The new core making method economizing the amount of core sand has been requested. The new method is that a core box is heated until it reaches reasonable temperature and then core sand with core binder is sprayed into the core box. Since inner temperature distribution have to be uniform in order to form uniform thickness of core, we studied inner temperature distribution of core box. First, we determined proper number of torches and optimized torch positions to minimize the average of absolute deviation(AVEDEV) of inner temperature. The results are as fellowed: 1. The number of torches that enables uniform inner temperature distribution about $300^{\circ}C$ is 25. 2. When $S_H$ and $S_V$ is 0.7, the torch positions are optimized and AVEDEV is 5.85.

In this research, mainly research about the structural and functional stability of sea dyke with variation of seepage condition after final closure. The piezometric head (water head in embankment) monitoring system was installed at two representative final closure section. The dredged fine sand filling condition was evaluated by in-situ test results. Also, the numerical analysis was performed to determine the permeability of bottom protection layer filled with dredged fine sand by monitoring results. According to numerical back analysis results, the coefficient of permeability of bottom protection section of is $7.6{\times}10^{-6}$ m/sec. These results are noted that the bottom protection layer of sea dyke was strong and intensively filled with dredged sand. Also, based on the seepage analysis, the seepage flux of this sea dyke was calculated about $2.42m^3$/day/m which is 29% decreased value compare with adjacent sea dyke.

An integrated sediment management approach that includes the recovery of the amount of declined sediment supply is effective as a fundamental solution to coastal erosion. During planning, it is essential to analyze the transfer mechanism of the sediments generated from estuaries (the junction between a river and sea) to assess the amount and rate of sediment discharge (from the river to sea) supplied back to the coast. Although numerical models that interpret the tidal sand bar flushing process during flooding have been studied, thus far, there has been no study focusing on the formation and development processes of tidal sand bars. Therefore, this study aims to construct wave deformation, flow regime calculation, and topographic change analysis models to assess the amount of recovered sediment discharge and reproduce the tidal sand bar formation process through numerical analysis for integrated littoral drift management. The tidal sand bar formation process was simulated, and the wave energy and duration of action concepts were implemented to predict the long-term littoral movement. The river flux and wave conditions during winter when tidal sand bars dominantly develop were considered as the external force conditions required for calculation. The initial condition of the topographic data directly after the Maeupcheon tidal sand bar flushing during flooding was set as the initial topography. Consequently, the tidal sand bar formation and development due to nearshore currents dependent on the incident wave direction were reproduced. Approximately 66 h after the initial topography, a sand bar formation was observed at the Maengbang estuary.

Recently, in the light of environments and utilization, countermeasures to preserve beaches in coastal area are required without depending on such as jetties and breakwaters. The necessity of integrated sand management including not only coastal sediment but also sediment discharge from hinterland rivers is increased so as to establish long-term counterplan for sediment transport. In this regard, the following subjects are examined in this study; efficient ways for discharged sand to be transported from a river to the neighboring coast, the river terrace occurrence and its growth at the river delta, measures to improve storage efficiency of the discharged sand and measures to prevent the sand resources from being discharged into the deep sea during flooding. In recent, A jetty of 260 m length was constructed at Namdae River mouth in the year of 2005 as a countermeasure against the occurrence of sand-bar at river mouth and its close. In this study, a series of numerical experiments were carried out to investigate the characteristics of sediment transport and morphological change due to the construction of jetty at the entrance of Namdae River mouth. Firstly, The sand discharge from Namdae River is quantified by one-dimensional numerical analysis assuming the mixed sand of three different particle diameters. Then, in order to understand the transport behavior of the sand discharge from river and river mouth phenomena the numerical experiments were then conducted to examine the flow behaviors of river efflux and wind generated circulations in coastal area. And, after establishing the numerical model system, which predicts the sea bed changes obtained from the flux model combining with the wave propagation, wave-induced currents and sediment transport models, the sediment transport in the vicinity of Namdae River mouth is analyzed.
The application of the membrane filtration process has been increased for the drinking water treatment system because of excellent quality of treated water compared with the sand filtration process. The selection of suitable pre-treatment processes and optimum flux according to the characteristics of raw water are important factors for the design of membrane processes. In this study, the most efficient pre-treatment processes for drinking water was selected by investigating the effects of pre-treatment processes on the operational stability of the membrane filtration process. Both lab-scale and pilot-scale experiments were conducted. In the lab-scale test, the effect of pre-treatment processes on the stability of the membrane filtration process was investigated indirectly by comparing the performance of membrane flux for raw water, pre-treated water, and membrane permeated water. In the pilot-scale test, the usefulness of prefiltration processes was assessed by comparing the performance of single membrane process and hybrid coagulation-membrane process. The results indicated that the coagulation process contributed to the stabilization of trans-membrane pressure (TMP) by removing contaminants on membranes, though the pre-filtration process had little effect on the TMP.
Abundant growth of algae in raw water sources caused by eutrophication brings about significant side effects on water supply, such as taste and order problem, oxygen depletion, toxic material secretion, and filter clogging problem in water treatment process, etc. The purpose of this research is to remove the algae and phosphorus compounds in the Pal-dang reservoir promptly by using the upflow filtration system with coagulant addition. The filter tower consisted of sand media and sieve filter with air back-washing process. By using coagulation and filtration with $132{\mu}m$ pore size filter, about 55% and 70% of algae and phosphorus compounds were removed respectively. The experimental conditions were as follows; head loss of 0.2m, linear velocity of 200m/day, and filtration flux of 1000($L/m^2/day$). In the case of filtration with cartridge type filter of $25{\mu}m$ pore size, the filtration flux was about 7800 LMH, and the removal ratios of COD, SS, T-P, and Chlo-a. were 61%, 99%, 54%, and 98%, respectively. However, high pressure air back-washing process with should be required for the maintenance of such high filtration flux.

Heat transfer characteristics of evaporative transpiration cooling was investigated experimentally in the range of coolant mass flux, 0.002kg/m$^{2}$.sec~0.015m$^{2}$.sec. Glass beads, sand and copper particles were used as porous media and distilled water was used as a conant. The existence of evaporation zone was confirmed on this experimental conditions and its length increases with increasing article size and with decreasing mass flux. In order to get the low surface temperature, porous materials with high thermal conductivity is preferred when the panicle sizes are same, and small particles with low porosity is effective in case of the same material. Due to the relatively small coolant mass flux, evaporative transpiration cooling system could be stable by the capillary effect.

MF membrane element was specially designed for water purification and VSA process which can solve the fouling problem. Especially VSA process is developed for the SK Chemicals' asymmetric microfiltration hollow fiber membranes. In case of outside-to-in filtration process, MF membrane element showed the excellent flux stability caused by cleaning ability of VSA process . Simultaneous back-washing with VSA consideratbly enhances cleaning efficiency. From the result the possibility of the replacement of chemical coagulation and sand filtration process with newly developed VSA process was revealed.

This research is aimed to investigate the relationship of the effective wind velocity and the morphological change in coastal dune at Sindu-ri in Korea. Sediment flux was estimated by the measurement of elevation change along eight transects deployed in the study area from July 1999 to July 2000. The results of this study indicated that. first. based on the occurrence of morphological change and winds effective for sand movement. two distinct seasons were identified: a season of deposition and that of erosion. During the depositional season, spanning from November to April, effective winds were dominant and sand accumulation occurred mainly in foredunes and sequentially in dune plains. During the erosional season, from May through October, volume change was small and erosion or sand loss occurred mostly at the dunefoot of foredunes. Secondly, the research revealed that the sediment budget of Sindu coastal dune turned out to be surplus on the whole, but there are some regional differences. Deficit budgets were observed partly in secondary dunes. The utmost northern part of Sindu coastal dune was provided with abundant sand, whereas the central and northern parts were poorly supplied.
