In this paper, a double gimbal is used for roll/yaw attitude control of spacecraft and two feedback controllers are designed. One is a PD controller of no phase difference between roll and yaw control input. The other is a PD controller with a phase lag compensator about the yaw control input. The phase lag compensator is designed a first order system and a lag parameter is designed for the control of yaw angle. There are two case simulations for each of controllers; constant disturbance torques and initial errors of nutation. We obtain the results through simulations that a steady-state error and a rising time of yaw angle are developed by the compensator. In this paper, simulation parameters use the values of KOREASAT 1.

With the popularity of sensor-rich environments, smartphones have become one of the major platforms for obtaining and sharing information. Since it is difficult to utilize GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) inside the area with many buildings, the localization of smartphone in this case is considered as a challenging task. To resolve problem of localization using smartphone a four step image-based localization method and procedure is proposed. To improve the localization accuracy of smartphone datasets, MMS (Mobile Mapping System) and Google Street View were utilized. In our approach first, the searching for candidate matching image is performed by the query image of smartphone's using GNSS observation. Second, the SURF (Speed-Up Robust Features) image matching between the smartphone image and reference dataset is done and the wrong matching points are eliminated. Third, the geometric transformation is performed using the matching points with 2D affine transformation. Finally, the smartphone location and attitude estimation are done by PnP (Perspective-n-Point) algorithm. The location of smartphone GNSS observation is improved from the original 10.204m to a mean error of 3.575m. The attitude estimation is lower than 25 degrees from the 92.4% of the adjsuted images with an average of 5.1973 degrees.
It is essential to develop a light-weight, high-performance structure for the deployable reflector antenna, which is the payload of a reconnaissance satellite, considering launch and orbital operation performance. Among them, the composite main reflector is a key component that constitutes a deployable reflector antenna. In particular, the development of a high-performance main reflector is required to acquire high-quality satellite images after agile attitude control maneuvers during satellite missions. To develop main reflector, the initial design of the main reflector was confirmed considering the structural performance according to the laminate stacking design and material properties of the composite main reflector that constitutes the deployable reflector antenna. Based on the initial design, four types of composite main reflectors were manufactured with the variable for manufacturing process. As variables for manufacturing process, the curing process of the composite structure, the application of adhesive film between the carbon fiber composite sheet and the honeycomb core, and the venting path inside the sandwich composite were selected. After manufacture main reflector, weight measurement, non-destructive testing(NDT), surface error measurement, and modal test were performed on the four types of main reflectors produced. By selecting a manufacturing process that does not apply adhesive film and includes venting path, for a composite main reflector with light weight and structural performance, we developed and verified a main reflector that can be applied to the SAR(Synthetic Aperture Rader) satellite.

In this study, a method of estimating the velocity and altitude of aircrafts photographed in a KOMPSAT-3 satellite was proposed. In the proposed method, parallax effect, which is a time offset between bands due to the photographing method of the KOMPSAT-3 satellite, the structure of the sensor, and the movement of the satellite's orbit, was calculated, and in this process, trucks running on the highway were used. In addition, the actual direction and the direction by parallax effect of the aircraft were calculated using the coordinates of the aircraft in the image, and the attitude information of the KOMPSAT-3 satellite was calculated using metadata to estimate the velocity and altitude of the aircraft. The estimated value through the proposed method was compared with the actual value, automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B), and the error rate was calculated here. As a result, it was confirmed that the velocity and altitude error rate of large aircraft (I1, I3, S2) were lower than that of light aircraft (I2, S2), and the estimated velocity and altitude were relatively high in large aircraft using the proposed method.
A numerical formula that presents relationship between a point of a satellite image and its ground position is called a sensor model. For precise geolocation of satellite images, we need an error-free sensor model. However, the sensor model based on GOES ephemeris data has some error, in particular after Image Motion Compensation (IMC) mechanism has been turned off. To solve this problem, we investigated three sensor models: collinearity model, direct linear transform (DLT) model and orbit-based model. We applied matching between GOES images and global coastline database and used successful results as control points. With control points we improved the initial image geolocation accuracy using the three models. We compared results from three sensor models. As a result, we showed that the orbit-based model is a suitable sensor model for precise geolocation of GOES-9 Images.

With precise sensor position, attitude element, and imaging resolution, a simulated geospatial image can be generated. In this study, a satellite image is simulated using SPOT ortho-image and global elevation data, and the geometric similarity between original and simulated images is analyzed. Using a SPOT panchromatic image and high-density elevation data from a 1/5K digital topographic map data an ortho-image with 10-meter resolution was produced. The simulated image was then generated by exterior orientation parameters and global elevation data (SRTM1, GDEM2). Experimental results showed that (1) the agreement of the image simulation between pixel location from the SRTM1/GDEM2 and high-resolution elevation data is above 99% within one pixel; (2) SRTM1 is closer than GDEM2 to high-resolution elevation data; (3) the location of error occurrence is caused by the elevation difference of topographical objects between high-density elevation data generated from the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and Digital Surface Model (DSM)-based global elevation data. Error occurrences were typically found at river boundaries, in urban areas, and in forests. In conclusion, this study showed that global elevation data are of practical use in generating simulated images with 10-meter resolution.
NEXTSat-1 is the next-generation small-size artificial satellite system planed by the Satellite Technology Research Center(SatTReC) in Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST). For the control of attitude and transition of the orbit, the system has adopted a RHM(Resisto-jet Head Module), which has a very simple geometry with a reasonable efficiency. An axisymmetric model is devised with two coil-resistance heaters using xenon(Xe) gas, and the minimum required specific impulse is 60 seconds under the thrust more than 30 milli-Newton. To design the module, seven basic parameters should be decided: the nozzle shape, the power distribution of heater, the pressure drop of filter, the diameter of nozzle throat, the slant length and the angle of nozzle, and the size of reservoir, etc. After quasi one-dimensional analysis, a theoretical value of specific impulse is calculated, and the optima of parameters are found out from the baseline with a series of multi-physical numerical simulations based on the compressible Navier-Stokes equations for gas and the heat conduction energy equation for solid. A commercial code, COMSOL Multiphysics is used for the computation with a FEM (finite element method) based numerical scheme. The final values of design parameters indicate 5.8% better performance than those of baseline design after the verification with all the tuned parameters. The present method should be effective to reduce the time cost of trial and error in the development of RHM, the thruster of NEXTSat-1.

Various perturbations by the sun, the moon and the earth itself cause a continuous change in nominal position of a geostationary satellite. In order to maintain the satellite within a required window, north-south station keeping for controlling inclination and right ascension of ascending node, and east-west station keeping for controlling eccentricity and longitude are required. In this paper, station keeping maneuver simulation for Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) was performed using COMS Flight Dynamics Software(FDS) and the results were analyzed. COMS performs weekly based east-west/north-south station keeping to maintain satellite within ${\pm}0.05^{\circ}$ at the nominal longitude of $128.2^{\circ}E$. In addition, COMS performs wheel off-loading maneuver twice a day to eliminate attitude error caused by one-solar wing in the south panel of the satellite. In this paper, station keeping maneuver considering wheel off-loading maneuver was performed and the results showed that COMS can be maintained well within ${\pm}0.05^{\circ}$ window using COMS FDS.
In this paper, interacting multiple model (IMM) filter was designed that guarantees a stable navigation performance even in the unstable satellite navigation position. In order to design IMM filter in INS / GPS integrated navigation system, sub filter of the IMM filter is defined as Kalman filter. In the IMM filter configuration, two subfilters are determined. Each Kalman filter defines the six-teenth state composed of position, velocity, attitude, and sensor error from the INS error equation and the states additionally derived in case of the coloured measurement noise. In order to verify the performance of the proposed filter, we compared the performance how the filter works in the presence of arbitrary error in GPS navigation solution. The Monte Carlo simulation was performed 100 times and the results were compared with the root mean square(RMS). The results show that the proposed method is stable against errors and show fast convergence.

This paper describes a multipath estimation method for Global Positioning System (GPS) dual frequency carrier phase measurements. Multipath is a major error source in high precision GPS applications, i.e., carrier phase measurements for precise positioning and attitude determinations. In order to estimate and remove multipath at carrier phase measurements, an array GPS antenna system has been used. The known geometry between the antennas is used to estimate multipath parameters. Dual frequency carrier phase measurements increase the redundancy of measurements, so it can reduce the number of antennas. The unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is recently applied to many areas to overcome some of the limitations of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) such as weakness to severe nonlinearity. This paper uses the UKF for estimating multipath parameters. A series of simulations were performed with GPS antenna arrays located on a straight line with one reflector. The geometry information of the antenna array reduces the number of estimated multipath parameters from four to three. Both the EKF and the UKF are used as estimation algorithms and the results of the EKF and the UKF are compared. When the initial parameters are far from true parameters, the UKF shows better performance than the EKF.
