  • Low cycle fatigue behaviors of SA508-3 low-alloy steel were investigated in room-temperature air, high-temperature air and in light water reactor (LWR) water environments. The fatigue mean curve and design curve for the low-alloy steel are developed based on the fatigue data in room-temperature and high-temperature air. The environmental fatigue model for low-alloy steel is developed by the environmental fatigue correction factor (Fen) methodology based on the fatigue data in LWR water environments with the consideration of effects of strain rate, temperature, and dissolved oxygen concentration on the fatigue life.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effects on patient safety knowledge, patient safety performance confidence, and attitude toward patient safety after operating a interprofessional education program for 3 rd and 4 th grade healthcare students with clinical practice experience. We operated a interprofessional education program for 6 days, and the program consisted of job understanding, patient safety risk prediction training, and scenario-based patient safety experience. Patient safety knowledge(t=-5.01, p<.001), patient safety performance confidence(t=-6.75, p<.001), and patient safety attitude(t=-2.59, p=.013) increased statistically significantly after applying the six-day the interprofessional education program. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop programs and evaluate their effectiveness by diversifying educational topics for interprofessional education program. In addition, it is necessary to expand and operate not only for university students but also for new employees working in medical facilities

  • The most recent research in precious metal processing is found in the increasing use of heap leaching for the extraction of gold from low grade ores and tailing dumps because heap leaching has several advantages compared to traditional milling. They include simplicity, lower capital and operating costs, faster starter-up time and environmental safety. In this paper, an attempt has been made to provide an overview of important factors involved in the implementation of heap leaching technology as a vehicle for gold extraction from its low grade ores. Brief discussions of the various important elements to this process has been made to ascertain the heap leaching characteristics, such as heap leaching chemistry, natural factors, ore preparation, heap and pad construction, solution collection system, pond system, metal extraction, and economical consideration.

  • Cast duplex stainless steels are extensively used for primary pressure boundary components. These components are, however, embrittled due to the precipitation of $\alpha$' phase by spinodal decomposition and other processes when exposed to reactor operating temperature for a design lifetime or life extension conditions. This report presents a procedure for estimating the current condition and the residual life of safety-related stainless steel components by using ANL database and correlations. The database of Charpy impact energy suggests that CF-8M grade is the most susceptible to thermal aging and CF-3 grade is the least. Thus, the integrity of CF-8M alleys may be degraded seriously and the degree of deterioration may exceed acceptance limit after several years of service in the nuclear reactors.

  • The new formular for herbal medicine-safety classification in terms of evidence-based medicine was developed and applied to evaluate various herbal medicines in the previous study. This study is aimed to evaluate the frequently-used herbal medicines inducing toxic metabolites or reactive intermediates(RI), such as Ligusticum wallichii Franch, Angelica sinensis, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Rehmanniae Radix, based on 6 safety grades calculated from human equivalent dose(HED)-based MOS(margin of safety). HED-based MOS can be explained as the ratio of theoretical ALD(approximate lethal dose) of human as $LD_1$(lethal dose of 1%)/ clinical maximum dose as $ED_{99}$(Effective dose of 99%). The herbal medicine showing the ratio less than 1 belongs to Class 1, but the herbal medicine showing the ratio more than 500 belongs to Class 6 with the lowest toxicity. As a result, they were evaluated as class 2 for Angelica sinensis and Glycyrrhizae Radix, class 3 for Ligusticum wallichii Franch and Rehmanniae Radix. These resultant grades for 4 herbal medicines were lower than the grade expected under consideration that these herbal medicines are used very frequently in oriental clinics. These low grades would be due to their ingredients which is biotransformed to toxic metabolites.

  • The IMO has made constant efforts for global safety control of fishing vessels operation. As the result varieties of documents, for example, the international conventions, the resolutions, the recommendations and codes were adopted by the Organization. And the Organization contributed to preparing the international standards of marine safety by persuading the member countries to ratify and enforce the documents. The author inspected the content of IMO's activities and recent movement to ensure the safety of fishing vessels and their crew, and obtained the following results in connection with domestic regime. The first is the future prospect and countermeasure against revision and effectuation of "The Torremolinos International Convention for the Safety of Fishing Vessels, 1977". The Authority of Korean Government should make preparations to receive into national legislation as a performance of liability of a party country to the Convention. Secondly, the current domestic legal system has not any serious issues on the education and training for the fishing vessels crew. It is merely necessary to establish and operate the training course for the low grade marine officers.

  • The safety relating to leakage of water and pitch instability of ship chambers of the full balanced hoist vertical shiplifts has been the focus of adoption of the type of vertical shiplifts. This paper aims to remove the doubts through theoretical and engineering researches. The leakage and pitch stability of ship chambers of full balanced hoist vertical ship lifts are investigated on the basis of theoretical analysis and exploration of engineering measures. Regarding the issue of leakage of ship chambers, a mathematical model on leaking process is built and corresponding formula and coping measures are obtained which can be applied in control program of ship lifts by linking with monitoring. The concept of safety grade is put forward to seek the best technical and economic index and the corresponding technical measures are for different grades of ship lift is suggested. For the issue of pitch instability, a methodology of combining theoretical deduction and summary of achievements of design and operation of the type of the full balanced hoist shiplifts is adopted, and the formula for design about pitch stability of ship chambers is derived.

  • The PD measurement method is very useful to detect insulation degradation. Recently, the HFPD(High Frequency Partial Discharge) measurement testing is widely used in partial discharge measurement of HV machines because HFPD measurement testing receives less influence of external noise and has a merit of good sensitivity. Therefore it is very useful method compare to previous conventional PD testing method and effective diagnosis method in power transformer that requires in-service diagnosis. But partial discharges have very complex characteristics of discharge pattern so it is required continuous research to development of precise analysis method. In this study, simulated transformer is manufactured and HFPD occurred from simulated transformer is measured with broad band antenna and active-line RF measurement system in real time, the degradation grade of transformer is analyzed through produced patterns in simulated transformer according to applied voltages. Also the PD pattern which was measured with EMC analyzer and RF measurement system is compared.

  • The horse stable hand workers are one of the most important occupations in horse-racing industry. However, suicide problem of the horse stable hand workers in Korea has raised the necessity of new study on how these workers experience mental health problems such as occupational stress and depression in organizational situation. Therefore, this study investigated the occupational stress and depression level of the horse stable hand workers and identified the structural relationship in the horse-racing industry through a detailed interview. A total of 207 horse stable hand workers participated in this study, and occupational stress and depression level were surveyed using the Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS) and Korean version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D). The results of this study showed that the occupational stress level of horse stable hand workers was higher than the median of Korean population. The significant difference in occupational stress among the detail job grade was also identified. In addition, 34% of the horse stable hand workers showed high risk of depression, and job demand, organizational system, and inappropriate compensation as the subfactors of occupational stress were showed to mainly affect depression. Although there are some limitations according to the field survey, this study also has significant meaning in that it identifies the relationship between the occupational characteristics of the horse stable hand workers and the mental health. It will be necessary to study the diverse organizational situation and individual mental health for new occupations.
