  • The purpose of this study is to verify the visual perception on various cotton fabrics of the same color. Results obtained through subjective evaluation of cotton fabrics showed that the textural adjectives could be classified into 3; warm/cool, flexibility and surface property, the sensibility adjectives into 5; simple, attractive, masculine, conservative, comfortable and visual perception adjectives into 6; hard, warm, smooth, brilliant, classic and casual. Image distribution results on 12 different fabrics, showed different distributions among textiles on visual perception due to varying texture and sensibility. In thickness, weight, weave type, bending and surface characteristics which are structure characteristics, significant differences were shown for visual perception examination. Having placed into an image scale, visual perception dimension developed divided into the 'soft-hard' axis and the 'warm-cool' axis.

  • This study analyzed the Food Neophobia Scale (FNS) and Korean food perception status of Southeast Asian workers living in South Korea in order to build up basic data to develop a desirable diet program. From our study, we found that FNS was higher in the order of Cambodian, Myanmar, Vietnamese, and Thai workers. Influential demographic factors for FNS were cooking possibility and place of residence. The mean scores of Cambodian workers ($3.46{\pm}0.63$) regarding "positive perception of cooking method, taste & color" about Korean food were the highest among the four countries, followed by Vietnam ($3.38{\pm}0.68$), Myanmar ($3.26{\pm}0.50$), Thailand ($3.09{\pm}0.64$)workers(p<0.01). The mean scores of Myanmar workers regarding perception of "difference in cooking method, smell & texture" and "difference in taste" were the highest among the four countries. FNS had a negative correlation with the factor "positive perception of cooking method, taste & color" regarding Korean food and a positive correlation with the factors "difference in cooking method, smell & texture".

  • The purpose of this study was to contribute to maternal nursing in the early postpartum stage and neonate nursing. Data were collected through self-report questionaires which were constructed to include perception of the newborn scale, parental role stress scale and anxiety scale. The subjects consisted of 81 mothers of preterm babies at seven hospitals in Seoul and Kyoungki-Do, from July 15 to September 30, 2000. Data were analysed by SPSS/PC using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. The mean of perception of the newborn in the early postpartum stage was 1.35. The mean of parental role stress was 10.78. The mean of anxiety of mother was 39.74. 2. There were significant positive correlation between parental role stress and anxiety of mothers. 3. There were not significant influencing general characteristics to perception of the newborn and parental role stress. General characteristics related to the level of anxiety were economic status, expectation of pregnancy, birthing order, newborn weight. The above findings indicated that the level of parental role stress and anxiety of preterm birth mothers were correlated. Therefore nursing intervention for reducing parental role stress and anxiety should be provided for preterm birth mothers.

  • Relationships between peer bullying/victimization, friendship, and self- perception were examined in a sample of 279 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade elementary school students. Data on peer bullying/victimization was collected by peer report using Korean Peer Nomination Inventory; children reported for themselves on the Friendship Quality Scale and the Self-Perception Scale. Children who were involved in peer bullying/victimization reported fewer reciprocal friends and friends similar to themselves; they also showed low friendship quality. Peer victimization was predictable from low perception of social acceptance and friendship satisfaction, while intimacy with friends and high confidence on physical ability predicted peer bullying.

  • In this study, we compared how different the self-perception and the daily hassels between the Korean and American children. The subjects were 706 fifth and seventh grade students. Data were obtained by administrating a questionnaire. The instruments used for this study were self-perception profile for children scale(SPPC) and stress scale. 1. All the SPPC factors for Korean children was significantly lower than those for American children. The SPPC fators for American children didn't show any significant differences by grades. But for Korean children seventh graders showed significantly lower SPPC than fifth graders. 2. The most significant factor to predict the golbal self-worth was physical appearance for boys and girls. Self perception for physical appearance is more influential factor than scholastic competence to form the positive self-perception for both boys and girls. 3. The daily hassels for Korean children were significantly higher than those for American childredn. Also daily hassels for seventh graders were significantly higher than those for fifth graders. 4. Daily hassels global self worth correlated negatively. When the level of stress was increased, the global self-worth was decreased.

  • The objective of this study is to examine the motivation for renaming and the self-perception scale attained after renaming. The survey was conducted targeting 161 individuals across the country from April 1 to May 31, 2013. The analyzing methods include frequency analysis, correlation analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA analysis and stepwise regression analysis, etc. All of the empirical analysis was verified at the 5% level of significance. According to the result of analysis, the renamed individuals scored higher on the success scale, the emotional scale and the personality scale after renaming. The study found that the individuals, who adopted a new name as per their own desire, scored significantly higher on the self perception scale. The study will serve as a reference material for persons who desire a new name, based on its result that the greatest motivation for renaming is the "desire to have a good name" and that the biggest changes accompanying the new name are the self confidence and satisfaction which have helped the renamed individuals score higher on the self-perception scale after renaming.

  • Purpose: Patients' perception of fall risk is a promising new indicator for fall prevention. Therefore, a fall risk perception questionnaire that can be used rapidly and repeatedly in acute care settings is required. This study aimed to develop a short version of the fall risk perception questionnaire (Short-FRPQ) for inpatients. Methods: For the psychometric measurements, 246 inpatients were recruited from an acute care hospital. The construct (using confirmatory factor analysis and discriminant validity of each item), convergent, and known-group validities were tested to determine the validity of the Short-FRPQ. McDonald's omega coefficient was used to examine the internal consistency of reliability. Results: In the confirmatory factor analysis, the fit indices of the Short-FRPQ, comprising 14 items and three factors, appeared to be satisfactory. The Short-FRPQ had a significantly positive correlation with the original scale, the Korean Falls Efficacy Scale-International, and the Morse Fall Scale. The risk of falls group, assessed using the Morse Fall Scale, had a higher score on the Short-FRPQ. McDonald's omega coefficient was .90. Conclusion: The Short-FRPQ presents good reliability and validity. As patient participation is essential in fall interventions, evaluating the fall risk perception of inpatients quickly and repeatedly using scales of acceptable validity and reliability is necessary.
