Study on Energy Saving Properties by using City- Water as a Heat Source for Dwellings

  • A simulation study was conducted to use city-water which is thermally regulated by unused energy as a heat source for urban dwellings. This study utilized multiple heat pump system using the city-water as a heat source and suggested a method of reducing the heat load of hot water supply. The simulation was done to calculate the energy savings at a dwelling for a year. The relation between the controlled temperature of city-water. and electric energy in all seasons was also investigated. Furthermore, it has been found that the controlled water system can lead to considerable energy savings and decrease environmental load such as sensible waste heat which otherwise would form heat islands.

  • Energy consumption in Korea and Japan has already progressed to high level. Especially, it will be important to take up the effort to achieve further energy savings in residential sector that has significant increase both nations. For this reason, research for energy consumption and saving method in residential sector compare Korea with Japan that of similar data to grasps the direction for energy savings. In addition for introduction of distributed energy system to residential sector, such as apartment house, the electricity and gas demand was simulated. To be more specific, several key characteristics were studied, such as housing type housing scale and width of common space.

  • To achieve rapid developments and cost savings in manufacturing industries including automotive die shops, new paradigm and its supporting systems of information managements through total product life cycle are needed for concurrent and collaborative engineering. For manufacturing of automotive press dies, integrated and efficient managements of PPR information including product, manufacturing process and resource are essential. In this paper, we introduce a PLM approach to achieve engineering collaborations in product development and production of automotive dies. To prove concepts and benefits of PPR information managements, we implement new business workflow and detail procedures, PPR information management system and other related applications. By PPR information managements in PLM, improvements in quality of engineering results and savings in time from design to production of dies are possible.

  • The objectives of this study are to introduce the energy simulation program BLDSYM, to verify the approach, and to demonstrate the energy saving opportunities. A case study model for Hoover Middle School, OK, USA has been introduced as a base case simulation. Air-side variable air volume(VAV) and water-side variable flow hydronic(VFH) system have been recommended, modeled and simulated to quantify the energy savings compared with the base system, which is typically constant air and water flow system. More than 30% of energy savings could be obtained with the optimum variable flow system.

  • Cross-border supply chains undergone complexity in the global trade process, unpredictability and continually evolving regulations and information requirements. Under these circumstances, longer lead time inhibiting quick response to market demands, unanticipated supply chain costs eroding product cost savings, compliance and documentation errors causing delays and fines are challenging global trade companies when they execute global business. These problems are mainly caused by unautomated, unintegrated process which lead to longer and more unpredictable lead times, slower cash flow, cost overruns, and ultimately lower profits and less satisfied customers. Complex and unpredictable global trade environment requires global trade companies of global trade management functions to automate and control this complex environment for driving out cost, time and risk from their business. Global trade management allows cost savings, supply chain efficiencies and improved compliance through improving global supply chain visibility, facilitating cash flow by supply chain financing, enhancing supply chain security and risk management.

Energy Savings in OFDM Systems through Cooperative Relaying

  • Energy savings in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is an active research area. In order to achieve a solution, we propose a new cooperative relaying scheme operated on a per subcarrier basis. This scheme improves the bit error rate (BER) performance of the conventional signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)-based selection relaying scheme by substituting SNR with symbol error probability (SEP) to evaluate the received signal quality at the relay more reliably. Since the cooperative relaying provides spatial diversity gain for each subcarrier, thus statistically enhancing the reliability of subcarriers at the destination, the total number of lost subcarriers due to deep fading is reduced. In other words, cooperative relaying can alleviate error symbols in a codeword so that the error correction capability of forward error correction codes can be fully exploited to improve the BER performance (or save transmission energy at a target BER). Monte-Carlo simulations validate the proposed approach.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the family economy planning in the side of economic welfare and to discuss its problems. Hypothesis testing and survey analysis whether nuclear family have been formed in the urban communities or not are investigated. Also, survey of family economic period are classified in the following manner. First, as the beginning of family, they are interested in savings, children's education and investment of an estate. Third, as the contracting period of family, they rely upon other's financial supports. Therefore, it is desirable for each family to establish family life cycle planning. As the results of hypothesis testing, 1) Nuclear family have been formed in urban communities. 2) The age of housewives is not concerned with whether their husband's parents live in the same house or not. 3)The age of housewives is not concerned with whether their parents lived with them or not. 4) The relationship between the age of housewives and monthly income is not significant. 5) The relationship between the age of housewives and monthly expenditure is significant. 6)The relationship between the age of housewives and monthly savings is not significant.

  • In this Paper, optimal capacity of battery storage in Je-Ju is calculated. First, Electricity demand data of Je-Ju('06~'16) is estimated based on real electricity demand data of Je-Ju('06~'07). Then, the 4th power supply planning is used to calculate benefits from battery storage capacity in view of maximum power savings, preventing outages savings and energy charge fee reduction. Finally, optimal battery storage capacity is suggested.

  • Tilt-up construction is the method that the wall structures are fabricated horizontally on site and placed at specified location using heavy lifting equipment. Tilt-up method generally has several advantages, such as of productivity improvement, labor savings, shortened the construction period the and cost savings. In this study, Tilt-up method is used for wall construction of detached house. Result shores the substantial improvement on construction period. The use of Tilt-up method led construction period reduction of 20%.

Design optimization of reinforced concrete structures

  • A novel formulation aiming to achieve optimal design of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is presented here. Optimal sizing and reinforcing for beam and column members in multi-bay and multistory RC structures incorporates optimal stiffness correlation among all structural members and results in cost savings over typical-practice design solutions. A Nonlinear Programming algorithm searches for a minimum cost solution that satisfies ACI 2005 code requirements for axial and flexural loads. Material and labor costs for forming and placing concrete and steel are incorporated as a function of member size using RS Means 2005 cost data. Successful implementation demonstrates the abilities and performance of MATLAB's (The Mathworks, Inc.) Sequential Quadratic Programming algorithm for the design optimization of RC structures. A number of examples are presented that demonstrate the ability of this formulation to achieve optimal designs.
