Comparative study between Finite Element Method and Limit Equilibrium Method on Slope Stability Analysis (사면안정해석에 있어서의 유한요소법과 한계평형법의 비교)

  • This paper presents the results of a comparative study between FEM and LEM on slope stability analysis. For validation, factors of safety were compared between FEM and LEM. The results from the two methods were in good agreement suggesting that the FEM with the shear strength reduction method can be effectively used on slope stability analyses. A series of analysis were then performed using the FEM for various constitutive laws, slope angles, flow rules, and the finite element discretizations. Among the findings, the finite element method in conjunction with the shear strength reduction method can provide reasonable results in terms of factor of safety. Also revealed is that the results of FEM can be significantly affected by the way in which the type of constitutive law and flow rule are selected.

  • 본 연구에서는 반도체 업체인 M사의 공정을 조사하고 현재 M사의 일정계획 순서와 기존에 연구되었던 일정계획 방법에 대한 결과를 조사한 후 CLV 알고리즘을 적용한 일정계획 기법을 시뮬레이션을 통해 비교 분석하고 알고리즘에 대한 타당성을 검증하고자 한다. CLV 알고리즘을 통한 고객 분류에 의해서 ATP rule을 적용한다면 생산 공정상의 일정계획이 조정되어 고객이 원하는 납기 준수를 달성할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 기존 연구와의 비교 분석을 위하여 시뮬레이션의 수행은 기존 연구 수행일과 동일한 시간(2003년 11월$\sim$12월)을 기준으로 수행하였다.

  • We adapted association rules of data mining in order to investigate the relation among the factors of musculoskeletal disorders and proposed the method of preventing the musculoskeletal disorders associated with multiple logistic regression in previous study. This multiple logistic regression was difficult to establish the method of preventing musculoskeletal disorders in case factors can't be managed by worker himself, i.e., age, gender, marital status. In order to solve this problem, we devised association rules of factors of musculoskeletal disorders and proposed the interactive method of preventing the musculoskeletal disorders, by applying association rules with the result of multiple logistic regression in previous study. The result of correlation analysis showed that prevention method of one part also prevents musculoskeletal disorders of other parts of body.

  • Shutdown of boiler plants is a dynamic, complicated, and hazardous operation. Operational error is a major contributor to danserous situations during boiler plant shutdowns. It is important to develop an automatic system which synthesizes operating procedures to safely go from normal operation to complete shutdown. Knowledge representation for automatic shutdown of boiler plants makes use of the hierarchical, rule-based framework for heuristic knowledge, the semantic network, frame for process topology, and AI techniques such as rule matching, forward chaining, backward chaining, and searching. This knowledge representation and modeling account for the operational states, primitive operation devices, effects of their application, and planning methodology. Also, this is designed to automatically formulate subgoals, search for positive operation devices, formulate constraints, and synthesize shutdown procedures in boiler plants.

  • Hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis is one of the safety analysis method that is used in the chemical complex, because it can systematically identify causes and consequences of all the deviation that could occur. Since this method needs to hire specialized experts, it is costly and time-consuming. Therefore HAZOP Expert System has been developed to automate this analysis. This approach introduced object-oriented method and knowledge representation which is hierarchical tree of units to supply flexibility in the system, functional semantic network, propagation equation and rule-chaining method to set up the expert system for automating HAZOP analysis.

  • Railway safety case is an important measure for demonstrates operating company's capability, commitment and competence in accordance with Railway Regulation 2000 in UK. Safety case describes the scope of operation, definition and boundary of activity, risk analysis, system safety activity, annul safety plan. Relationships between' these components and company's policy, organization, human resource, control measure, investment plan are also included. A case study for Network Rail (infrastructure manager)'s safety case is described in this paper for the construction of safety rule and safety planning.

  • Marine casualties of vessel are said to be in most case caused by human error, but it would be valid for the assumption that the ship is built with high quality and then should be acceptable to the safety standards. It means that the inherent characteristics of a ship should be the first consideration on the safety of ship. Therefore it is basically necessary for navigator to grasp the inherent stability of his ship and ensure that the ship complies with the minimum statutory standards of stability. This study is to realize the stability of the Korean offshore large purseiner varying with loading conditions by the inclining data and some calculations. The author compared the stability of the ship with IMO criteria and domestic rule, and proposed some improvement for the safety of the ship. The results are summarized as follows ; The values of GM of the ship according to the loading condition in navigation satisfy both of the IMO criteria and the domestic rule, but in case of the area under the GZ curves between the heel angles of $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$, and the heel angle occuring the maximum righting lever not satisfy the IMO rule at the fishing ground departure and arrival conditions in the haul in net situation. The initial metacentric height of the ship is very large, but the range of stability and the occurring angle of the maximum GZ are very small, so even small inclining can bring about the beam end. The best method of improvement for that is to increase the freeboard of the model among the variables.

  • The USNRC issued a revised ECCS rule that allows the use of best estimate computer codes for safety analysis. The rule also requires an estimation of uncertainty in calculated system response when applying the best estimate computer codes. A practical realistic evaluation methodology to evaluate the ECCS performance that satisfies the requirements of the ECCS rule has been developed and this paper describes the application of new realistic evaluation methodology to large break LOCA for, the demonstration of the new methodology. The computer code RELAP5/MOD3/KAERI, which was improved from RELAP5/MOD3.1, was used as the best estimate code in the application. The uncertainty of the code was evaluated by assessing several separate and integral effect tests, and for the application to actual plant Kori 3 & 4 was selected as the reference plant. Response surfaces for blowdown and reflood PCTs were generated from the results of the sensitivity analyses and probability distribution functions were established by random sampling or Monte-Carlo method for each response surface. Final uncertainties were quantified at 95% probability level and safety margins for large break LOCA were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the safety consciousness of the lobours working at the ship building or repairing yard at which the industrial accidents frequently happen, and to provide the basic data required for the prevention of those accidents. This study is made by analyzing the questionnaires of 208 labours working at various ship building or repairing industries at random. This questionnaire is focused on finding the basic data for prevention of industrial accidents and getting the public opinions and proposals of labours. The results obtained by this study are as follows ; The negative estimations of the labours to the safety are cultivation of safety consciousness, the safety behavior in company, the molters of arrangement and the estimation of industrial or post arrangement. The positive ones are the arrangements of the protective tools and equipments for safety, the rule of safety regulation and the order of works, and the status of health education within company.

  • In order for the analysis of effect in the respective preventive measures which is being carried out by a small & medium sized company against any potential accident, this research relates to the followings: We investigated the situation of an accident occurred in the company in which his obligation of selecting a safety manager is exempted, in accordance with the industrial safety & healthcare & enforcement ordinance, enforcement rule. We investigated the situation of an accident occurred in the company which entrusted the specialized organization with his own safety control notwithstanding it is free from an obligation to have any safety manager for aiming at the comparison and analysis of the outcome. The economic and preventive effect of industrial accident has been compared and analyzed in order to strengthen the obligation of selecting a safety manager.
