Low-Delay, Low-Power, and Real-Time Audio Remote Transmission System over Wi-Fi

  • Audiovisual (AV) facilities such as TVs and signage are installed in various public places. However, audio cannot be used to prevent noise and interference from individuals, which results in a loss of concentration and understanding of AV content. To address this problem, a total technique for remotely listening to audio from audiovisual facilities with clean sound quality while maintaining video and lip-syncing through personal smart mobile devices is proposed in this paper. Through the experimental results, the proposed scheme has been verified to reduce system power consumption by 8% to 16% and provide real-time processing with a low latency of 120 ms. The system described in this paper will contribute to the activation of audio telehearing services as it is possible to provide audio remote services in various places, such as express buses, trains, wide-area and intercity buses, public waiting rooms, and various application services.

  • Traitor Tracing schemes are broadcast encryption systems where at least one of the traitors who were implicated in the construction of a pirate decoder can be traced. This traceability is required in various contents delivery system like satellite broadcast, DMB, pay-TV, DVD and so on. In this paper, we propose a public key traitor tracing scheme with key-update method. If the system manager can update a secret key which is stored in an authorized decode, it makes a pirate decoder useless by updating a secret key A pirate decoder which cannot update a secret key does not decrypt contents in next session or during tracing a traitor, this scheme has merits which will make a pirate decoder useless, therefore this scheme raises the security to a higher level.

  • From the beginning of a new millennium, the digital broadcasting services had been adopted to cable, satellite and radio broadcasting services as well as the terrestrial TV broadcasting services. The government established the installation standard of digital receiving equipment in 2007, which is needed for taking the new digital broadcasting services without additional facilities in an apartment house. In this paper, I will show the installation standard of digital receiving equipment in an apartment house and give a detailed explanation for the main criteria of it.

An Analysis on the Demand Characteristics of DMB Services (DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) 서비스의 수요특성 분석)

  • This paper analyzes the demand characteristics of DMB services using survey data. According to a Logit analysis, the willingness to adopt the services is higher if the would-be user is male, is better informed with the service, is watching TV longer, and is spending more for the telecommunications services. And the survey results tell us that for the stimulation of the service, efforts should be made to increase the level of public awareness of the services. The survey response from the would-be DMB users shows that the respondents who value the nationwide coverage and the numbers of channel are more inclined to use the satellite DMB service. On the other hand, the service charge and the availability of the terrestrial broadcasting channel for the time being does not seem to influence the intention of using the terrestrial DMB service. It could be interpreted that the potential user are deciding whether to use the service more by the quality and contents of the service rather than by the cost of the service.

  • The emergence of new communication media, digital, is something of a wonder, as well as a cultural tension. The industrial technologies that dramatically expand human abilities are being developed much faster than the speed of adaptation by humans. Without an exception, it creates new contents and form of the culture by shaking the very foundation of the notion about human beings. Korean broadcasting environment has stepped into the era of multi-media, multi-channel as the digital technology separated the media into network, cable, satellite and internet. In this digital culture, broadcasting, as a medium of information delivering and communication, has bigger influence than ever. Such changes in broadcasting environment turned the TV viewers into new consumers who participate and play the main role in active communication by choosing and using the media. This study is trying to systemize the question about the core identity of broadcasting through brand as the consumers stand in the center of broadcasting with the power to select channel. The story schema theory can be applied as a cognitive psychological tool to approach the active consumers in order to explain the cognitive processes that are related to information processing. It is a design with stories, which comes up as a case of a brand's story telling. The range of this study covers the current issue and educational programs in network TV during the period of May and August of year 2005. The cases of Korean and foreign programs were compared by the station each program is broadcasted. This study concludes that it is important to take the channel identity into the consideration in the brand strategy of each program. Especially, the leading programs of a station must not be treated as a separate program that has nothing to do with the station's identity. They must be treated to include the contents and form that builds the identity of the channel. Also, this study reconfirmed that building a brand of the anchor person can play as an important factor in the identity of the program's brand.

  • The purpose of this article is to investigate the relation the animation to culture archetype, focusing on the case of the matter for animation content creation. Furthermore, in the paper, we also study about the animation industry development using various cultural archetypes such as the tale, myth, legend, folk tale, which are usable for animation content industry. For purposes of this study, we analyzed the aspects of power of folk tale and the essential vitality of folk tale in KBS Satellite Channel's and Michel Ocelot's $\grave{e}$re>. Above all, the origin of literature, folk tales are characterized by their uniqueness of each people as well as the global universality, being reproduced over and over again in oral literature. In the existent mode, folk tales have a firm structure because of storytelling, and have characteristics of performance and tradition on the basis of this structure. These characteristics can make emotional experience deepen and insure quality of narrative experience through direct communications. In this context, comparing folk tales of diverse forms of each nation and discovering the ethnicism and universality would not only be critical in the animation content development aspects, but provide precious data for effective animation marketing to apply One Source-Multi Use.

Characteristics of Beam-tilting Slot Array Waveguide Antennas for DBS Reception (DBS 수신용 빔 틸트형 슬롯 어레이 도파관 안테나의 특성)

  • This paper describes the characteristics of beam-tilting slot away waveguide antennas for mobile DBS reception. As a basic study of slotted waveguide array, design for 16 slot elements located on a broad-wall waveguide is considered. Design parameters such as slot length, space between each slot and cross slot angle of antennas with the beam-tilting characteristics are calculated by method of moments. Based on these results, the radiation waveguide antennas with 16-element $\times$16-array are designed and fabricated. The measured main beam direction angles of the fabricated antennas are 48$^{\circ}$to 50$^{\circ}$depending on the measured frequencies and it shows good agreement with prediction. The measured 3 dB beam width of elevation pattern is about 13$^{\circ}$, and the axial ratio and the gain measured at DBS band are observed 2.8 dB below and 24 dBi above, respectively. In order to evaluate a performance of the fabricated waveguide planar antenna, it is combined with the satellite tracking control system and the field performance test of antenna mounted on a mobile vehicle is carried out at highway. During the measurement, it was possible to watch television without a break signal in a driving vehicle and an excellent performance of the proposed antennas was demonstrated.

The Study on the Design and Manufacturing of Large Aperture Cassegrain antenna (대구경 카세그레인 안테나의 설계 및 제작 고찰)

  • The design and manufacfure technology of the large aperture cassegrain antenna was first studied in the country, and its performances in a trial manufactured product are measured and compared. In order to design this cassegrain antenna with reference to several literatures, the schemed order was decided. Especially, for the cassegrain antenna of 4.6m diameter which is becoming the television receiving antenna directly from satellite, in advanced countries, the 1/12 sized small section of its parabolic curved surface is made primarily with the precision of less difference than 1/16λ depth. Cares are taken also on the computer program so that the size and position of primary radiator may satisfy the minimum blocking with the given sub-reflector. The preformances of the designed antenna are shown as being 43dB in gain, 1.15 or less in VSWR, 1.1$^{\circ}$ of beam angle etc., and found to be not worse than those of foreign productions with similar type and size.

  • DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting) is a new media service that can provide CD quality audio, various data service, interactive and high quality mobile communications through popular media such as terrestrial broadcasting, satellite, cable TV, and internet. In this paper, a new EPG(Electronic Program Guide) application model is proposed. The model is based on DAB and combines a DAB receiver and PCs so that it can take advantages of using various multimedia services and plenty of internet contents. The developed EPSD(EPG Provider System on DAB) has Web-based Server/Client structure and povides EPG functionalities to client PCs over internet. Therefore, the DAB receiver can be smaller and cheaper, and can develop abundant data services on internet. It can also provide high quality video services and be expected to become an important component in future home network systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to observe the elements of Japanese popular culture portrayed in Korean new generation fashion at the current point of time, when Japanese popular culture is first being opened to Korea. And the another purpose is to look into the fashion consciousness of them, which is made up of these aspects. The new generation plays the leading role in further excelling the culture of our society. They are the generation of sense and sensibility, the generation of "me", the generation of information, and the generation of individuality. Even before Japanese popular culture was officially opened, the new generation was already accepting fashion, comics and animation, video games, music, broadcasting, food, etc. The Japanese cultural elements that show most in Korean fashion are street fashion and the fashion of celebrities. These are mostly brought in by fashion magazines, the internet, satellite TV, the new media of cable TV, and street shops. The aspects of Japanese popular culture in Korean new generation fashion are many and varied. Such examples in fashion are : vintage style, school-girl style, sexy causal style, black coordination, soft avant-garde style. It can be said that the fashion consciousness of Korean new generation could be placed in the following order. First, the variety of fashion. Next, the internationalism of fashion. Third, the information of fashion, and last, the play value of fashion. Interest has peaked in Japanese culture after the official opening, and this study has explored the very same aspects which can be seen in Korean new generation fashion. This study was meant to help make a responsible and sturdy new generation fashion culture which can help face the new millennium.
