  • ADSS(All Dielectirc Self-Supporting) cable installed under high voltage power cable line suffers a variety of environmental influence, rain, wind, snow fall, chemical pollution, salt fog and electrical stress. Its lifetime is required to be at least 20 years with this harsh weathering condition. The electrical stress under high voltage power line gives rise to dry band arcing and tracking, the severest damage, on the outer sheath of cable. Finally tracking might penetrate sheath and cause the break-down of ADSS cable. Tracking resistant sheath material, therefore, should be used to protect the core of ADSS from dry band arcing and to be sure long lifetime. In this work, we discuss various commercial tracking resistant material to investigate the way of track resistance and compare their mechanical, electrical, weathering and tracking properties through serial experiments. We found track resistant material is categorized into two main type : polyethylene with metal hydroxide and polyethylene with reduced carbon black. The Liquid contaminant, Inclined plane Tracking and Erosion test says the time to track of tracking resistant material with metal hydroxide has a little longer time to track in the high applied voltage than that with carbon black, but mechanical and weathering properties were inferior to.

  • The Helicopter MRA Control Rod System has the important function of controlling the speed, height, and direction of helicoptersby adjusting the main rotor disc. However, the ingress of water into the inner control rod can cause ice damage in the rod during winter operation and also corrosion;these defects need to be rectified. The water flowed into the control rod through the upper side space, and the rod was cracked during icing expansion occurring at low temperature. The corrosion occurred due to the lack of coating process during the manufacturing process. To resolve these problems, the upper rod was sealed to prevent water inflow and a coating process was added to prevent corrosion. These solutions were verified by awaterproof test and a salt fog test. The phenomena, causes and measures were reviewed and the methods of improvement were established and proven. This proposed technology to prevent water infiltration and corrosion will contribute to the safety of rotary wing aircraft.

  • Environmental tests are used to verify a equipment that can withstand the rigors of harsh environments. In case of military products for export, the tests have to be based on the climatic data of the world. However, if the climatic data of the world is used for domestic military products, it may cause an increase in manufacture price. There is currently no climatic data that can be used as criteria for the tests in the Korean peninsula and coastal seas. Therefore, this paper suggests a water temperature and a salinity guidelines of salt fog tests for military products used in the area. As a result, we present water temperature and salinity information that is extreme and FOO of the Korean coastal seas.
