radiation existence, surface materials, and the width and length of the street spaces in a housing complex. These indices for the canyon have been calculated from the meteorological data of Pohang city, which include air temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, global solar radiation and cloud. And the monthly averages of these climate factors measured at noon have been used. The results are as follows: (1) It is revealed that the short-wave radiosity reached the human body is affected by direct solar radiation and surface materials, and the long-wave radiosity by canyon types. (2) The existence of direct solar radiation, the kinds of surface materials and canyon types affect operative temperature($OT_n$) and new effective temperature($ET^*{_n}$). (3) The analysis of the human heat balance in the canyon indicates that the influence of radiation on human body is marc likely to be affected by the existence of direct solar radiation on human model.

  • In past few years, high-throughput sequencing, big-data generation, cloud computing, and computational biology are revolutionary. RNA sequencing is emerging as an attractive alternative to DNA microarrays. And the methods for constructing Gene Regulatory Network (GRN) from RNA-Seq are extremely lacking and urgently required. Because GRN has obtained substantial observation from genomics and bioinformatics, an elementary requirement of the GRN has been to maximize distinguishable genes. Despite of RNA sequencing techniques to generate a big amount of data, there are few computational methods to exploit the huge amount of the big data. Therefore, we have suggested a novel gene selection algorithm combining Support Vector Machines and Intensity-dependent normalization, which uses log differential expression ratio in RNAseq. It is an extended variation of support vector machine recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE) algorithm. This algorithm accomplishes minimum relevancy with subsets of Big-Data, such as NCBI-GEO. The proposed algorithm was compared to the existing one which uses gene expression profiling DNA microarrays. It finds that the proposed algorithm have provided as convenient and quick method than previous because it uses all functions in R package and have more improvement with regard to the classification accuracy based on gene ontology and time consuming in terms of Big-Data. The comparison was performed based on the number of genes selected in RNAseq Big-Data.

  • Recently, 3D-reconstruction for geographic information and study of geospatial information is progressing in various fields through national policy such as R&D business and pilot project. LiDAR system has a advantage of acquisition the 3D information data easily and densely so that is used in many different fields. Considering to characterist of the point data formed with 3D, it need a high specification CPU because it requires a number of processing operation for 2D form expressed by monitor. In contrast, 2D grid structure, like DEM, has a advantage on costs because of simple structure and processing speed. Therefore, purpose of this study is to solve the problem of requirement of more storage space, when LiDAR data stored in forms of 3D is used for 3D-geographic and 3D-buliding representation. Additionally, This study reconstitutes 2D-gird data to supply the representation data of 3D-geographic and presents the storage method which is available for detailed representation applying tree-structure and reduces the storage space.

  • This is a proposal to probe local part of the interplanetary dust (IPD) cloud complex and retrieve mean volume emissivity of the local IPDs at mid-infrared wavelengths. This will be done by monitoring, with Infrared Camera (IRC) aboard the ASTRO-F, the annual modulation of the zodiacal emission. In pointing mode of the ASTRO-F mission the spacecraft can make attitude maneuvering over approximately ${\pm}1^{\circ}$ range centered at solar elongation $90^{\circ}$ in the ecliptic plane. The attitude maneuvering combined with high sensitivity of the IRC will provide us with a unique opportunity observationally to take derivatives of the zodiacal emission brightness with respect to the solar elongation. From the resulting differential of the brightness over the ${\pm}1^{\circ}$ range, one can directly determine the mean volume emissivity of the local IPDs with a sufficient accuracy to de-modulate the annual emissivity variations due to the Earth's elliptical motion and the dis-alignment of the maximum IPD density plane with respect to the ecliptic. The non-zero eccentricity ($e_{\oplus}$= 0.0167) of the Earth's orbit combined with the sensitive temperature dependence of the Planck function would bring modulations of amplitude at least $3.34\%$ to the zodiacal emission brightness at mid-infrared wavelengths, with which one may determine the IPD temperature T(r) and mean number density n(r) as functions of heliocentric distance r. This will in turn fix the power-law exponent $\delta$ in the relation $T(r) = T_o(r/r_o)^{-\delta}$ for the dust temperature and v in $n(r) = n_o(r/r_o)^-v$ for the density. We discuss how one may de-couple the notorious degeneracy of cross-section, density, reference temperature $T_o$ and exponent $\delta$.

  • In order to understand chemical characteristics and dewfall formation in western Busan area, we analysed monthly distribution of dewfall, and investigated the correlation between dewfall formation amount and meteorological factors. This study used the modified teflon plate $(1m{\times}1m)$ at Silla university in Busan from August 2002 to April 2003. In order to estimate qualitatively water soluble components, IC, ICP and UV methods for water soluble ions are also used respectively. Dewfall amount of sampling periods (47 day) collected 3.8 mm. Meteorological conditions for the formation of dewfall above $50\;g/m^{2}$ showed that temperature diurnal $range(^{\circ}C)\;was\;5.6^{\circ}C$ above, cloud amounts (1/10) at dawn of the sampling day was 7/10 below, mean wind speed at dawn (0~6hr) of the sampling day was 4.4 m/sec below, and mixing ratio at 6hr of the sampling day was 3.2 g/kg above. Distribution of water soluble ions in dewfall founded the highest concentration (206.1\;{\mu}eq/{\ell}\;for\;SO_{4}^{2-},\;42.4\;{\mu}eq/{\ell}\;for\;NH_{4}^{+},\;249.2\;{\mu}eq/{\ell}\;for\;Ca^{2+},\;and\;42.0\;{\mu}eq/{\ell}\;for\;Mg^{2+})$ during the March, the lowest concentration $(73.0\;{\mu}eq/{\ell}\;for\;SO_{4}^{2-},\;4.6\;{\mu}eq/{\ell}\;for\;NH_{4}^+\;and\;72.7\;{\mu}eq/{\ell}\;for\;Ca^{2+})$ during the August. Monthly equivalent ratio of $[SO_{4}^{2-}]/[NO_{3}^-]$ showed the highest value (4.99) during the October, the lowest value (1.84) during the August, and the mean value was 3.45.
