  • The requirement of acoustic material which is used in underwater environment more increases. The material is used to reduce acoustic signature and radiate noise for underwater vehicle. Underwater acoustic material was made by viscoelastic material such as rubber and polyurethane etc. The mechanical and acoustic characteristics of these material change with hydrostatic pressure. In order to improve an acoustic performance according to hydrostatic pressure, several kinds of scatterers were added to viscoelastic material. In this paper, acoustic modelling and analysis techniques of underwater acoustic material with hydrostatic pressure were introduced and proposed. The specimens for pulse tube test were made and echo reductions were calculated and measured with hydrostatic pressure. Also the characteristics of echo reduction of the specimens with hydrostatic pressure were obtained and discussed.

  • The application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has recently attracted considerable interest in various areas. A three-dimensional multiple-input multiple-output concentric two-hemisphere model is proposed to characterize the scattering environment around a vehicle in an urban UAV-to-vehicle communication scenario. Multipath components of the model consisted of lineof-sight and single-bounced components. This study focused on the key parameters that determine the scatterer distribution. A time-variant process was used to analyze the nonstationarity of the proposed model. Vital statistical properties, such as the space-time-frequency correlation function, Doppler power spectral density, level-crossing rate, average fade duration, and channel capacity, were derived and analyzed. The results indicated that with an increase in the maximum scatter radius, the time correlation and level-crossing rate decreased, the frequency correlation function had a faster downward trend, and average fade duration increased. In addition, with the increase of concentration parameter, the time correlation, space correlation, and level-crossing rate increased, average fade duration decreased, and Doppler power spectral density became flatter. The proposed model was compared with current geometry-based stochastic models (GBSMs) and showed good consistency. In addition, we verified the nonstationarity in the temporal and spatial domains of the proposed model. These conclusions can be used as references in the design of more reasonable communication systems.

  • The commercialization of ITS(Intelligent Transport System) is in sight including V2V(Vehicle-toVehicle) communication and analysis of related electromagnetic circumstances is essential process in relevant legislation. However analysis including numbers of vehicles have electrically large environment which leads to a lack of computational resources. In this letter, we suggest superposition method which require much less computational resources by subgrouping environment and using post-processing of results. Suggested method approximate original result by superpositioning of analysis which include scatterers near source, observation point. This letter also presented guideline of method and example for comparison with full analysis result.

  • The influences of scatterer and absorber in turbid material by light scattering in concrete admixture were interpreted for the scattered intensity and wavelength. The molecular properties have been studied by Monte Carlo simulation in resin of New Austria Tunnel Method. It has been found that the effects of optical properties in scattering media could be investigated by the optical parameters(${\mu}_s$, ${\mu}_a$,${\mu}_t$). Monte Carlo Simulation method for modelling of light transport in the civil engineering and construction field was applied. The results using a phantom were discussed that the admixture for shrinkage compensating concrete in NATM-rasin from source to detector is measured, and scattering intensity is stronger with those obtained through Monte Carlo Simulation. It may also aid in designing the best model for coatings and corrosion for the durability of metal constructions.

  • The method of moments(MoM) is one of the most popular integral-equation-based full-wave simulation methods, and the multi-level fast multipole method(MLFMM) algorithm can be used for its efficient calculation. When calculating the surface current on the large scatterer in the MoM or MLFMM, iterative methods for the final matrix inversion are used. Among them, BiCGstab(l) has been widely adopted due to its good convergence rate. The number of iterations can be reduced when l becomes larger, but the number of operations per iteration is increased. Herein, we analyze the computational complexity of BiCGstab(l) in the MLFMM method and propose an optimum choice of l.

  • This paper considers experimental and numerical studies on added resistance in waves. As the numerical methods, three different methods, strip method, Rankine panel method and Cartesian-grid method, are applied. The computational results of vertical motion response and added resistance are compared with the experimental data of Series 60($C_B=0.8$) hull, S175 containership and KVLCC2 hull. To investigate the influence of above-still water hull form, a Rankine panel method is extended to two nonlinear methods: weakly-nonlinear and weak-scatterer approaches. As nonlinear computational models, three ships are considered: original KVLCC2 hull, 'Ax-bow' and 'Leadge-bow' hulls. Two of the three models are modified hull forms of original KVLCC2 hull, aiming the reduction of added resistance. The nonlinear computational results are compared with linear results, and the improvement of computational result is discussed. As experimental approach, a series of towing-tank experiment for ship motions and added resistance on the three models (original KVLCC2 hull, 'Ax-bow' and 'Leadge-bow') are carried out. For the original KVLCC2 hull, uncertainty analysis in the measurement of vertical motion response and added resistance is performed in three waves conditions: ${\lambda}/L=0.5$, 1.1, 2.0. From the experimental results, the effects of hull form on added resistance are discussed.

  • Compton imaging is often recognized as a potentially more valuable 3-D technique in nuclear medicine than conventional emission tomography. Due to inherent computational limitations, however, it has been of a difficult problem to reconstruct images with good accuracy. In this work we show that the row-action maximum likelihood algorithm (RAMLA), which have proven useful for conventional tomographic reconstruction, can also be applied to the problem of 3-D reconstruction of cone-beam projections from Compton scattered data. The major advantage of RAMLA is that it converges to a true maximum likelihood solution at an order of magnitude faster than the standard expectation maximiation (EM) algorithm. For our simulations, we first model a Compton camera system consisting of the three pairs of scatterer and absorber detectors placed at x-, y- and z-axes, and generate conical projection data using a software phantom. We then compare the quantitative performance of RAMLA and EM reconstructions in terms of the percentage error. The net conclusion based on our experimental results is that the RAMLA applied to Compton camera reconstruction significantly outperforms the EM algorithm in convergence rate; while computational costs of one iteration of RAMLA and EM are about the same, one iteration of RAMLA performs as well as 128 iterations of EM.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm of the inverse scattering for the reconstruction of unknown dielectric scatterers using the finite-difference time-domain method and the design sensitivity analysis. We introduced the design sensitivity analysis based on the gradient information for the fast convergence of the reconstruction. By introducing the adjoint variable method for the efficient calculation, we derived the adjoint variable equation. As an optimal algorithm, we used the steepest descent method and reconstructed the dielectric targets using the iterative estimation. To verify our algorithm, we will show the numerical examples for the two-dimensional $TM^2$ cases.

  • Inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) is coherent imaging system formed by conducting signal processing of received data which consists of radar cross section(RCS) reflected from maneuvering target. A novel algorithm is proposed to compensate inter-pulse motion(IPM) for the purpose of forming an well-focused ISAR image through signals generated by stepped chirp waveform( SCW). The velocity and acceleration of the target related to IPM are estimated based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) which has been widely used in optimization technique. Furthermore, a modified PSO which enables us to improve the performance of PSO is used to compensate IPM in a very short-time. Simulation results using point scatterer model of a Boeing-737 aircraft validate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • The tangential electric polarizability of a electrically small square patch, which is commonly used in metasurfaces, is calculated using electric potential continuity. Since the potential at the patch surface is not uniform due to the equivalent electric dipole located at the center, there is a problem in that the polarizability is not uniquely defined. To obtain equivalent polarizability, the meshes in the analysis area are divided on the patch surface, and the equivalent polarizability is calculated by averaging the polarizabilities obtained at each point. The results of the proposed method, third-power series approximation, and experimental equations are compared and verified. Finally, the magnitude and phase of the reflection coefficient of patch metasurface calculated by generalized sheet transition conditions(GSTCs) are in good agreement with the HFSS simulation results.
