Cambodia's Sangha and Its Relationship with the State (캄보디아의 승가와 국가)

  • The state-sangha relations in the countries of Theravada Buddhism has often been described as a mutually dependent patron-client relation in which the state and the sangha support each other by performing their due roles. Yet this theory involves a normative dimension that prescribes such a relation as the ideal in the Buddhist world. The explanatory power of this theory hence is hampered in a country where the ideal is not fully realized. In the wake of tumultuous political upheaval where political rivals vie for the state the ideal as well as the theory are put into a trial. The tragic history of modern Cambodia is a history of ceaseless conflict in which multiple contenders for the state had to define their relations with the sangha. The relations defined turned out less mutual than supposed. The state-sangha relations were rather unilaterally dependent. More often than not the sangha was subject to state control with no power to confront the state or coopted only to become a tool for political propaganda and manipulation. The sangha always played the role of client, waiting for the state to define the relation and to be benevolent. Even when the monks were forced to disrobe and when the sangha itself was annihilated, all they did was to wait for another patron state that would put the sangha back in place. The state-sangha relations the Cambodian history reveals were not close to one in which the two parties benefit each other on an equal basis. It was a patron-client relationship in which the client sangha had to be heavily dependent on the patron state. Such a unilaterally dependent relationship is the one that has prevailed in Cambodia.

The Beginnings of the Sudhamma Buddhist Order of Monks

  • This article uncovers the beginning of the Sudhamma Buddhist order tracing its background history. After ascending the throne, being interested in trying to bring back Buddhism to its ancient strength and prosperity, King Mindon paid fully attention in all the religious affairs like King Asoka. Therefore, the different Sangha associations had emerged in his time. It had grown wider and wider and that brought about many adverse effects. During the time of King Thibaw, to reorganize the Sangha associations, he appointed two Supreme Leaders; one for Sudhamma and one for the Rhwekyan Buddhist Order of Monks. Thus the rise of the term of Sudhamma Buddhist Order of Monks became the most popular among the Theravada Buddhist monks. This article, tracing its history, will answer the question that what about any difference between the Sudhamma Buddhist Order and others especially?

  • It is not an exaggeration to say that our society is already one of disputes. Since circa 2010, the average number of lawsuits filed every year is upwards of six million cases, and resolving disputes through trials is already fully saturated. The functional roles of the court reflect that there are many lacking areas such as systems, tools, and procedures related to social integration. In addition, ADR, which is carried out in advanced capitalist nations to supplement the judicial functions, has also been implemented in our society for the past 60 years. However, for the reason why the usage rate of ADR did not increase for legal consumers, we cannot overlook government activities that did not make sufficient promotions related to the lack of awareness. In Korea, ADR is mainly composed of government-initiated types, and in particular, there is no ADR framework act that can play an integrated role. Furthermore, for the conciliation system of the court, over 80%of conciliation are conducted focusing on court of lawsuits, and legal basis and procedures between institutes are different for administrative ADR, and communication does not go smoothly, thus making it inefficient. Such examples cannot avoid being a background for criticism when considering the fundamental ideologies and beliefs of ADR. The Vinaya Pitaka of sangha related to ADR is a separate method for operating communities. This is the BDR (Buddhist Dispute Resolution) method that encompasses personal ethics, organizational ethics, harmony through various community gatherings, and adhikaranasamatha on the four issues that could occur in legal review procedures. This has become the sufficient background for succession and development for parisa sangha and gana sangha among individuals.

Gwon Sangha's Theory of Mind-Nature (수암 권상하의 심성론)

  • Researches about the Horaknonjaeng(湖洛論爭) have succeeded by focusing on the Osangnonbyeon(五常論辨)?Mibalnonbyeon(未發論辨). In a way of these researches, philosophic thought of Gwon Sangha(權尙夏) is dealt in a comparison and in that process his philosophic thought seems to be known. However, these researches are treating several thoughts so it is difficult to find accurately what point describes the position of his thought in the korean confucian thought as origin of Hohak(湖學). In this paper, therefore, I examine Gwon Sangha's theory of mind-nature by focusing on the understanding the concept of mind-nature in Hansujaejib(寒水齋集) and find its position in history of thought as an origin of forming Hohak. Before 1709, Horaknonjaeng don't break out, Gwan Sangha had been formed that Inmulseongsangi(人物性相異) of Osangpyeonjeon(五常偏全) based on the understanding of the fact that ensuring of Bonyeonjiseong(本然之性 性善) in Gijiljiseong(氣質之性) and under this influence scholars of Hohak formed thoughts and insisted Osangpyeonjeon(五常偏全 人物性相異) during Horaknonjaeng. In the point of Simseongilmul(心性一物) focusing on nature, he didn't admit the Jujaeseong(主宰性) of mind. This is the efforts of finishing the controversy of Simseongigi(心性二岐) and the efforts of finding the relation between Simseon(心善). Such thoughts are set before the Horaknonjaeng and basing on these influences, scholars of Hohak formed their thoughts and insisted the Gibulyongsa(氣不用事 未發氣質有善惡).

Forming and Developing Rural Neo-Confucian Literati after Gweon, Sangha's Move to Hwang-gang (권상하(權尙夏)의 황강(黃江) 이주를 계기로 한 재지사족(在地士族)의 형성과 발전)

  • Rural Neo-Confucian Literati were major governing elite in Joseon Dynasty. They were small and medium-sized landowners all over the country and elite having Confucian knowledge. They formed villages of the same family name and exerted their influence on the community showing off their successful ancestors. Therefore, there were lots of examples that they took the actual leadership in local communities. In this sense, the Hwacheon-gun pa family line of the Andong Kweon clan were the representative rural neo-Confucian literati of Hwang-gang and Shindong areas in Jecheon. This group was formed after Kweon Sangha and his brothers' movement in 1675. Kweon was the best pupil of Song Siyeol, a prominent scholar and man of power. Although facing away the government examination, he was respected as sallim, rustic literati, on account of his teaching and writing activities and later called to High State Councillor. After his death, memorial halls and facilities to worship him, including Hwang-gang Sowon Academy, were built in the place he taught students. These facilities contributed to his descendants' acquiring his life values. They also made a contribution to the settlement of reject-heterodoxy sentiments based on their loyalty to the Myeong Dynasty in the area. Kweon Seop, Kweon Sangha's nephew, also played an important role in Hwacheon-gun pa family line's growing as rural neo-Confucian literati in Jecheon area. He built memorial halls to enshrine Kweon Sangha and made rules to develop his family line. In addition, he extended their living space over Hwang-gang area and each place had the shrine to hold a memorial service for their ancestors. As a result, Kweon Sangha and Kweon Seop's family wielded power in Jecheon for hundreds years as the same family name group. Rural neo-Confucian literati didn't produce more elite government officials than the groups in the capital, but their growth enabled cultural development of the local community and the Joseon Dynasty.

  • 지식베이스의 목표는 세상의 모든 지식을 데이터베이스화 하는 것이지만 지식 획득 능력의 부족으로 항상 지식 부족 문제에 시달린다. 지식 획득은 주로 웹 상에 있는 자연언어문장을 지식화 하는 외부적인 지식 획득을 통해 이루어지지만, 지식베이스 내부에서 지식을 확장해 나가는 방법에 대해서는 연구가 소홀히 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 내부적인 지식 획득을 위한 지식베이스 행렬 분해 모델을 소개한다. 본 논문에서 소개하는 방법은 지식베이스를 행렬로 변환한 뒤 행렬 분해 모델을 통해 새로운 지식에 대한 신뢰도를 점수화하는 방법이다. 본 논문에서 소개한 방법의 우수성과 실효성을 입증하기 위해 한국어 지식베이스인 한국어 디비피디아(2016-10)를 대상으로 본 모델의 정확도 측정 실험 결과를 소개한다.

  • 본 논문은 한국어 어휘 의미망인 코어넷(CoreNet)을 활용한 비지도학습 방식의 한국어 어의 중의성 해소(Word Sense Dsiambiguation)에 대한 연구이다. 어의 중의성 해소의 실질적인 응용을 위해서는 합리적인 수준으로 의미 후보를 나눌 필요성이 있다. 이를 위해 동형이의어와 코어넷의 개념체계를 활용하여 의미 후보를 나누어서 진행하였으며 이렇게 나눈 것이 실제 활용에서 의미가 있음을 실험을 통해 보였다. 접근 방식으로는 문맥 속에서 서로 영향을 미치는 어휘의 의미들을 동시에 고려하여 중의성 해소를 할 수 있도록 마코프랜덤필드와 의존구조 분석을 바탕으로 한 지식 기반 모델을 사용하였다. 이 과정에서도 코어넷의 개념체계를 활용하였다. 이 방식을 통해 임의의 모든 어휘에 대해 중의성 해소를 하도록 직접 구축한 데이터 셋에 대하여 80.9%의 정확도를 보였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 Reified 트리플 추출을 위한 한국어 개방형 정보추출 방법을 제시한다. 시맨틱웹 분야에서 지식은 흔히 RDF 트리플 형태로 표현되지만, 자연언어문장은 복수개의 서술어와 논항간의 관계로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 이유로, 시맨틱웹의 대표적인 지식표현법인 트리플을 따름과 동시에 문장의 의존구조를 반영하여 복수개의 술어와 논항간의 관계를 지식화하는 새로운 개방형 정보추출 시스템이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 문장 구조에 대한 일관성있는 변환을 고려한 새로운 개방형 정보추출 방법을 제안하며, 개체중심의 지식과 사건중심의 지식을 함께 표현할 수 있는 Reified 트리플 추출방법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방법의 우수성과 실효성을 입증하기 위해 한국어 위키피디아 알찬글 본문을 대상으로 추출된 지식의 양과 정확도 측정 실험을 수행하였고, 본 논문에서 제안한 방식을 응용한 의사 SPARQL 질의 생성 모듈에 대해 소개한다.

  • 본 논문에서서는 질의응답 시스템을 위한 자연언어 질의 이해를 위하여 프레임 시멘틱스 기반 의미 분석방식을 제안한다. 지식베이스에 의존적인 질의 이해는 지식베이스의 불완전성에 의해 충분한 정보를 분석하지 못한다는 점에 착안하여, 질의의 술부-논항구조 및 그 의미에 대한 분석을 수행하여 자연언어 질의에서 나타난 정보들을 충분히 파악하고자 하였다. 본 시스템은 자연언어 질의를 입력으로 받아 이를 프레임 시멘틱스의 구조에 기반하여 기계가 읽을 수 있는 임의의 RDF 표현방식의 모형 쿼리를 생성한다.
