Educational Program Evaluation System in a Medical School (일개 의과대학 교육프로그램 평가체제에 대한 연구)

  • A systematic educational program evaluation system for continuous quality improvement in undergraduate medical education is essential. Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) are two distinct but complementary processes referred to in an evaluation system that emphasizes formative purpose. Monitoring involves regular data collection for tracking process and results, while evaluation requires periodic judgment for improvement. We have recently completed implementing an educational evaluation using the M&E concept in a medical school. The evaluation system consists of two loops, one at the lesson/course level and the other at the phase/graduation level. We conducted evaluation activities in four stages: planning, monitoring, evaluation, and improvement. In the planning phase, we clarified the purpose of evaluation, formulated a plan to engage stakeholders, determined evaluation criteria and indicators, and developed an evaluation plan. Next, during the monitoring phase, we developed evaluation instruments and methods and then collected data. In the evaluation phase, we analyzed results and evaluated the criteria of the two loops. Finally, we reviewed the evaluation results with stakeholders to make improvements. We have recognized several problems including excessive burden, lack of expertise, insufficient consideration of stakeholders' evaluation questions, and inefficient data collection. We need to share the value of evaluation and build a system gradually.

Effect of Original Kyungokgo & Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa on Antioxidant, Immunity Improvement and Sensory Evaluation (경옥고의 원방과 가미방 익수영진고가(加)꽃송이버섯이 항산화, 면역력 활성 및 기호도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study was conducted with objectives of comparatively investigating effects of original Kyungokgo and Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa which is gamibang of Kyungokgo on antioxidant improvement, immunity improvement, and sensory evaluation.Methods : Total phenol and DPPH scavenging activity were measured to determine antioxidant improvement of original Kyungokgo and Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa. While, blood and serum study were conducted and effect on the cytokines were observed from the immunosuppressed rat induced by methotrexate (MTX). Control group was administered with a drinking water, Kyungokgo group was administered with a original Kyungokgo 200 mg/kg, and Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa group was administered with a Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa 200 mg/kg for 20 days. Further, intensity and preference evaluation were performed as sensory evaluation.Results : It was observed that Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa significantly increased total phenol and DPPH scavenging activity, proving that these can improve antioxidant activities. In the immunosuppressed rat, Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa significantly decreased IL-2 level, significantly increased Il-10 level, and significantly increased neutrophils, RBC, HGB, and HCT levels, indicating that it is effective in increasing immunity. Further, Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa significantly improved intensity and preference in the sensory evaluation.Conclusions : From the above results, it is concluded that Iksuyongjingo plus Sparassis crispa which is gamibang of Kyungokgo can act effectively on improving antioxidant activity and immunity, and can attribute convenient intake by improving diet preference.

A Study on the Status and Product Analysis for Improvement of Elementary School Classroom Furniture (초등학교 일반 교실 가구 개선을 위한 현황 및 제품 분석 연구)

  • The elementary school classroom is a space where children spend a long time during the day, during the six years of childhood, in which children are emotionally sensitive and emotionally important. Therefore, it is necessary to create a classroom that can develop emotions considering the developmental characteristics of children. However, the elementary school classroom in Korea has less change in the classroom envir- onment than in the rapidly changing curriculum, and classrooms and furniture considering emotional development are hard to find. Therefore, this study suggests the necessity of improvement for classroom furniture of elementary school, presents problem and consideration condition of present classroom furniture by analyzing the present condition of elementary school classroom in Korea and child development characteristic of school age, and proposes the improvement direction through analyzing domestic and foreign classroom furniture products. To do this, we checked the physical and developmental characteristics of children ages 8 to 13, confirmed the use of the classroom furniture in 10 schools located in Seoul, Gye- onggi and Incheon, analyzed the problems of these furniture, compared and analyzed the shape, material, and color of the products of 32 domestic companies teaching tools manufacturers focusing on desks, chairs, lockers, and teaching aid box that are commonly used in classrooms. Through this, this study provided basic data for the selection of ideal classroom furniture in the future.

Current State and Improvement Measures of HACCP System Applying in Elementary School Lunch (HACCP 적용 초등학교급식에서의 시행실태와 개선방안)

  • To provide data necessary for effectively applying the HACCP system by understanding the current application condition of HACCP system and satisfaction level of the dietician in elementary schools, a mail-in survey was conducted on dieticians serving for 227 elementary schools applying HACCP system in Kyungsangbuk-Do since November 1, 2001 to December 20, 2001. 83.5% of the subjected schools were conducting more than 50% of HACCP cooking process management, and the level of cooking process management displayed significant relevance according to the number of dieticians serving the school meals. The area that was not well conducted in the field of HACCP system was proven to be water examination(94.0%), inspection on self-sanitation of cooks prior to cooking(90.6%), and maintenance of dry kitchen floor(l4.8%). The reason why the above areas are not well conducted was because of lack of time due to over workloads. Subjective dieticians had pointed out improvement of sanitary concept(58.1%) and improvement of self-sanitation (28.8%) as benefits of applying HACCP. 21.2% of the subjective dieticians were satisfied with application HACCP and 35.2% were dissatisfied with applying HACCP. In case of which the duration of applying the HACCP was longer than one year and in case of higher rate of HACCP cooking process management and longer work experience of the dieticians, the level of satisfaction was proven to be significantly higher. The most difficult things to follow in important management categories according to the features of dietitian work and work experience were food distribution of CCP7 step and maintenance of optimum temperature(70.7%). Subjective dieticians had pointed out insufficient facility or environment and lack of inspection equipments in order regarding problems of applying HACCP. Also in the level of necessity of improvement categories in applying HACCP, dieticians had replied that facility and equipment improvement was mostly needed. Due to the induction of HACCP system in school meals, comparatively well cooking process management is being conducted, and I believe it could contribute in securing safety and quality improvement of school meal by improving the sanitation concept of the dieticians. However, the satisfaction level of dieticians are rather low and there are many difficulties in maintaining optimum temperature in the process of food distribution and transportation process. Also, lack of facilities and environment, lack of inspection equipments and etc are pointed out as problems of inducing HACCP. Thus, to settle HACCP system, it is believed that brave investment must be preceded.

Voltage Stability Enhancement by Optimal Placement of UPFC

  • This paper presents the improvement of the voltage profiles of power system networks by the inclusion of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC). The mathematical model of the UPFC is incorporated in the load flow algorithm and the L-index is calculated for the different values of the control parameter r $and{\gamma}$. The positioning of the UPFC device is changed to minimize the sum of the squares of the L-indices at all load buses. The test cases considered for the improvement of voltage profile with the WSCC 9-bus and IEEE 30 bus system. With the best position of UPFC along with the control parameters the improvement in voltage profile of the power system networks are obtained. The results obtained are quite encouraging compared with other techniques used to identify the best location of UPFC.

Dynamic Range Improvement of IM-DD Optical Link using Dual-Wavelength Dual-Parallel Modulation

  • In this paper, we present an incoherent dual-parallel modulation linearized optical link employing two different optical wavelengths. Comparing with previous dual-parallel modulation, this linearization method prevents the recreation of distortion products and can be readily implemented. Furthermore, a dual-wavelength dual-parallel modulation linearized optical link constructed with the commercially available devices is experimentally demonstrated with a spurious-free dynamic range of $122.5dB.Hz^{4/5}$. More than 25 dB suppression of the intermodulation distortion, 15.6 dB improvement of spurious-free dynamic range and 1.5 dB improvement of compression dynamic range are achieved after linearization.

A Study on the Improvement of G-SEED through Analysis of Previous Studies on School Facilities (학교시설의 녹색건축인증제 개선을 위한 문헌분석에 관한 연구)

  • Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design(G-SEED) has been implemented for the realization of sustainable development and resource-saving and eco-friendly buildings from 2002. Studies about the green buildings are made actively and is being developed through constant revision. However, study results of green building have not been fully reflected in the standard. Therefore, this study analyzes the previous studies about G-SEED for school facilities and check the degree of to reflect the problems and improvements suggested in previous studies. This study will be a reference of future revision Substantial problems and requirements are not reflected in revision standard. Proposed improvement requirements are classed as to improve the items(establish specific standards, supplementation), strengthen standards(designate the prerequisite items), propose a new evaluation method, add new items. delete exist items and adjust the score. Therefore, future revision of G-SEED for school facilities should reflect the results of previous studies.

  • This paper draws on the interdependence theory to examine the role of power and mutual dependence on the relationship between internal/external diffusion and performance improvement within a supply chain. The results from a survey of 375 respondents show that two patterns of IOS diffusion - internal diffusion and external diffusion - have different impacts on a firm's performance improvement according to differences in power and mutual dependence between two parties in the supply chain.

Need of Dormitory Environment Improvement and School-life Stress in the Special-purpose high school according to Residential Satisfaction in Dormitory and Housing (기숙사와 자가의 주거환경 만족도에 따른 특목고의 기숙사 환경개선 요구도 및 학교생활 스트레스)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence the need for improvements to dormitory environments and to study the stress from school-life according to residential satisfaction in dormitories and housing. For the purpose of this study, a survey was conducted including a questionnaire consisting of a residential satisfaction scale, a need of dormitory environment improvement scale, and a school-life stress scale. The subjects were 453 special purpose students in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do who all live in a dormitory. Factor analysis, Cronbach' $\alpha$ and MANOVA were employed for data analysis, and Scheffe test was used for post-hoc analysis. First, the lower group the satisfaction of a physical residential environment in a dormitory, the more likely it is that the dormitory environment need improvement. The result of this study suggests that dormitory students are much more sensitive to conditions relating to physical residential satisfaction than to sociopsychological residential satisfaction. Also, the residents believe that change to these physical residential conditions facilitate an improvement to sociopsychological residential satisfaction. Moreover, when the satisfaction of a physical residential environment is lower group, more perceptive stress occurs from academic, health and personal factors while a lower satisfaction for the sociopsychological residential environment results in a more perceptive stress from the environment. The result of this study suggests that dormitory conditions indicate the necessity of improving the environment to adapt well to school-life, thus reducing stress. Also when simply providing a supplementary physical residential environment the sociopsychological residential environment should be considered, as this can cause conflicts between roommates. Second, the lower group the satisfaction for a physical residential environment in housing, the more likely it is that the dormitory environment need improvement. The result of this study suggests that for environments of inadequate housing there is a strong urge towards needing more independence and a better living environment. Third, when group feel there is a more substantial difference in the physical residential environment between dormitories and housing, it is more likely it is that the dormitory environment need to be improved. Also, when they feel there is more substantial difference in the sociopsychological residential environment between dormitories and housing, a more perceptive stress is detected from the environment. The result of this study suggests that dormitory students want to have the same level of conditions as those provided in housing. Also, dormitory students want to need more physical environment improvement than sociopsychological environment improvement.
