  • The purposes of this study are that understand vocational high school student's scholastic ability, dream and conception about mathematics exactly and that we find a educational mathematics program suitable to vocational high school student. Through this improvement of the curriculum in vocational high school, we will find the way that increase efficiency.

  • The purpose of this study is to increase students' interest in the subject of English, which has been led by some mannerism, and to improve the students' basic scholastic ability and self-controlled problem solving, through adopting an individualized Web Based Instruction(WBI) as a concrete and practical learning method. In order to achieve this, an individualized Web Based Instruction(WBI) homepage has been developed to be applied experimentally to the field of middle school education for 8 months, and a research has been made on its effects on the students' interest in English along with the improvement of English. Two groups which showed almost the same interest were selected as a controlled group and an experimental one. Individualized Web Based Instruction was applied to the experimental group, while the controlled group was not instructed according to student ability. The controlled group was taught using CD added with the textbook. As a result of T-test, the students in the experimental group showed more improvement in communicative competence than those in the controlled group.

  • We surveyed statistically the freshmen's achievement of the first year mathematics courses in Kwangwoon University, which were opened at the first semester of academic year 2006. In doing so, we classified the freshmen according to the Mathematical Area 'ga' or 'na' and the Natural Science or Social Science Area of Korean Scholastic Aptitude Test(KSAT) which they have chosen. We found that the freshmen who have chosen the Mathematical Area 'na' and the Social Science Area have the serious problem in studying the freshmen's math courses.

Moebius syndrome - About Pathogenesis, Clinical manifestations, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Moebius - (뫼비우스 증후군 - 발병기전, 임상양상, 진단 및 치료 - )

  • Objectives: To review the concept of Moebius syndrome. Methods: Literature search was done to study definition, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical feature, and treatment of Moebius syndrome. Pubmed, RISS, Google scholarship and uptodate scholastic were used in the research. Search words were 'Moebius syndrome', 'treatment of Moebius syndrome'. Only English and Korean studies were assessed. Results: Moebius syndrome is rare disease characterized by nonprogressive congenital uni- or bi-lateral facial (VII cranial nerve) and abducens (VI cranial nerve) palsy. This facial palsy is found across the world, and its incidence is approximately 1 per 250,000. Moebius is diagnosed by clinical features. Facial palsy, eye abduction problem, limb deformities, global cerebral nerve impairment can be shown. Rehabilitation, smile surgery, and acupuncture can be used to treat this. Conclusion: Moebius syndrome's epidemiology, pathogenesis, treatment is still not fully revealed. It is known to be a congenital disease which didn't have exact treatment except surgery. But, it needs further study about exact treatment, diagnosis, and pathogenesis.

Contribution of Food Behavior an Psychological Factor to Perceived Tiredness in Adolescens (청소년의 식행동과 심리적 요인이 피곤 자각도에 미치는 영향)

  • The relationship among food behavior, psychological factor(life strees) and perceive tiredness was investigated in 514 adolescents. Tiredness was measured in four cases: in lessons, before school, in the early evening and at weekends. Adolescents felt most tired in lessons and before school, and leat at weekends. Irregularity of meal times and skipping breakfast were positively correlated with tiredness in lessons and befor school. Consumption of some foods was related to perceived tiredness. High sugar or fat containing ice-cream, hamburger of fizzy drinks in boys, and crisps and cookies in girls were positively associated with tiredness. Whereas beans and mushrooms were negatively associated with tiredness in girls. Life stress(by scholastic problem and personal problem) of adolescents was positively related to tiredness. The contribution of stress to tiredness was much greater than of food behavior according to multiple linear regression .There was no relationship between nutrients intake and tiredness in lessons and before school which were more strongly influenced by stress, whereas the relationship was found at weekend without influences of stress. The more tired, the lower NARs(nutrient adequacy ratio) of energy, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B$_2$, and niacin were. In conclusion, some eating behavior and psychological factor can cause tiredness in adolescents, but tiredness in school and before school had more of a psychological cause than at weekend. A Linear Programming Model to the Score Adjustment among the CSAT Optional Subjects (대입수능 선택과목 점수조정을 위한 선형계획모형 개발 및 활용)

  • This study concerns with an applicability of the management science approach to the score adjustment among the College Scholastic Aptitude Test(CSAT) optional subjects. A linear programming model is developed to minimize the sum of score distortions between optional subjects. Based on the analysis of the 377,089 CSAT(2010) applicants' performances in social science test section, this study proposes a new approach for the score equating or linking method of the educational measurement theory. This study makes up for the weak points in the previous linear programming model. First, the model utilize the standard score which we can get. Second, the model includes a goal programming concept which minimizes the gap between the adjusting goal and the result of the adjustment. Third, the objective function of the linear programing is the weighted sum of the score distortion and the number of applicants. Fourth, the model is applied to the score adjustment problem for the whole 11 optional subjects of the social science test section. The suggested linear programming model is a generalization of the multi-tests linking problem. So, the approach is consistent with the measurement theory for the two tests and can be applied to the optional three or more tests which do not have a common anchor test or a common anchor group. The college admission decision with CSAT score can be improved by using the suggested linear programming model.

  • The purpose of this paper is to discover effective teaching and learning methods for improving low level mathematic matriculants', who passed the early decision program, problem solving abilities by analyzing their error patterns in the special lecture for basic mathematics in P University. In this paper, we examine the matriculants' understanding and errors on the fundamental concepts of function, and continuity and differentiability of function based on the pre-examination. We also measure the their academic achievement in the special lecture for basic mathematics, and analyze the differences of error patterns between pre-test and post-test result on the concepts of continuity and differentiability of function.

Relationship Between Problem Finding Ability and Problem Solving Ability in Chemistry (문제발견 능력과 화학 문제해결 능력과의 관계)

  • purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between high school students' Problem Finding Ability (PFA) and chemistry problem solving ability. To achieve this purpose, the interrelationship between the results of PFA in ill-structured scientific problem situation and the scores of sham examination in chemistry I of College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) was analyzed. The results of this study turned out to be as follows: There was correlation (r=.346) between the score of PFA test and that of sham examination in chemistry I of the CSAT. And a little correlation (r=.390) between PFA and students application ability which is one of the sub factors in sham examination of the CSAT. Especially, in the high achievers group there was high correlation (r=.446) between students fluency which is one of the sub factors in PFA, and application ability. This implies that the application ability of high achievers has something to do with their PFA for a variety of problems. As for the PFA between high achievers and low achievers, there was no significant difference (t=.830, p=.411).

An Exploratory Study of Nursing Problems in Adolescents with Nephrotic Syndrome (신증후군 청소년의 간호문제에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • This study was designed to investigate the problems facecl by adolescents who have nephrotic syndrome and who have struggled with their disease over a long time. Information obtained from this study can be utilized as basic data in planning nursing care for these adolescents. The subjects in this study were 13 adolescents who were being treated in the pediatric OPD of one general hospital in Seoul. The treatment period ranged from 2 to 15 years. The tool for this study was constructed after asking patients with nephrotic syndrome about their problems using anunstructured questionalire. Problem items which were observed during nursing cared in the pediatric unit. were also inclucled. Ten problem items were constructed on the basis of Moonlcy's problem check list and two additional items related to diet and physical activity were added to the list. The results of this study can be summerized as follows : adolescents with Nephrotic Syndrome. 1) have a vague knowledge about their illness and have distorted concepts. 2) feel social isolation within their peer group because of their changed appearance, limited physical activity and special diet regimen. 3) have problesm in heterosexual relationship because of short height in boys and changes in body propotions in girls. 4) think that their personality has changed due to illness. In most cases(8) changes were in a negative direct ion but in two cases they were positive. 5) have problems with scholastic achievement due to physical weakness and school absence. 6) who are in late adolescentce are more realistic and plan for their future taking into consideration their prognosis much more so than do patients who are in early adolescence. 7) have problems in their peer relationships. 8) have limitation their enjoy ment of leisure time. 9) have some conflict with their siblings. 10) think religion is significant and it has and influence on their life.
