Measuring and Generation the speed of reaction wheel for Spacecraft Dynamic Simulator using the T-Method (위성동역학 시뮬레이터용 T-방식을 이용한 반작용휠 속도 측정 및 펄스 생성)

  • The M-Method that measures the speed of actuator with counting the number of Reaction wheel Tacho Pulse has the many advantages such that a realization is simple and measuring time is uniform, but it also has the disadvantage that measuring speed becomes worse as the wheel speed goes lower. On the contrary, the T-Method that measures the time duration between the pulses is more accurate at lower-speed and its time delay is smaller than M-Method, but its realization is more difficult than M-Method because measuring time is varying with wheel speed variation. Thought M/T Method mixing M-Method with T-Method is widely used in order to measure the speed in the motor industrial area, one of two methods has been used in the spacecraft design area. Therefore, we try to apply both methods together to measuring the speed of Reaction Wheel, the core actuator for low earth orbit satellite. This paper provides the Reaction Wheel simulation board located in the Spacecraft Dynamic Simulator, ground support test set.

Structural test of KSLV-I Payload fairing (KSLV-I 페이로드 페어링 구조시험)

  • Payload fairing(PLF) protects satellites and related equipment from the external environment. They are separated before the satellite separation. Payload fairing made of composite sandwich materials due to their considerable bending stiffness and strength-to-weight ratio. Payload fairing have compression, shear and bending load during the flight. In this study, To check the strength of PLF and connected part, structural test of PLF accomplished using an actuator and a fixture. Purpose of structural test is to verify the strength of PLF in force of separation spring and combination structural load applied. Test result shows that the PLF have an acceptable margin of safety for the combination structural load and force of separation spring.

  • This paper describes development of a non-explosive separation device which can be equipped on small satellites. The spur geared micro DC motor, which has high reliability and advantage of price, is adopted as an actuator. The proposed separation device has resettability and it does not need extra jig to reload. In addition, the simple structure makes it easy to fabricate and assemble. To verify the performance of the proposed device, the response time tests, maximum preload tests and maximum shock level tests were performed. Also, through the vibration tests and thermal vacuum tests, feasibility of the proposed separation device was shown in launching and space environments. Therefore, we expect that the proposed separation device can replace the imported separation devices in near future.

  • This paper proposes a non-explosive separation device for the deployable SAR antenna. This device utilises a Ni-Cr wire to restrain the antenna's belt mechanism, and joule-heating is used to minimise the impact of deployment. After the Ni-Cr wire has been cut, the device is deployed through the preload of the belt mechanism. Considering the design load(99g) and preload conditions, FEM analysis for AL7050 and Ti was performed. This analysis revealed that the amount of deformation for AL7050 was 0.256 mm with a margin of +0.09. In addition, by performing orbital thermal analysis, the temperature distribution for AL7050 in the worst cold case is confirmed as -50 to +2℃ and -10 to +90℃ in the worst hot case. This analysis confirmed that the separation device would remain stable even in the worst environment.
