Study on the Characteristics of Space Organization of School Community Library -Focusing on a fact-finding study of school community library through life-learning city project carried out by Gangneung-si- (학교마을도서관 공간구성 특성에 관한 연구 -강릉시 평생학습도시 사업을 통한 학교마을도서관의 실태조사를 중심으로-)

  • The main purpose of this study is to analyze construction of space through the investigation of the cases of school community library through Gangneung-si's life-learning project and the findings from the analysis could be summarized as below. Firstly, most space used for school community library has the size of two classes in school on average and locals use generally space for reference and learning at school community library. Secondly, the construction of space of school community library is categorized into one for book-returning, references, reading, group learning and information, and an audio-visual space is also used for group learning and reading. A space for book-returning has features based on the location of its entrance and a space for reading features stand-up and sitting-on space considering size and usability. And a space for group learning has the feature of space planning that makes it possible for local people to get library programs and seminars and a space for information shows its feature of space planning that uses the wall.

  • The opportunity provided for design method and strategy of community space for secondary school through the experience of public library and gallery, is the purpose of this paper. Community space is an important issue in school architecture as it seeks to revive the public area in educational building and to renew the open space as a multi-entertainment space. The latest works of school, however, which are evaluated as well reflected the reality of educational patterns, are still deficient in that communicational elements in school are underdeveloped and inadequate. The cases of this paper, which are grown up as entertainment library and multi-purpose cultural space such as Seattle Public Library, Sendai Mediatech, Tate Modem Gallery, and Kunsthaus, are suitable to offer the method of the creation of community space for school. This paper reviews an assessment of its success in community space for school architecture with multi-entertainment-purpose library and cultural space connected open space and concludes with the establishment of design method for future school; extraction of the factors contributing to development of community space in school and proposal of design method; implementation of school renewal with library and gallery plus open space for the creation of identity considering both of study and play.

  • The implication of space in school libraries more important than the other types of libraries because their main user is students who are affected by service environment. Let me consider the reality of our circumstance, the space is not enough in the school library, Therefore, it is essential to utilize of library space effectively. So, this study intends to suggest effective organization model of school library space, through introduced by the notion of information commons. The results show that they are integrated within school library, which, in addition to other functions, may include recreation center, and interactive community, circulation space, administrative offices and so on and suggest the library space design and management need to reflect the flexibility and inter-activeness of the space. Also, in order to acquiring human-centered aspect and openness, school library appropriate space planning for present needs and future expansion is imperative within school community.

  • The primary school library make high using convenience of teachers and students and support work of teachers efficiently because of transmission education and information fundamentally. Generally, the main purpose of space composition is economic Lay-out of space and furniture to connect faculty of between space and space. Therefore, to convenient for users and high effect of education, Lay-out of space and furniture, we survey and analyze Lay-out type of faculty space in primary school library. To this aspects, the purpose of this study is to understand state and analyze the occupancy character of space for students that user of primary school library then when we plan primary school library, accomplish more efficient space plan that specialization, pluralistic, individuality of primary school library and cope with environment of education and change of society actively.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the spacial composition feature of Law School Library and define the feature in spacial planning of law school library. Through the analysis of characteristics in spacial composition, the basic spacial type of law school library will be proposed as a new law school library design. The spatial composition characteristics of Law school Library are as followings. (1) Entry spatial feature for the user accessibility (2) Reference room spatial planning for carrel user (3) Connectivity of educational & research space and reference room space. As the result of design proposal and analyzing the spacial feature, firstly entry common space of library should be planned with reference room space. Secondly, reading room should be linked to the entry level for the user. Lastly, core space should be planned as the vertical connectivity space for the intimately linkage of educational & research space and reference room. And separated accessibility should be considered for direct connection from outdoor space.

  • According to the new multi-media appeared as a result of rapid growth of the information and science technique, the school library must be changed to the integration of the teach-study media resource from the existing print media. It means that the school library has to play a role of the study center with a different media from the existing teaching material, teaching instrument, facility and opportunity. The Information education must be conducted in the way of an integrated education course and able to do both information transaction and problem settlement. The education facility to solve this problem is the school library. Therefore, the school library becomes important more and more. It means that the school library is the center of entire study and education material for the teacher and student is focused on it. It is urgent to make the standard of the school library In order to cope with the new education and information environments. And especially it is very important to make a plan about the location and scale of the school library to improve the quality of the children's studying activity. The location of the school library is decided under consideration of the relationship with other room of school house and the proper scale of it is between 2.5units and 7.0units of classroom based on the number of class.

  • The development of new technology and the change of educational environment are much influencing the primary and middle school education. The school library which is very important part of school education in order to perform its functions effectively and efficiently must be provided with professional staff, necessary resources and adequate facilities. It is necessary to redesign and renovate existing facilities to meet the growing needs of newly developed school library programs and to effectively manage and allocate physical space appropriately. The objective of this research is to study the theoretical background of the subject and to find out present conditions and future needs of school library facilities and environmental change in Korea through a predesigned questionnaire for a redesign proposal.

  • This study is for a small sized library to expand the functions of public libraries in the community. This study aims to encourage local residents utilizing information and public libraries by opening parted facilities to public and naming it a substitute. It is expected to contribute to richer welfare system. In detail, the study discusses progression of the small sized library as well as budgeting and hiring staffs in Committee on Library and Policy. However, there is limitations in terms of capabilities because school library is different from public library target users, space, unit plans. Therefore, this study investigates a small sized library as a function to find out type, plan, and space availability and size of ideal open school library.

  • This paper starts by exploring the problems of public education under knowledge based society. It then analyzes the questionnaire about the function of school library media center as a culture space. The results show that school library media center should take a role as repertory appreciation center of various arts, recreation center, and interactive community.

Analysis of Current Status and Teacher Librarians' Perception about Space Composition and Interior Environment of School Libraries (학교도서관 공간 영역 및 실내 환경 요소의 구성 현황과 사서 교사 인식 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze current status and teacher librarians' perceptions of school library space composition and indoor environment, and propose some methods for the school library to be a basic educational facility. The space most secured by the 126 teacher librarians who participated in the survey was the free reading area, and the space with the lowest level was the media production and group project area. The most important types of spaces for teacher librarians are the teaching area and the free reading area, while the recognition of the importance of media production and group project areas is relatively low. Among the elements of indoor environmental assessment, they showed that safety and comfort were the most important but diversity and flexibility were relatively less important. The result of this analysis is different from the school and library policy direction that emphasizes the learning commons and maker spaces. Teacher librarians still seem to appreciate the importance of traditional library space. Therefore, it is necessary to include the establishment and operation of maker spaces and learning commons in the teacher librarians training and retraining process. In addition, it is necessary to increase the participation of users such as teachers, students, and parents in space composition and interior design initiatives to increase the user's interior environment satisfaction.
