Primary endobronchial schwannomas are extremely rare tumors that originate from Schwann cells. We report a case of primary endobronchial schwannoma. A 44-year-old woman, without respiratory symptoms, was presented with a nodule in the left main bronchus on her chest computed tomography scan. The nodule was removed by a rigid bronchoscopy with argon plasma coagulation. Biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of schwannoma. There was no recurrence during her 4-month follow-up.

Schwannoma is a slow-growing benign tumor of neurogenic origin. The lesion is derived from the Schwann cells surrounding neural tissue. It can grow in almost all regions of the body. Schwannoma of the external auditory canal is a rare finding. Recently, we experienced schwannoma of the external auditory canal of a 29-year-old female who had surgical removal completely and verified histopathologically as schwannoma.

In mammals. axotomy of peripheral nerve leads to a complex. These events include swelling of cell body, disappearance of Nissl substance. Proximal and distal axon undergoes a variable deriable degree of traumatic degeneration and wallerian degeneration, respectively. Nerve injury may result in cell death or regeneration. Molecular changes include proliferation of Schwann cells, upregulation of neurotropism, neural cell adhesion molecules and cytokine. Also growth cone plays an essential role in axon guidance through interaction of cytoskeleton. We review cellular and molecular events after nerve injury and describe nerve regeneration and associated proteins.

Schwannoma is a benign nerve sheath tumor that is composed entirely of well differentiated Schwann cells. They are frequently located in the soft tissue of head and neck region, but only a 1% of them are located in the oral cavity. Schwannoma arising in the soft palate is extremely rare. We present a case of a soft palate schwannoma and report this case with a literature review.

Neurilemoma (Schwannoma) is a solitary encapsulated benigh tumor and apparently derived from Schwann cells of the nerve sheath. This is a case of 17-year-old Korean female with the neurilemoma of the tongue. Chief complaint of the patient was painless palpable mass on left tongue body. Diagnosis was established by histologic examination after simple surgical excision of tumor mass. A brief review of related literatures was made.

Neurilemmoma is a benign, well-encapsulated neurogenic tumor that arises in cranial, peripheral, or autonomic nerves that have nerve sheaths containing schwann cells. From 16 to 45% of all neurilemmoma cases occur in the head and neck region and only about 4% of those cases are found in the nose and paranasal sinuses, but very rarely found in the nasal septum. Recently, we experienced a case of isolated neurilemmoma which arose from the nasal septum of a 30-year-old female patient who complained of nasal obstruction and postnasal drip. The mass was broadly based on the right anterior portion of the nasal septum and confined to the nasal cavity, displacing the lateral wall of the nasal cavity and middle turbinate, laterally and posteriorly, respectively. The tumor mass was completely excised through transnasal endoscopic surgery under general anesthesia. The final pathological diagnosis viewed under a microscope after H&E and anti S-100 protein stain was a benign neurilemmoma in which Antoni A type and B type both existed. This report presents a case of neurilemmoma which arose from the nasal septum with reviews of the clinicopathologic features.

Neurilemmomas are well-encapsulated, benign, slow-growing tumors originating from Schwann cells of the nerve sheath surrounding cranial, peripheral, or autonomic nerves. Intraoral neurilemmomas are relatively rare and have a wide variety of morphologic and radiologic features. This makes differential diagnosis difficult, and only histopathological features can lead to a definitive neurilemmoma diagnosis. In this report, we present the case of a 30-year-old woman whose chief complaint was a solitary, nodular mass on the right floor of the mouth. After computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, we performed an incisional biopsy that showed the typical characteristics of a neurilemmoma. The mass was removed completely through an intraoral surgical approach. Despite losing a portion of the lingual nerve, the patient did not complain of any specific discomfort. Wound healing was uneventful and there were no signs or symptoms of recurrence.

Schwannoma or neurilemmoma is a benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor that arises from Schwann cells. Approximately 25-45% of all schwannomas occur in the head and neck regions, and the intraoral presentation of these is only 1%. We report a rare case of a patient presenting tongue base schwannoma with characteristic imaging features on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

Tumors of trachea are uncommon and benign tumors are rare in adults. Tracheal tumors are overlooked as a cause of pulmonary symptoms. Neurilemmoma is originated from Schwann cells of nerve sheath, which are characterized by benign, solitary, and encapsulated mass. Although it may occur most frequently in the head and neck region, the neurilemmoma of trachea is extremely rare. We report a case in a 55-year-old man who presented with mild exertional dyspnea and foreign body sensation. The round encapsulated mass was demonstrated in posterior wall of trachea and removed by tracheofissure.

As benign tumor originating in Schwann cells of nerve sheath, Schwannoma can rise in any site involving cranial nerve, sympathetic nerves, peripheral nerves excepting optic nerves and olfactory nerves. Schwannoma rarely occurs in trachea, and although can appear in any part, most often seen in the lower third of the trachea. Here, we reported a case of intra-tracheal schwannoma misdiagnosed and treated as bronchial asthma, later identified and successfully excised through an external approach.
