A Study on the Pharmacology of Sasang Constitutional Medicine (사상의학(四象醫學) 약리(藥理)에 관한 문헌적(文獻的) 고찰(考察))

Objects of Research This research is purposed to find Dong-mu's thought on Pharmacology, through summarizing sentences related to pharmacology proposed in the chief writings on Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2. Methods of Research It was researched bibliologically with Dong-mu's chief medical writings such as "Dongyi Suse Bowon Sasang Chobongyun(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷)", "Dong-mu's posthumos work(東武遺藁)", "Dongyi Suse Bowon(東醫壽世保元)". 3. Results and Conclusions 1. The grouping criteria according to the constitution proposed in "Dongyi Suse Bowon Sasang Chobongyun" is 'Spreading Outside' 'Hardening Inside' 'Cooling Organ' 'Warming Inside', but the grouping of medical herbs according to the constitution is yet not accomplished, and medical herbs is comprehended on base of effectiveness as like existing oriental medicine. 2. The grouping criteria according to the constitution proposed in "Dong-mu's posthumos work"is 'Spreading Choking Raising Lowering' and 'Perfume Smell Fluid Taste', and medical herbs is comprehended on base of effectiveness as like "Chobongyun", and the example on mixing of the herb classified according to the constitution is showed. 3. The medical herbs are comprehended on the basis of how to effect on treatment of constitutional disease, and the principle that it's not to mix of the herb classified according to the constitution is proposed in "Dongyi Suse Bowon". 4. The pharmacology of Sasang Constitutional Medicine is accomplished after it is modified many ti mes through clinic experience for a long time. 5. The pharmacology of Sasang Constitutional Medicine in the early period, is to comprehend herbs on the basis of how to complement 'Spreading Gathering Raising Lowering' of 'Small-Organ(偏小之臟)' according 'Qi-Mei(氣味)' and effectiveness, but that in the late period is to comprehend herbs on the basis of how to complement or to control 'Small-Organ(偏小之臟)' and 'Large Organ(偏大之臟)'.

  • 1. Objectives The incidence of Gallbladder(GB) cancer is increasing through out the world. And the death rate of GB cancer is highest compared with other kinds of cancers. We treated Stage IV GB canter with lung metastasised patient with Sasang constitutional medicine. 2. Methods We fellowed up the changes of Symptoms and QOL. 3. Results The symptoms and quality of lift(QOL) of Stage IV GB cancer with both lung metastasis patient are improved markedly by Sasang constitutional medicine. 4. Conclusions The symptoms of GB cancer with both Lung mets were effectively managed through the constitutional treatment So we report the healing process and result of this patient in this study.

A Clinical Case Study of Yin Exhausted Syndrome in Two Soyangin Patients (소양인(少陽人) 망음증(亡陰證) 환자의 치험(治驗) 2례)

  • 1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to give an account of the effects of Korean herbal medicine therapy which is based on Sasang constitutional medicine for two patients who were suffering from Yin Exhausted Syndrome. 2. Mothods Patients were diagnosed as having Soyangin Yin Exhausted Syndromes by Physical characteristics, posture, and symptoms and were evaluated with an interview and laboratory test after Sasang constitutional medication. 3. Result After the Sasang constitutional medications of Hyungbangsabek-san(荊防瀉白散), Hyungbangjihwang-tang(荊防地黃湯), Juhryungchajunja-tang(猪笭車前子湯), Shihochungjang-tang(柴胡淸腸湯) were used diarrhea and other symptoms were improved. 4. Conclusions These case studies show an efficient result of using Sasang traditional medicine in the treatment of Yin Exhausted Syndrome.

  • Objectives This study aimed to provide a basis for treatment of soeum person by analysing published case reports and case series in Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine.Methods We have reviewed case reports and case series of soeum person in the Journal of Sasang Medicine from 2006 to 2015.Results Of the Twenty-four papers, reporting were reported in twenty-four papers. A total of 13 interventions were described, of which herbal medicine (100%) was most frequently used. Twenty-four papers reported herbal medicine, of which Palmulgunjatang (25%) was most frequently used. A total of 24 Sasang Constitutional Medicine pattern were used in 24 papers, for which soeum person kidney heat affection induced exterior heat disease depression frantic syndrome (25%) was most frequently used.Conclusions A sufficient number of clinical studies are warranted to provide a clinical basis for treatment of soeum person.

  • Introduction The aim of this study was to report significant improvement of Dyshidrosis(Pompholyx) patient who was diagnosed with 'Soyangin chest-bind symptomatic pattern' based on Sasang Constitutonal medicine. Methods The patient was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, as well as western medicine. To evaluate the results of this treatment, the patient assessed discomfort of dyshidrosis by using Numeral Rating Scale(NRS), percentage(%) and we assessed severity of dyshidrosis by using Dyshidrotic Eczema Area and Severity Index(DASI). Results At the time of admission, the degree of discomfort in the dyshidrosis symptoms was NRS 8 and the severity of dyshidrosis was DASI 16(moderate). After the treatment, her symptoms was improved(NRS 0, DASI 0). Sleep, digestion and defecation condition were also improved. Discussion The patient who had frequent recurrence showed a significant improvement of dyshidrosis and accessory symptoms without any side effects, who was treated with Hyeongbangdojeok-san, acupuncture and western medicine.

  • Background and Objective : The status of development of instruments to assess the 'health status' reflecting the concept of Sasang Constitutional Medicine is still far from satisfaction, despite their importance in building basic data for health promotion, evaluation of effectiveness of treatment, health policy and so on. for these reasons the health scale of Sasang Constitutional Medicine shod be developed. Therefore as from of preliminary research, this study is to review the concept of health and symptoms in health status in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Methods : It was researched as bibliologically with Dong-mu's chief medical writings such as ${\ulcorner}Dongyi$ Soose $Bowon{\lrcorner}$(東醫壽世保元)${\ulcorner}Dongyi$ Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷)${\lrcorner}$ - Results and conclusion : 1. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it is suggested that Inherent vitality(命脈實數) has relations to health and Knowledge-Acting(知行) is a primary factor which affects health. And it is thought that Healthy condition(完實無病) is that human being has enough Healthy energy(保命之主) of Small viscera. 2. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it is thought that stool, urine, sweating and digestion become important indexes to measure the physical health state. 3. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it is thought that the mental health is in control of inclination of mind by golden mean(中庸) and in tranquillity of constant mind according to constitution. 4. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, it is thought that the social health is state thar can do social acting harmoniously by keeping away from alcohol, sexual appetite, property and power.

  • Objectives The aim of this study was to examine significant improvement of dizziness, gait disturbance, insomnia and xerostomia after treatment with Jowisengcheong-tang in a Taeeumin patient with olivopontocerebellar atrophy (OPCA). Methods The patient's subjective and objective symptoms were observed daily throughout the hospitalization period using global assessment (G/A), and the Unified Multiple System Atrophy Rating Scale (UMSARS) was used to assess the overall function of patient. Results The symptoms of dizziness and xerostomia decreased from G/A 100 to G/A 10~30 for five days, and the UMSARS score decreased in Part I,II. Conclusions This case showed that Sasang constitutional medicine treatment can be effective treatment method for OPCA. We consider that consistent treatment can contribute to improve the patient's quality of life.

  • 1. Objectives This case is to report that a Soyangun patient with Dizziness treated by Soyangin's Contitutional medications-Dojuckkangki-tang(導赤降氣湯). 2. Methods This patient was treated by several Constitutional medications (導赤降氣湯-地黃白虎湯-荊芳地黃湯) and acupuncture treatment according to the result of Sasang Constitutional diagnosis with western medical management. We used Visual analogue scale(VAS) for the assessment of dizziness. 3. Results and Conclusions This patient's chief complaints was dizziness. So he was treated by Soyangin's Constitutional medications (especially Dojukkangki-tang) and showed a positive response about his symptom. But then we consider that studies about that case like this are more needed.

  • Objective In this study, we report significant improvement of edema patient who was diagnosed with Soyang person chest bind syndrome/pattern based on Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Methods The patient was identified as Soyang person chest bind syndrome/pattern and treated with Hyeongbangjihwang-tang-ga-moktong and Euphorbiae Kansui. Radix(Gam-sui). To evaluate the results of this treatment, the patient assessed edema by using the Numeral Rating Scale(NRS). Result and Conclusion After treatment with Hyeongbangjihwang-tang-ga-moktong and Euphorbiae Kansui. Radix(Gam-sui), patient's symptms were improved. This study shows that Sasang Constituitional medicine can be effective treatment for edema.

  • Gyolhyungjeung is typical in soyangin and occur when Pyo and Li are all out of balance. The patient was treated with Dojukganggi-tang and showed improvement. This report is to describe the process and contents about the way the patient got the disease and cured.
