A study on northern sea route navigation using ship handling simulation

  • Recently, the viability of the Northern Sea Route has been receiving a remarkable amount of attention. Owing to global warming, glaciers in the Arctic Ocean have been melting rapidly, which has opened up navigation routes for ships with commercial as well as research purposes. At present, vessels can be economically operated along the Northern Sea Route four months of the year. However, studies have shown that the economical operating time may increase to six months by 2020 and year-round by 2030. Even though the conditions of the Northern Sea Route are extreme, the main reason for its use is that the route is shorter than the existing route using the Suez Canal, which provides an economic benefit. In addition, 25% of the world's oil reserves and 30% of its natural gas are stored in the coastal areas of the East Siberian Arctic region. Many factors are leading to the expectation of commercial navigation using the Northern Sea Route in the near future. To satisfy future demand, the International Maritime Organization established the Polar Code in order to ensure navigation safety in polar waters; this is expected to enter into force on January 1, 2017. According to the code, a ship needs to reduce its speed and analyze the ice for safe operation before entering into it. It is necessary to enter an ice field at a right angle to break the ice safely and efficiently. This study examined the operation along the course for safe navigation of the passage under several conditions. The results will provide guidelines for traffic officers who will operate ships in the Arctic Ocean.

울산항 접근 수역의 해상교통시스템 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Marine Traffic System in the Ulsan Approaching Waters)

  • Marine traffics near Ulsan approaching waters are crossing and converged at the diverging point of No.1 route- No.2 route and No.1 route -No.3 route and are also concentrated at near No1. route approaching area and the headland of cape Gawnjeol. Because the number of berth will increase to 78 from 49 until 2011 due to additional developments, minor modification is expected for the water utilities. This study examined environmental conditions, marine accidental data, marine traffic capacity, traffic flow survery and fisheries zone status near Ulsan approaching water area. Finally, a questionaire survey was carried ou for experts and users to propose new plan.

Efficient Geographical Information-Based En-route Filtering Scheme in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • The existing en-route filtering schemes only consider some simple false data injection attacks, which results in lower safety performance. In this paper, we propose an efficient geographical information-based en-route filtering scheme (EGEFS), in which each forwarding node verifies not only the message authentication codes (MACs), but also the report identifier and the legitimacy and authenticity of locations carried in a data report. Thus, EGEFS can defend against not only the simple false data injection attacks and the replay attack, but also the collusion attack with forged locations proposed in this paper. In addition, we propose a new method for electing the center-of-stimulus (CoS) node, which can ensure that only one detecting node will be elected as the CoS node to generate one data report for an event. The simulation results show that, compared to the existing en-route filtering schemes, EGEFS has higher safety performance, because it can resist more types of false data injection attacks, and it also has higher filtering efficiency and lower energy expenditure.

건물 내 화재 발생 시 사물 인터넷과 강화 학습을 활용한 실시간 안전 대피 경로 방안 개발 (Development of a Real-time Safest Evacuation Route using Internet of Things and Reinforcement Learning in Case of Fire in a Building)

  • Human casualties from fires are increasing worldwide. The majority of human deaths occur during the evacuation process, as occupants panic and are unaware of the location of the fire and evacuation routes. Using an Internet of Things (IoT) sensor and reinforcement learning, we propose a method to find the safest evacuation route by considering the fire location, flame speed, occupant position, and walking conditions. The first step is detecting the fire with IoT-based devices. The second step is identifying the occupant's position via a beacon connected to the occupant's mobile phone. In the third step, the collected information, flame speed, and walking conditions are input into the reinforcement learning model to derive the optimal evacuation route. This study makes it possible to provide the safest evacuation route for individual occupants in real time. This study is expected to reduce human casualties caused by fires.

  • 해상교통 안전을 위한 지능형 해상교통정보서비스에서는 수심, 해사안전법, 기상정보, 연료 소모량 등의 정보를 고려한 안전하고 효율적인 최적 안전항로를 제공하는 서비스를 운영하고 있다. 하지만 서비스 사용자들 입장에서 불필요한 우회, 해상 객체에 대한 보수적인 안전거리 등으로 개인의 운항 경험, 스타일 등에 맞는 항로를 선호한다. 본 연구는 LTE-M을 통해 수집한 선박의 항적 데이터로 선박이 자주 운항하는 구역에 대해 간선 가중치를 조절하여 별도의 해상 환경을 반영하지 않고도 서비스 사용자들의 경험에 기반한 최적 안전항로를 추출할 수 있는 모델을 연구하였다.

  • 기존 항공교통관리 (ATM; air traffic management) 체계에서는 항공기 위치 및 세부 운항 정보와 함께 항공기 운항의 안전성을 보장하기 위하여 다양한 형태의 안전 경고 기능을 항적 정보를 기반으로 함께 제공한다. 도심항공교통(UAM; urban air mobility)을 대상으로 한 도심항공교통관리(UATM; urban air traffic management) 체계에서도 UAM 운항의 안전성을 보장하기 위한 안전 경고 기능이 제공되어야 한다. UAM의 운항 환경을 고려하였을 때 기존 ATM 체계에서 준용하는 수준과 동등한 또는 더 높은 수준의 안전 경고 기능이 제공되어야 한다. 본 연구는 UAM 도입 및 상용화 단계에 앞서 기존 ATM 체계에서 제공하는 안전 경고 기능과 다른 새로운 UATM 체계의 안전 경고 기능을 제시하고자 한다. UAM의 경로 이탈 발생 시 제공되어야 하는 안전 경고 기능을 중심으로 연구를 진행하였으며 접근 단계에서 적용되는 APM (approach path monitor) 및 순항 단계에서 적용되는 RAM (route adherence monitoring) 두 가지 부분으로 나누어 안전 경고 기능 구축을 진행하였다.

ES모델을 이용한 해상교량 하부 적정 직선항로 길이에 대한 기초 연구 (A Basic Study on Proper Straight Route Distance under Marine Bridge using ES Model)

  • 해상교량 하부의 직선항로 길이 확보는 선박 통항 안전을 위한 중요한 요소 중 하나이다. 그러나 항만 및 어항 설계기준에 따르면 해상교량 하부 직선항로 길이는 선박길이의 8배로 획일적인 가이드라인을 적용하고 있다. 본 연구는 적정 해상교량 하부직선길이를 도출하기 위해 ES 모델을 이용하여 항로폭, 통항량, 항로의 곡률, 직선항로길이에 따른 위험도 비율을 확인했다. 확인 결과 항로의 곡률이 $45^{\circ}$의 경우 항로길이가 3L에서 10L로 길어짐에 따라 위험도 비율이 2.27 % 감소했다. 곡률에 따른 위험도는 직선항로의 길이가 3L의 경우 곡률이 $45^{\circ}$에서 $0^{\circ}$로 변하면서 위험도 비율이 4.83 % 감소하는 것을 확인했다. 또한 항로폭 400 m, 시간당 발생선박이 20척의 조건에서 항로의 곡률별, 직선항로에 따른 위험도 비율은 최대 1.45 % 감소하는 것을 확인했다. 이를 통해 해상 교량 건설 시 항로의 혼잡도 및 곡률에 따라 일정 길이 이상의 직선항로가 필요함을 검증했다.

부도수도 항로 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of the Channel of Pudo-Sudo in Chinhae Man)

  • This study aims at improving the channel of Pudo-sudo in Chinhae-Man according to the development project of the port of Masan, by investigating the design criteria of harbour facilities for the maximum sized ship. The new deep-water route was proposed and according to it the present separation scheme was adjusted appropriately. The width of the deep-water route is suggested to be 350m and would be wide enough for the 30,000 DWT container ship to go through However, the proposed channel will be tested and validated by the shiphandling simulator.

A New Route Guidance Method Considering Pedestrian Level of Service using Multi-Criteria Decision Making Technique

  • The route finding analysis is an essential geo-related decision support tool in a LBS(Location based Services) and previous researches related to route guidance have been mainly focused on route guidances for vehicles. However, due to the recent spread of personal computing devices such as PDA, PMP and smart phone, route guidance for pedestrians have been increasingly in demand. The pedestrian route guidance is different from vehicle route guidance because pedestrians are affected more surrounding environment than vehicles. Therefore, pedestrian path finding needs considerations of factors affecting walking. This paper aimed to extract factors affecting walking and charting the factors for application factors affecting walking to pedestrian path finding. In this paper, we found various factors about environment of road for pedestrian and extract the factors affecting walking. Factors affecting walking consist of 4 categories traffic, sidewalk, network, safety facility. We calculated weights about each factor using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Based on weights we calculated scores about each factor's attribute. The weight is maximum score of factor. These scores of factor are used to optimal pedestrian path finding as path finding cost with distance, accessibility.

Space Radiation Measurement on the Polar Route onboard the Korean Commercial Flights

  • This study was performed by the policy research project of Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, which title is "Developing safety standards and management of space radiation on the polar route". In this research, total six experiments were performed using Korean commercial flights (B747). Three of those are on the polar route and the other three are on the north pacific route. Space radiation exposure measured on the polar route is the average 84.7 uSv. The simulation result using CARI-6M program gives 84.9 uSv, which is very similar to measured value. For the departure flight using the north pacific route, the measured space radiation is the average 74.4 uSv. It seems that is not so different to use the polar route or not for the return flight because the higher latitude effect causing the increase of space radiation is compensated by the shortened flight time effect causing decreasing space radiation exposure.
