  • From the study on the relation of O-mi(五味) and Sam-Eum-Sam-Yang(三陰三陽), the conclusion is as follows. The system of Sam-Eum-Sam-Yang(三陰三陽) in human body expresses a kind of inner images[象] of continuous life, that implies many complex view-points, in both inside and out-side according to time flow. Besides, O-mi(五味) is one of very important native properties of all existences, that is accepted from the state they have been located in, and it includes the principles of real nature. Based on understanding of Sam-Eum-Sam-Yang(三陰三陽), when we investigate properties of O-mi(五味) for practical use, the concepts of contraction and extension[收散], softening and hardening[軟堅], and slowing and fastening[緩急], referred in Naegyeong(內經), directly express the images of Sam-Eum-Sam-Yang(三陰三陽).

  • In order to develop the effective methods of electroacupuncture anesthesia to bovine species. eight animals of Korean native cow, which are healthy and have ordinary perception response. were examined to study on the acupuncture prescription. In the present study, six kinds of acupuncture prescription methods were applied with four kinds of meridian points which consist of Sam Yang Rack, Keuk Moon, Boo Yang and Sam Eum Kyo. The results are summarized as follows. 1. All kinds of methods applied here were simple in needling technique but considerably effective on analgesia. It was also confirmed that the methods could be applied to the all clinical signs, because these were not depended to vary on the position of operation area and the body restrain. 2. The results, which were obtained by applying to all meridian points at both legs selected by diagonal lines(e. g., right foreleg and left hind leg, and vice versa) and to all meridian points at the all legs, were revealed the same analgesia effect. However, the result applied to meridian points at one side of body did not show the good effect for analgesia. 3. When the acupuncture prescription was applied to Sam Yang Rack and Keuk Moon at both forelegs, and Boo Yang and Sam Eum Kyo at both hind-legs, the good effects of regional analgesia appeared at the anterior body and both forelegs, and the posterior body and both hind-legs, respectivery. 4. There was no sognificant difference in changing biochemical pictures of blood and serum during the experiment.

  • Study on Pulmonary emphysema based on literature and thesis, etc. Knowing the cause of the oriental medicine and treatment. The results were obtained as follows: 1. In the oriental medicine, we could find that emphysema was similiar to Pye-Chang, Huh-Chun. Sang-Qi, Dan-Qi, So-Qi. 2. The cause was divided to asthenia of the lung and kidney, yang-asthenia of the spleen and kidney with energy-asthenia of the lung as the root, and sputum(痰) had been important in the early period of disease, extravasated blood in the latter period. The proximate cause was clonic pulmonary disease, smoking, air pollution. occupation and symptoms of senility, congenital cause etc. 3.The treatment was divided to Gang-Qi-Wha-Dam, Whal-Hyul-Wha-Eo, Jin-Hae-Pyung-Chun in progress of disease and it was divided to Geon-Bi, Nab-Qi, On-Yang, Yang(養)-Eum, Qi-Eum-Ssang-Bo in relieve period. 4.The medicine used to Bu-Bi-Seng-Maek-San, Jo- Jung-Ik-Qi-Tang, Jung-Won-Eum, Geum-Guae-Sin-Qi-Whan, Jin-Mu-Tang, Yuk-Mi-Whan and So-ja-Gang-Qi-Tang, Pae-Mo-Tang, Ja-Won-Tang, Do-Dam-Tang, Chun-min-Tang, Jeon-Ho-Tang etc. The popular used medicine used to Bo-Pae-Tang, Pyung-Chun-Go-Bon-Tang, In-Sam-Hap-Gae-San-Ga-Gam, In-Sam-Yun-Pae-Won, Jung-Chun-Tang, Bo-Shin-Lee-Pae-Tang etc. Exogenous pathogenic fact and increasing of symptom used to Sam-So-Eum, Sang-Gook-Eum, Wol-Bi-Ga-Ban-Ha-Tang, Sa-Baek-Tang, Ma-Hwang-Tang etc.

A Case Report on the Distribution of Sasang Costitution in Dyspepsia Patients who had Undergone Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (내시경 검사를 시행한 소화불량 환자 100례에 대한 사상의학적 분포 연구)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine a distribution of sasang constitution among dyspepsia patients, and to weigh their symptoms score. Methods : We surveyed symptoms of dyspepsia and QSCCII in one hundred dyspepsia patients who had undergone upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Results : In distribution of sasang constitution in total dyspepsia patients group and distribution according to the result of endoscopy, ratio and symptoms score of So-Eum-tn were higher than the others. However the differences were not statistically significant. According to symptoms score by age, symptoms score of Tae-Eum-In in patients above 35 years old group was higher than the others. In patients group under 35 years old, symptoms score of So- Yang-In is higher than the others. However in neither group was this statistically significant.

  • This study on the conception of Pyo Bon expressed in Hwang Jae Nai Kyung was summarized as follows: 1. The conception of Pyo Bon in the Yi Jung Byun Gi Lon(移精變氣論) and Tang Eak Yo Le Lon(湯液료醴論) of So Moon(素問) is that Pyo means the doctor and Bon means the disease. The Pyo Bon of this chapter has a meaning of time, namely first and last. 2. The conception of Pyo Bon in the Soo Yul Hyul Lon(水熱穴論) of So Moon is that Pyo means the lung and Bon means the kidney. The Pyo Bon of this chapter has a meaning of space, namely the upper and lower sides. 3. The conception of Pyo Bon in the Pyo Bon Byung Jun Lon(標本病傳論) of So Moon is that Pyo means a earlier disease and Bon means a later disease. The Pyo Bon of this chapter has a meaning of time, namely first and last. 4. The conception of Pyo Bon in the Chun Won Gi Dae Lon(天元紀大論), Yug Mi Ji Dae Lon(六微旨大論) and Ji Jin Yo Dae Lon(至眞要大論) of So Moon is that Pyo means a Yug Gi(六氣), namely wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness, fire and Bon means a Sam Eum Sam Yang(三陰三陽), The Pyo Bon of this chapter includes a meaning of time and space. 5. The conception of Pyo Bon in the Sa Jun(師傳) of Yung Chu(靈樞) is that Pyo means a inside of the body and Bon means a outside of the body. The Pyo Bon of this chapter a meaning of space, namely the inside and outside. 6. The conception of Pyo Bon in the Wi Gi(衛氣) of Yung Chu is that Pyo means the end of limbs and Bon means the part of head, face, chest, abdomen, back. The Pyo Bon of this chapter has a meaning of space, namely center and circumference.

Literatual Study on the effect of Dam-eum on Spirit (담음이 신지에 미치는 영향에 대한 문헌적 고찰)

  • Dam-eum(痰飮) is peculiar pathological product which is caused by functional difficulty in human fluid replacement and that principally originated functional difficulty between Lung(肺), Spleen(脾), Kidney(腎) and Sam-Cho(三焦). Dam-eum(痰飮) comes into force to disorder about ascending, decending, in and out of human energy circulation and frequently raises functional difficulty in human fluid replacement. As a result of that, it has much effect on action of Spirit(神志). After literatual study on the effect of Dam-eum(痰飮) on Spirit(神志), the result were obtained as follows : Dam-eum is not affecting to Spirit by itself. When Dam-eum is Positive Symptom(實證), Yang Symptom(陽證), mainly it affects to Spirit with Pung(風), Hwa(火), Kyung(驚), Youl(熱). And when it is Negative Symptom(虛症), it mostly affects with 脾胃虛寒, 心血不足. Dam-eum is a factor of causing disharmony between Heart & Kidney(心腎), Heart & Liver(心肝), Stomach & Gall Bladder Line(胃膽經) by 痰迷心竅, 痰火擾心. So it brings out troubles of fluid replacement. These are the main circumstances of affecting Spirit. To cure Disease of Spirit(神志病), which is caused by Dam-eum, there are not only uses the treatment of 理痰氣, 豁痰開竅. There are two treatments to use together. The first treatment is 淸熱, 定驚, 息風, 淸心 that removes fitted toxin. And the other treatment is that keeps the balance of Internal Organs.

  • This study has been carried out to investigate Pyu-Juk ( 肺積 ), Pyu-Ong ( 肺癰 ), Pyu-Ju ( 肺疽 ), Pyu-Am ( 肺癌 ) by referring to 56 literatures. The results were obtained as follows; 1.   • Chang San-roe re-explained the contents from the 30th question to the 47th question of "Nan Jing" which refered to the Chang-Pu and physiological theories as follows through the western theory which wss different from the tranditioonal chinese theory 1. "Nan Jing" refered to the circulation and the coming into being of Yeong-Wi. He denied that it was classified Yeong from Wi or Eum from Yang. 2. He denied that Sam-Cho was separated to three parts and the theory of "Sam-Cho is name only, not shape", using western medical theory. 3. He denied the view about "Left side is kidney, right side is Myung-Mun" because it was incorrect that kidney was separated to two parts which were Su and Hwa or Eum and Yang 4. Re-explaining the contents of "Nan Jing"- the portions of heart and lungs, the rising and falling of liver and lungs, the relationships of five viscera and sound color smell taste fluid, the relationships of five viscera and nine hole, the relationships of five viscera and O-Chu, the physiological difference of the old and the young owing to the deflection of Yeong-Wi Chi-Heol- he thought that viewing the human body using theory of Eum and Yang, Five elements(五行) was a far-fetched interpretation, so he denied the tranditional chinese theory which understood human body's organs, physiology, pathology. 5. He explained the contents of "Nan Jing"- the portions of the colon and the small intestines, the funtion of the six bowls, the corespondence of Chang-Pu, physical peculiarity of liver, the anatomical aspects which were the sizes, weights, volumes and shapes of the Chang-Pu and the alimentary canal, Chil-Chung-Mun, Pal-Hoe-Hyeolthrough western anatomy and physiology in detail.

  • The study was conducted to evaluate the difference of life style, subjective symptoms and health cognition depending on the Sasang Constitution in the industrial workers. The results were as follows ; Constitutional distribution among exposed group were Tae-eum In(38.4%), So-eum In(35.2%), and So-yang In(26.4%) and it was turned out that Tae-eum In took a higher portion of Sasang constitution than other constitutions in technician workers. 'Exercise' and 'Obesity' were found most in Tae-eum In, In So-eum In there were many 'Normal' weight and 'Having digestive disorders' were found most in So-eum In. There were no significant difference in the health cognition among the constitutions. The closer to 'normal' weight, the higher prevalence in 'having' concern about health condition and the more 'normal' condition in sleeping, the higher prevalence of 'having' self-confident in present health.

  • Maek Kyoung(Mai Jing, 脈經) is the first chinese specialized book of diagnostics written by Wang Hee(Wang xi, 王熙) from Seo Jin(xi jin, 西晉). He assorted the contents with pulse and medical examination from Nae Kyoung(nei jing, 內經), Nan Kyoung(nan jing, 難經), Sang Han Ron(shang han lun, 傷寒論) and Jung Jang Kyoung(zhong cang jing, 中藏經). And united with his own research, he explains medical examination and the way of talking the pulse by classifying into entrance and class. Maek Kyoung(Mai Jing, 脈經) was imported Korea by Ji Chong(zhi cong, 知聰) AD 561, and he passed through Ko Ku Ryeo(gao gou li, 高句麗) with Nae Wei Jeon(nei wai dian, 內外典), Yak Seo(yao shu, 藥書), Myung Dang Do(ming tang tu, 明堂圖) and Maek Kyoung(Mai Jing, 脈經) to be naturalized in Japan. This treatise make a special study of the second volume of the Maek Kyoung. It consists of the four chapters: Pyoung Sam Kwan Eum Yang E Sip Sa Ki Maek Je II(平三關陰陽二十四氣脈第一), Pyoung In Young Sin Mun Ki Ku Jeon Hu Maek Je E(平人迎神門氣口前後脈第二), Pyoung Sam Kwan Byoung Hu Byoung Chi Eui Je Sam(平三關病侯幷治宜第三), and Pyoung Gi Kyoung Pal Maek Byoung Je Sa(平寄經八脈病第四). Bi Geup Choun Geum Yo Bang(備急千金要方) and Eui Hak Ip Mun(醫學入門) quoted from the contents in the second volume of Maek Kyoung, and Bin Ho Maek Hak(瀕湖脈學), Gi Kyoung Pal Maek Go(奇經八脈攷) and Maek Eo(脈語) extracted from contents in the second volume of the Maek Kyoung and requoted from this contents. Contents in the second volume of the Maek Kyoung have very valuable data like that, but the literature on this subject in the form of a treatise has not been yet in Korea. So I hope this study will be useful to develope Diagnostics by correcting translation and interpretation and fixing wrong translation.
