The infrared signature of a ship is largely influenced by the ocean environment of the operating area, which has been known to cause large changes in the signature. As a result, the weather condition has to be clearly set for an analysis of the infrared signatures. It is necessary to analyze meteorological data for all the oceans where the ship is supposed to be operated. This is impossibly costly and time consuming because of the huge size of the data. Therefore, the creation of a standard environmental variable for an infrared signature research is necessary. In this study, we compared and analyzed sampling methods to represent ocean data close to the Korean peninsula. In order to perform this research, we collected ocean meteorological records from KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration), and sampled these in numerous ways considering five variables that are known to affect the infrared signature. Specifically, a simple random sampling method for all the data and 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D stratified sampling methods were compared and analyzed by considering the mean square errors for each method.

Two-dimensional(2-D) radar images, namely, ISAR images from a maneuvering target include unwanted phase errors due to the target's motion. These phase errors make ISAR images to be blurred. The ISAR autofocus technique is required in order to remove these unwanted phase errors. Unless those unwanted phase errors produced by the target's motion are removed prior to target identification, we cannot expect a reliable target identification performance. In this paper, we use the entropy-based ISAR autofocus technique which consists of two steps: range alignment and phase adjustment. We analyze a relationship between the number of sampling point and a image quality in a range alignment algorithm and also analyze a technique for reducing computation time of the SSA(Stage-by-Stage Approachng) algorithm in a phase adjustment.

This paper discusses the methods for reducing the sampling time quantization errors of the body dither type ring laser gyroscope. A ring laser gyroscope has the angle quantization error which is generated by the frequency counting method of the laser beat signal and sampling time quantization error which is generated by the demodulation method for eliminating the body dithering in which the sampling periods are fitted to the dither periods. Generally, because the dither periods are longer than the calculation periods of the inertial navigation system, vehicle navigation errors are produced by long time attitude update missing during the vehicle move with a high dynamical motion. In this paper, the double demodulation method is proposed for reducing the sampling time quantization error and its effects under the dynamic situation are confirmed by simulation.
The Korean bottom trawl survey has been deployed on a regular basis for about the last decade as part of groundfish stock assessments. The regularity indicates that they sample groundfish once per grid cell whose sides are half of one latitude and that of one longitude, respectively, and whose inside is furthermore divided into nine nested grids. Unless they have a special reason (e.g., running into a rocky bottom), their sample location is at the center grid of the nine nested grids. Given data collected by the survey, we intended to show how to appropriately estimate not only the survey index of a fish stock but also its uncertainty. For the regularity reason, we applied the systematic sampling theory for the above purposes and compared its results with a reference, which was based on the simple random sampling. When using the survey data about 11 fish stocks, collected by the spring and fall surveys in 2014, the survey indices of those stocks estimated under the systematic sampling were overall more precise than those under the simple random sampling. In estimates of the survey indices in number, the standard errors of those estimates under the systematic sampling were reduced from those under the simple random sampling by 0.23~27.44%, while in estimates of the survey indices in weight, they decreased by 0.04~31.97%. In bias of the estimates, the systematic sampling was the same as the simple random sampling. Our paper is first in formally showing how to apply the systematic sampling theory to the actual data collected by the Korean bottom trawl surveys.
Of the experiments to shorten NMR measuring time by sparse sampling, non-uniform sampling (NUS) is advantageous. NUS miminizes systematic errors which arise due to the lack of samplings by randomization. In this study, I report the real-time acquisition of 3D NMR data using NUS and maximum-entropy (MaxEnt) data processing. The real-time acquisition combined with NUS can reduce NMR measuring time much more. Compared with multidimensional decomposition (MDD) method, which was originally suggested by Jaravine and Orekhov (JACS 2006, 13421-13426), MaxEnt is faster at least several times and more suitable for the realtime acquisition. The designed sampling schedule of current study makes all the spectra during acquisition have the comparable resulting resolutions by MaxEnt. Therefore, one can judge the quality of spectra easily by examining the intensities of peaks. I report two cases of 3D experiments as examples with the simulated subdataset from experimental data. In both cases, the spectra having good qualitie for data analysis could be obtained only with 3% of original data. Its corresponding NMR measuring time was 8 minutes for 3D HNCO of ubiquitin.

The most effective means of evaluating remaining life is through the creep testing of samples removed from the component. But sampling of large specimen from in-service component is actually impossible. So, sampling device and small-specimen creep tester have been applied. Sampling device has been devised to extract mechanically small samples by hemispherical, diamond -coated cutter from the surface of turbine rotor bores and thick-walled pipes without subsequent weld repairs requiring post weld heat treatment. A method of manufacturing small creep specimen, 2min gage diameter and 10min gage length, using electron beam welding to attach grip section, has been proven. Small-specimen creep tester has been designed to control atmosphere to prevent stress increment by oxidation during experiment. To determine whether the small specimens successfully reproduce the behavior of large specimens, creep rupture tests for small and large specimens have been performed at identical conditions. Creep rupture times based on small specimens have closely agreed within 5% error compared with that of large specimen. The errors in rupture time have decreased at longer test period. This comparison validates the procedure for fabricating and testing on small specimen. This technique offers potential as an efficient method for remaining life assessment by direct sampling from in -service high temperature components.
It is well known that an OFDM receiver is vulnerable to synchronization errors. Despite fine estimations used in the initial acquisition, there are still residual synchronization errors. Though these errors are very small, they severely degrade the bit error rate (BER) performance. In this paper, we propose a residual error elimination scheme for the digital OFDM baseband receiver aiming to improve the overall BER performance. Three improvements on existing schemes are made: a pilot-aided recursive algorithm for joint estimation of the residual carrier frequency and sampling time offsets; a delay-based timing error correction technique, which smoothly adjusts the incoming data stream without resampling disturbance; and a decision-directed channel gain update algorithm based on recursive least-squares criterion, which offers faster convergence and smaller error than the least-mean-squares algorithms. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme works well in the multipath channel, and its performance is close to that of an OFDM system with perfect synchronization parameters.
Classification errors are included in sampling -with -re-placement model where items are sampled from a Bernoulli process. Bayesian imperfect inspection model is considered. In addition con-jugate prior and predctive densities for imperfect inspection model are obtained.
The time to measure the size distribution using Condensation Nuclei Counter(CNC) and Differential Mobility Analyzer(DMA) can be shortened by classifying particles ramping the DMA voltage exponentially and continuously. In measurement, particles sampled at different time are mixed together going through sampling tube and CNC. Because the size distribution is inversed by using detector responses to sampling time intervals in this accelerated method, the mixing effects give inversion errors to the size distribution. The mixing effects can be considered by appling the transfer function with mixing effects to the data inversion. The inversion considering this effects gives birth to the size distribution shifted to the opposite direction of the size scanning.

The techniques for the estimation of motion vector from the image sequence assume implicitly that the intensity of image is constant through the time. But this assumption can be distored by such causes as the added noises and the sub-pel motion following the sampling, and the errors can be generated on the motion estimation by the change of intensity. In this paper, we analyzed theoretically the effect of the change of intensity by the noise on the motion estimation with the white Gaussian noise. We know a fact that the signal may be fluctuated to reduce the effect of the noise and so the sampling rate have to make down. Also we confirmed the theoretically analysis through the experiments which investigated the relation between the noises and the sampling rates.
