  • The effects of JPEG2000 compression on automated DSM extraction by using the area-based matching are evaluated in this paper. The influences on DSM heights obtained via PCI Geomatics OrthoEngine module are investigated using a single stereo model of 1:5,000 scale aerial photography at image resolution of 20 ${\mu}$m. The experiment design of elevation errors are computed for a range of compression rates from 2:1 to about 100:1, and the DSM which generated from uncompressed image is used as ‘ground truth’ data for comparison. The experimental results show that the standard deviation ranged from 0.9m to 2.5m with the compression ratio from 2 to 100. It is also observed that there is no significant degradation on DSM accuracy up to the compression ratio of 33.

  • Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and potential EDCs are mostly man-made, found in various materials such as pesticides, additives or contaminants in food, and personal care products. The high energy ionizing radiation has the ability to remove the EDCs with a very high degree of reliability and in a clean and efficient manner. The ionizing radiation interacts with EDCs both directly and indirectly. Direct interaction takes place with EDCs and the structure of EDCs is destroyed or changed. During indirect interaction, radiolysis products of water result in the formation of highly reactive intermediates which then react with the target molecules, culminating in structural changes. To confirm the radiation reduction of EDCs in industrial sludge, a pilot scale experiment up to 50 kGy of electron beam (EB) was conducted with samples from the textile dyeing industries. The experimental result showed the over 90% of reduction of Nonylphenol (NP) and Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) at around 10 kGy of absorbed doses.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the differences between emotional responses and neurotransmitters in moderate-intensity continuous exercise (MICE) and high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) in 30 low-active women. Both groups performed a designed acute treadmill exercise and repeated the same exercise three times at intervals of one week. MICE performed a 25-minute continuous exercise at 90% VT(ventilation threshold) after a 5-minute warm-up session at 50% VT and then cooled down for 5 minutes at 50% VT level. The HIIE was repeated 6 times for 2 minutes at 115% VT level, and the intermediate active recovery was repeated 4 times for 2 minutes at 85% VT level. The results of the statistical analysis are as follows. MICE was showed positive effect for feeling scale and PACES after exercise in the first experiment, but negative effect in the third experiment. Conversely, HIIE was showed negative effect for feeling scale and PACES after exercise in the first experiment, but positive effect in the third experiment. Neurotransmitters were significantly increased in all three groups after 10 minutes of exercise compared to before exercise. In summary, HIIE exercise may be a strategy to increase exercise compliance for low-active women.

  • Shear behaviors of eight dapped ends of four full-scale domestic single-tee slabs were evaluated. The dapped ends with 10cm topping concrete were designed based on live load requirements for the domestic parking lot of m 500kgf/㎡ and for the large market of 1,200 kgf/㎡. All specimens were designed by the ACI 318-99 design. The variations of the experiment were the shape of hanger reinforcements as followings: 1) general PCI design method(currently used in domestic), 2) 90 degree bent-up, 3) 60 degree bent-up. All experiments were conducted with 1.2 m shear span. The results obtained in this study were 1) all specimens fully complied with the shear strength requirements as specified by ACI 318-99 except for one strand bond slip specimen, 2)a specimen with the 60 degree bent up hanger reinforcing detail showed the best shear behaviors under full service and ultimate load, and 3)a specimen with the 90 degree bent up hanger reinforcing detail resulted in the worst shear behaviors.

  • Design of a vegetation type sound barrier was presented as a noise barrier on the boundary of neighborhood facilities including schools, and apartments. The suggested noise barrier is made of unit blocks that are to be formed by stacking over the wall structure containing the plant and soils in the blocks. The advantage of the vegetation noise barrier is to acquire not only sound absorptive effects of plants and soils, but also sound diffusive effect caused by the irregular surface of the barrier which could eventually mitigate the noise. First, the optimum size of the units to obtain the highest noise reduction was investigated using 1/10 scaled model experiment, and sound attenuation experiments were carried out using a 1/2 mock-up model which is 2 m high and 5 m long. Total 1,137 unit blocks were made of synthetic woods with the size of $10{\times}10{\times}9cm$. These unit blocks were installed on the both side of the 1/2 mock-up steel framed noise barrier. As a result, it was revealed that the block typed vegetation noise barrier has 7 dB higher insertion loss in comparison with the general plane noise barrier. Also, it was found that the appropriate size of unit blocks is $20{\times}20cm$ which has large effect of sound insertion loss.

  • The Study mainly focused on bioremediation of 16 types PAHs and heavy metals in contaminated marine sediments at filed scale study using slow release biostimulant ball (BSB) was investigated. In our experiment, filed scale study ($1m{\times}1m$) was performed and the effect of BSB on PAHs and heavy metals were analysed. BSB size and distance were determined and optimum size and distance were 3cm and 5.5cm respectively. BSB containing nutrients of acetate, nitrate and sulphate which can enhance the activity of microorganism to increase degrading capacity of PAHs and enhance the heavy metals stabilization also to decrease bioavailability. PAHs containing 16 types of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 rings compound PAHs were found and to degrade upto 100% in 2, 3 rings, upto 90 to 94% in 4 and 5 rings and 6 ring compound was degrade up to 70%. For heavy metals stabilization percentage was increased using BSB sediment and exchangeable portion was decreased and residual portion was increased in all analysed heavy metals. BSB enhance the PAHs degradation and stabilization of heavy metals percentages. BSB is a promising method for remediation of PAHs and heavy metals in contaminated marine sediments.

  • Debris flows are rapidly flowing masses of water mixed with soil and gravel from landslides which are caused by typhoons or rainstorms. The combination of Korea’s mountain dominated topography (70%) and seasonal heavy rains and typhoons causes landslides and large-scale debris flows from June to August. These phenomena often cause property damage and casualties that amount up to 20% of total annual disaster fatalities. The key point to predicting debris flow is to understand its movement mechanism, erosion, and deposition. In order to achieve a more accurate estimation of debris flow path and damage, this study incorporates quantitative analysis of high resolution LiDAR DEM (GSD 10cm) to delineate geomorphic and topographic changes induced by Jinbu real scale debris flow test.

  • Most designers use professional 3D animation tools such as 3DS MAX to manually create animation. This manual method requires a great deal of time and efforts, and does not allow animation characters to interact with one another. In this paper, we design an AI middleware of form as 3DS MAX plug-in to solve these issues. We present an AI expression structure and internal processing method for this middleware, and the method for creating AI character's structure. It creates AI character's structure by drawing figures and lines for representing AI elements. For experiment, we have produced same animations with the traditional method and our method, and measured the task volume in both methods. This result verifies that the task volume is similar or higher than the traditional method in small-scale tasks, but up to 43% of the task volume is reduced in large-scale tasks. Using the method proposed in this paper, we see that characters in an animation interact each other, and task volume in large-scale tasks are reduced.

  • Thermal plasma has been presented for the decomposition of perfluorocompounds (PFCs) which are extensively used in the semiconductor manufacturing and display industry. We developed pilot-scale equipment to investigate the large scale treatment of PFCs and called it a "thermal plasma scrubber". PFCs such as $CF_4$, $C_2F_6$, $SF_6$, and $NF_3$ used in experiments were diluted with $N_2$. There were two different types of experiment setup related to the water spray direction inside the thermal plasma scrubber. The first type was that the water was sprayed directly into the gas outlet located at the exit of the reaction section. The second type was that the water was sprayed on the wall of the quenching section. More effective decomposition took place when the water was sprayed on the quenching section wall. For $C_2F_6$, $SF_6$, and $NF_3$ the maximum destruction and removal efficiency was nearly 100%, and for $CF_4$ was up to 93%.

  • In modern society in which the fourth industrial revolution has come to the fore and rapid technology innovations are taking place, a phenomenon of making and selling small quantities of various products that consumers want instead of mass producing one item has emerged. As the market is moving toward the multi-item small-sized production system, there is a need for a system in which a machine independently judges and carries out machining and post-processing. In order for a machine to judge processing on its own, it is necessary to measure the force applied to a product. This study aimed to develop a large-scale dynamometer that enables three-axis measurement using octagonal ring load cells. As for the device's configuration, four octagonal ring load cells, which were previously researched, were used to enable three-axis measurement. It was reconfigured by modifying the attachment position of the octagonal ring load cells' strain gauge and the Wheatstone bridge of each axis, and a system was set up to allow the monitoring of data measured through the monitor. The configured device calculated a strain rate by an experiment, and this rate was compared with the theoretical strain rate to find a correction value. The correction value was entered into a formula, deriving a modified formula. The modified formula was entered into the device, which completed the large-scale dynamometer.
