  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of patient safety culture and perceived teamwork on the safety control of nurses. Methods: This study was conducted as a descriptive cross-sectional survey with 141 nurses who worked in a tertiary hospital with over 1,000 beds in S city, Gyeonggi province. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from July 20, to July, 31, 2015. Results: The average work period for nurses participating in the research was 8.84 years. The perceived teamwork and patient safety culture were positively correlated with safety control. The regression model with patient safety culture, perceived teamwork and clinical career against safety control was statistically significant (F=10.16, p<.001). This model also explained 37.1% of safety control (Adj. $R^2=.37$). Especially, communication (${\beta}=.27$, p=.023) of patient safety culture, clinical career (${\beta}=.26$, p<.001), mutual support (${\beta}=.24$, p=.042), and team leadership (${\beta}=.24$, p=.018) in perceived teamwork were identified as factors influencing safety control. Conclusion: The findings of this study imply that a broad approach including teamwork and patient safety culture should be considered to improve the safety control for nurses.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in movement restrictions being instituted globally and the cessation of work at many workplaces. However, during this period, essential services such as healthcare, law enforcement, and critical production and supply chain operations have been required to continue to function. In Singapore, measures were put in place to protect the workers from infection at the workplace, as well as to preserve the operational capability of the essential service in a COVID-19 pandemic environment. This paper critically analyses the measures that were implemented and discusses the extension to broader general industry.

  • Due to civil complaints on vibrations and noises arising from blasting, mechanical excavation has been widely used for tunneling rather than the method of blasting, especially in the case of being in a close-proximity of 10M-20M range to a safety-thing. However, mechanical excavation, though less, it does increase the cost of whole construction project as the period of excavation is much prolonged from lack of constructability. This study aims to research and develop an effective blasting method that can ensure the constructability of shortened excavation period whilst not compromising the safety of the safety-things in a proximity to the blasting site by using a combination of an electronic detonator that can accurately control its delay period and a Low Vibration Explosives(LoVEX) that is effective on vibration control.

  • The second-stage near surface disposal facility for low and very low level radioactive waste's permanent disposal is to be built. During the institutional control period, the inadvertent intrusion of the general public is limited. But after the institutional control period, the access to the general public is not restricted. Therefore human who has purpose of residence and resource exploration can intrude the disposal facility. In this case, radioactive effects to the intruder should be limited within regulatory dose limits. This study conducted the safety assessment of human intrusion on the second-stage surface disposal facility through drilling and post drilling scenario. Results of drilling and post drilling scenario were satisfied with regulatory dose limits. The result showed that post-drilling scenario was more significant than drilling scenario. According to the human intrusion time and behavior after the closure of the facility, dominant radionuclide contributing to the intruder was different. Sensitivity analyses on the parameters about the human behavior were also satisfied with regulatory dose limits. Especially, manual redistribution factor was the most sensitive parameter on exposure dose. A loading plan of spent filter waste and dry active waste was more effective than a loading plan of spent filter waste and other wastes for the radiological point of view. These results can be expected to provide both robustness and defense in depth for the development of safety case further.

  • The basic function of HLW disposal system is to prevent excessive radio-nuclides being leaked from the repository in a short time. To do this, many technical standards should be developed and established on the components of disposal system. Safety assessment of a repository is considered as one of technical standards, because it produces quantitative results of the future evolution of a repository based on a reasonably simplified model. In this paper, we investigated other countries' regulations related to safely assessment focused on the assessment period, radiation dose limits and uncertainties of the assessment. Especially, in the investigation process of the USA regulations, the USA regulatory bodies' approach to assessment period and peak dose is worth taking into account in case of a conflict between peak dose from safety assessment and limited value in regulation.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of Ojeok-san extract powder and soft extract in healthy male volunteers. Methods Randomized controlled, cross over study was carried out in healthy male volunteers. Total 27 of 31 subjects meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled and three subjects for waiting were included. To each group 12 subjects were randomly allocated by random number table. Group A took the extract powder in the first period and then took the soft extract in the second period. Group B took the medicine in the opposite order. Trial was conducted through two times of hospitalizations and all subjects had a seven-days of wash out period. Vital sign and laboratory test were checked before and after the medication. The mean difference of safety evaluation variables were analyzed by paired t-test (p<0.001) or wilcoxon signed rank test (p<0.05). The mean difference between two groups were analyzed by independent t-test (p<0.05) or Mann whitney test (p<0.05). Results As a result of all data related to vital sign and laboratory test in both group, There were no significant differences associated with the clinical trial drug between before and after the medication. And there was no adverse event associated with the clinical trial drug. Conclusions Both Ojeok-san extract powder and soft extract were found to be safe for healthy male volunteers.

  • Recently unemployed construction workers are increasing because of construction recession. But the lack of manpower occurs at the same time, in construction sites. So, the excess of workforce supply and demand exists in construction sites. Construction companies have a difficulty in seeking young skilled workers due to this problem. In this study, construction accidents reported by Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency from 2007 to 2010 were analyzed. It has shown that 50-54, 45-49 and 55-59 year old workers formed 22%, 18% and 17% respectively. This means that old workers becomes a real problem in construction. This research has shown that old workers didn't have much more accidents than young workers, construction accidents related to the employment period of workers.

  • Certification flight test is very risky and there are many hazards. Because the flight test is performed with the aircraft, that is safety and flight characteristics are not proven. And the test items and conditions are critical. If there is loss of aircraft during certification flight test, the certification program, development period can be delayed. Therefore, maintaining safety of the aircraft during flight test is very important. There are not much flight test experiences in Korea. However, developed nations has long history of flight test and experiences of flight test accidents. Based on these experiences, they has developed systematic management methods for the flight test safety. In this study, I would like to introduce safety management and risk assessment of the certification flight test.
