  • Current differential GPS (DGPS) system consists of reference station (RS), integrity monitor (IM), and control station (CS). The RS computes the pseudorange corrections (PRC) and generates the RTCM messages for broadcasting. The IM receives the corrections from the RS broadcasting and verifies that the information is within tolerance. The CS performs realtime system status monitoring and control of the functional and performance parameters. The primary function of a DGPS integrity monitor is to verify the correction information and transmit feedback messages to the reference station. However, the current algorithms for integrity monitoring have the limitations of integrity monitor functions for satellite outage or anomalies. Therefore, this paper focuses on the detection and identification methods of satellite anomalies for maritime DGPS RSIM. Based on the function analysis of current DGPS RSIM, it first addresses the limitation of integrity monitoring functions for DGPS RSIM, and then proposes the detection and identification method of satellite anomalies. In addition, it simulates an actual GPS clock anomaly case using a GPS simulator to analyze the limitations of the integrity monitoring function. It presents the brief test results using the proposed methods for detection and identification of satellite anomalies.

  • We developed a time comparison system using the ranging signal of the geostationary meteorological satellite(GMS). By using the system time comparison between the KRISS(Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science) cesium atomic clock and the GMS ranging signal has been carried out and the results have shown that the precision of time comparison at KRISS is about 10 ns. For the more accurate measurements we calibrated the receiver delay time between KRISS receiver and CRL(Communications Research Laboratory) receiver by using the portable GMS receiver.

  • In this paper, the efficient implementation technique of media processing part in the terrestrial and satellite DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) receiver is presented. To implement the unified multimedia Processor of DMB receiver, we investigated the characteristic of DMB service and the functionality of each processing part in the DMB receiver. To implement the synchronization between audio and video media, we present the general method to use the reference clock of the stream in the DMB receiver. Also we present the method to handle the bit error of the received bitstream within the wireless net work for robust media processor.

  • The camera electronics in the KOMPSAT-3 payload provides the several control clocks in order to move the charges, which are converted from the light in the pixel, in the vertical and horizontal direction. Generally, the control clocks depend on the CCD internal design in the system. The KOMPSAT-3 payload uses the CCD controlled by 3-phase vertical clocks and 4-phase timing. The camera generates the various clocks such as the vertical clocks, the horizontal clocks, the summing clocks, the reset clocks and so on. The vertical clocks are deeply related to the camera performance and synchronized with satellite scan-rate even though they are relatively slow. Also, it gives the horizontal clocks without distortion under the very fast pixel-rate. This paper shows the design and simulation of the CCD clocks driver for the KOMPSAT-3 payload.

  • The use of final IGS precise orbit and clock products for high-rate GNSS-PPP proved its effectiveness in capturing dynamic displacement of engineering structures caused by earthquakes. However, the main drawback of using the final products is that they are available after approximately two weeks of data collection, which is not suitable for timely measures after an event. In this study, the use of ultra-rapid products (observed part), which are available after a few hours of data collection, and rapid products, which are available in less than 24 hrs, are investigated and their results are compared to the more precise final products. The tests are designed such that harmonic oscillations with different frequencies and amplitudes and ground motion of a simulated real earthquake are generated using a single axis shake table and the PPP was used to capture these movements by monitoring time-change of the table positions. To evaluate the accuracy of PPP using ultra-rapid, rapid and final products, their results were compared with relative GNSS positioning and LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) data, treated as reference. The results show that the high-rate GNSS-PPP solutions based on the three products can capture frequencies of harmonic oscillations and dynamic displacement with good accuracy. There were slight differences between ultra-rapid, rapid and final products, where some of the tested events indicated that the latter two produced are more accurate and provide better results compared to the ultra-rapid product for monitoring short-term dynamic displacements.

  • When user estimates user's position, GPS positions can be obtained from the navigation message transmitted from the GPS. However, the broadcast ephemeris cannot be used in the applications required high-level accuracies because it can cause errors of several meters. To correct satellite positions and clocks, user can use RTS corrections provided by IGS. In this paper, the accuracy of broadcast and RTS corrections are analyzed by comparing with the IGS final for 3-months. The RTS errors are analyzed for each user's locations and satellite blocks. The correlations between errors and shadow condition, and solar and geomagnetic activities are analyzed. The latency is applied to the RTS corrections, and these are extrapolated by polynomial. Then, the extrapolated RTS are compared with true RTS. The single-day performances of the PPP by broadcast ephemeris and RTS corrected ephemeris are analyzed. As a result, RTS 3D orbit and clock errors are 1/20 and 1/3 less than broadcast ephemeris errors. 3D positioning error of the RTS is 1/5 less than that of broadcast ephemeris.

  • Reaction wheel is one of the actuators for spacecraft attitude control, which generates torque by changing an inertial rotor speed inside of the wheel. In order to generate required torque accurately and estimate an accurate angular momentum, wheel speed should be measured as close to the actual speed as possible. In this study, two conventional speed detection methods for high speed motor with digital tacho pulse (Elapsed-time method and Pulse-count method) and their resolutions are analyzed. For satellite attitude maneuvering and control, reaction wheel shall be operated in bi directional and low speed operation is sometimes needed for emergency case. Thus the bias error at low speed with constant acceleration (or deceleration) is also analysed. As a result, the speed detection error of elapsed-time method is largely influenced upon the high-speed clock frequency at high speed and largely effected on the number of tacho pulses used in elapsed time calculation at low speed, respectively.

  • Precise Point Positioning (PPP) algorithms using GPS code pseudo-range measurements were developed and their accuracy was validated for the purpose of implementing them on a portable device. The group delay, relativistic effect, and satellite-antenna phase center offset models were applied as fundamental corrections for PPP. GPS satellite orbit and clock offsets were taken from the International GNSS Service official products which were interpolated using the best available algorithms. Tropospheric and ionospheric delays were obtained by applying mapping functions to the outputs from scientific GPS data processing software and Global Ionosphere Maps, respectively. When the developed algorithms were tested for four days of data, the horizontal and vertical positioning accuracies were 0.8-1.6 and 1.6-2.2 meters, respectively. This level of performance is comparable to that of Differential GPS, and further improvements and fine-tuning of this suite of PPP algorithms and its implementation at a portable device should be utilized in a variety of surveying and Location-Based Service applications.
