  • In recent years, there has been a remarkable progress in the development of the fiber optic sensors for the detection of various chemicals. Fiber optic sensors have the advantages of very small size, flexibility and low cost. The fiber optic sensors employing different optical or spectroscopic phenomena have been reported such as bulk absorption, optical reflectance, fluoresces and energy transfer. In this study, the effect of nanoparticle concentration in liquid upon light absorption and scattering was studied using extrinsic fiber optic method. For the evaluation, we used Red (650 nm) and Blue (430 nm) light sources which are coupled through the standard cuvette using optical fiber to detector. The experiments are carried out with Polystyrene latex (400 - 800 nm), and Silicon (35 - 110 nm) nanoparticles suspended in Isopropanol. Differences in light absorption and scattering depending on nanoparticle concentration and type are discussed. This method may be useful to study nanoparticles properties for various application and research.

  • Resonance Scattering Theory (RST) offers us an interpretation of the resonance phenomena in the scattered field. It is shown 1.hat the scattered field consists of the resonance and background components in the RST. The suitable background is necessary in order to obtain the resonance component. In this study, the background coefficients are investigated to obtain resonance components from electromagnetic scattering field for cylindrical object with different permittivities. We show some valid results valid for two models; cavity and dielectric cylinder.

  • Field penetration and scattering characteristics of two dimensional open cylindrical cavity is studied. Exact analysis for this sort of structure is not achieved even if there are unusual phenomena of field penetration and scattering with cavity and aperture size. In this paper, we calculate a wide range of open cavity characteristics by using of FMM method, which is extended method of MOM. We find external mode of open cylindrical cavity corresponding to internal mode of closed cavity. The characteristics of resonance and scattering of this region is different compare with non resonant area. The result of study will apply to the EM wave shielding and RCS control.

  • In this paper the characteristics of submicron gate GaAs MESFET's have been studied using a particle model which takes into account the hot-electron transport phenomena, i.e., the velocity overshoot. \ulcornervalley(<000> direction), L valley (<111>direction), X valley (<100>direction) as the GaAs conduction energy band and optical phonon, acoustic phonon, equivalent intervalley, nonequivalent intervalley scattering as the scattering models, have been considered in this simulation. And the GaAs material and the device simulation have been done by determination of the free flight time, scattering mechanism and scattering angle according to Monte-Carlo algorithm which makes use of a particle model. As a result of the particle simulation, firstly the electron distribution, the potential energy distribution and the situation of electron displacement in 0.6 \ulcorner gate length device have been obtained. Secondly, the cutoff frequency, obtained by this method, is k47GHz which is in good agreement with the calculated result of theory. And the current-voltage characteristics curve which takes account of the buffer layer effect has been obtained. Lastly it has been verified that parasitic current at the buffer layer can be analyzed using channel depth modulation.

  • In this paper, we used MOM-based BIM(Born Iterative Method) algorithm to implement the inverse scattering for the detection of cancer. We adopted two-dimensional breast structure, integral equations and two-dimensional Green's function is solved with MoM(Method of Moment) to analyzing electromagnetic scattering phenomena. In addition, verifying the calculation of developed inverse scattering algorithm and analyzing medical applicability and limitations of the algorithm.

  • Korea urbanized rapidly, and overpopulation with high growth of the economy has resulted in decrepit facilities scattered all cities. If there is a strong wind during a fire, the fire is rapidly spread by various factors. Korea cannot build a prediction model for urban fire combustion phenomena because there are no studies that physically explain the suitable flame phenomena for its buildings. This study built a model for the generation of fire brand and includes to scattering, fall, and ignition An experiment was done using the wind tunnel facilities of the Japanese Building Research Institute (BRI). The results were used to explain the behavior of fire brand, and reflected in the fire simulation model.

  • Fracture behavior of ceramic dome port cover on air breathing engine using liquid and solid fuel propulsion system was carried out in this study. Fracture characteristics was tested and estimated using scaled model of ceramic dome port cover by Shock tube. Fracture behavior was obtained by the fracture pressure from pressure sensor and observed the scattering phenomena of fracture specimen using high speed camera. Results obtained from this study can be used in the base data of dome port cover design for an air breathing engine.

  • The orientational cross-over phenomena in an RF sputtering growth of TiN films were studied in an in-situ, real-time synchrotron x-ray scattering experiment. For the films grown with pure Ar sputtering gas, the cross-over from the more strained (002)-oriented grains to the less strained (111)-oriented grains occurred as the film thickness was increased. As the sputtering power was increased, the cross-over thickness, at which the growth orientation changes from the <002> to the <111> direction, was decreased. The addition of $N_2$ besides Ar as sputtering gas suppressed the cross-over, and consequently resulted in the (002) preferred orientation without exhibiting the cross-over. We attribute the observed cross-over phenomena to the competition between the surface and the strain energy. The x-ray powder diffraction, the x-ray reflectivity, and the ex-situ AFM surface topology study consistently suggest that the microscopic growth front was in fact always the (002) planes. In the initial stage of growth, the (002) planes were aligned to the substrate surface to minimize the surface energy. At later stages, however, the (002) growth front tilted away from the surface by about $60^{\circ}$ to relax the strain, which caused the cross-over of the preferred growth direction to the <111> direction.

  • This paper describes atmospheric phenomena and effects for satellite-to-ground laser communication channel. Satellite laser communication has advantages such as very high bandwidth, inherent security, robustness to electromagnetic interference, unlicensed frequency band. However, satellite laser communication is affected by various factors. Transmission quality is degraded by factors as system loss, geometric loss, misalignment loss, atmospheric loss. Atmospheric loss is major factor of performance degradation. In this paper, the atmospheric phenomena such as absorption, scattering and turbulence are discussed and analyzed for developing satellite laser channel model and laser transmission scheme robust to atmospheric phenomena.
