Physical Modeling of a Sanjo Gayageum (산조 가야금의 물리적 모델링)

  • In this paper we developed the Physical modeling of the Sanio Gayageum using the improved digital waveguide theory. The frequency characteristics of the Gayageum body is implemented by an inverse filtering and the impulse response of the body. We obtained the synthesis sounds of the unit sound for the Gayageum using the simulation of the straight-line fits by the changes of the fundamental frequencies depending on the Amok location. Finally. we could obtain the virtual Sanio Gayageum sounds similar to the actual Gayageum by tuning the Amok positions.

  • In this paper, we improve a Physical modeling of sanio gayageum and synthesize sounds by right-hand playing styles. Parameters of loop filter are estimated from decay region of recorded sound. That results in improved accuracy and reduction of computational costs. Body is implemented to a resonator which has characteristics of main resonances extracted from impulse response. Residual signal with main resonances removed is used as excitation signal of proposed model. Amok alter is approximated to frequency response of amok and is implemented to the 15th order all-role digital filter. Beating (by middle and index finger) among the right-hand playing styles is represented by feedforward comb filter. Parameters of this filter are extracted from recorded sound. The synthesized sounds using improved physical model of sanjo gayageum. plucking and beating, are pretty similar to original sounds.

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 산조가야금의 음을 합성하여 아두이노(Arduino)와 DSP(Digital Signal Processor)를 이용한 물리적 모델링 기반의 현 없는 산조 가야금을 구현한다. 아두이노는 저렴한 가격에 마이크로컨트롤러를 효율적으로 제어하며, DSP는 높은 분해능과 빠른 A/D변환 기능을 지원하여 복잡한 음 합성 연산의 빠른 처리를 만족시킨다. 또한 기존 가야금의 복잡한 연주법을 초보자도 쉽게 다루기 위해 가야금의 현을 대신해 터치 패널을 사용한다. 본 논문에서는 기본적인 I/O동작은 아두이노 MEGA 2560보드를, 음 합성의 복잡한 연산을 위해 CCSv5(Code Composer Studio) 툴과 DSP칩을 내장한 DSK5510 보드를 이용하여 기능을 검증한다. 모의실험 결과 현 없는 가야금의 합성음은 기존의 음과 매우 유사하였으며, 초보자도 쉽게 제어하고 연주가 가능한 환경을 구현하였다.

  • 산조 가야금의 경우 몸체의 뒷판에 세 개의 구멍(공명혈)이 있다. 이 구멍은, 몸체를 일정한 부피를 가진 용기로 보았을 때, 그 용기의 입구의 단면적, 다시 말해, 헬름홀츠 공진기 (Helmholtz Resonator) 입구의 단면적과 같다. 본 논문에서는 이 공명혈의 역할을 알아보기 위해, 1) 우선 기성의 산조 가야금 몸체의 세 공명혈을 모두 막은 상태, 일부만 막은 상태, 열려있는 상태에서의 몸체의 충격응답 전달함수를 측정, 분석하여 개략적으로 알아보았고, 이어서 2) 뒷판에 구멍이 전혀 없는 실험용의 산조 가야금 몸체의 제작을 의뢰하여, 뒷판 중앙에 구멍을 점차적으로 넓게 뚫어가면서, 각 단계별로 몸체의 충격응답을 측정하여, 구멍의 크기와 몸체의 충격응답 전달특성 변화 간의 상관관계를 분석 해보았다.

  • Korean traditional music has been a process art which has been changed and re-created by musicians to mirror the musical aesthetics of contemporary people. Form court music, which has tried to keep the "authentic" form as much as possible, to folk music, which is closely associated to the people's life style, traditional music has expressed the life of the Korean people. From the early 20th century, traditional music faced a totally new music culture due to the Japanese annexation and rapid westernization. A new music network was established by modern theater and broadcast system. Many gayageum (12-stringed zither) masters were able to develop their own music in this new music culture. Female musicians came to exist because of a new music education system, called gwonbeon (school for female entertainers). Due to the rapid westernization, traditional music was becoming 'extinct'. The government's new system of Intangible Cultural Heritage tried to preserve traditional culture. Traditional music came to revive but became fossilized in order to preserve the 'archetype'. The so-called Living Human Treasures took power and became a social problem. The modern school education system was one of major factors for promotion of traditional music. However, it became one of main reasons for musicians to lose their musical creativity. Today, many performers and composers try to make a new composition and renovated musical instruments to suit the contemporary musical aesthetics.

  • In this study, I investigated physiology and pathology of the kidney and then researched deficiency of the kidney-nourishing the Eum music therapy to apply for clinical use, because symptoms such as chronic fatigue, morbus asthenia, anxiety, dizziness, tinnitus, and amnesia are prevalent in our modern societies. These symptoms are due to deficiency of the kidney. The kidney stores vital essence and has a function to keep activities as motive power. If the kidney is abnormal in storing the essence and holding Gi, various symptoms like dizziness, tinnitus, amnesia are caused by deficiency of the kidney. In deficiency of the kidney-nourishing the Eum music therapy, Water-Gi music which can store the essence is mainly used. In case of patients with deficiency of the kidney, dizziness, tinnitus, and amnesia, we can make use of NO.3, BWV 1068, Air of J.S.Bach and Jinyangjo of Geomungo. If there are flaring-up and fidgetiness due to deficiency of vital essence, Earth-Gi music that can help the vigor of spleen and stomach should be used prior to Water-Gi music. In the concrete, Hahyeondodeuri of Yeongsanhoesang played on Geomungo can be used. The tinnitus is caused by wind-heat and fire in the gallbladder. It is good to nourish the Eum through Water-Gi music after dispelling pathogens through Jajinmori among Gayageum sanjo.
