점하중시험을 이용한 국내 암석의 일축압축강도산정 연구 (Estimation for the Uniaxial Compressive Strength of Rocks in Korea using the Point Load Test)

  • 암반에서 공사를 수행하는 경우에는 공사의 안정성 확보를 위하여 대상 암반의 일축압축강도를 정확히 평가해야 한다. 그러나 일축압축강도를 산정하기 위해서는 많은 비용과 시간이 필요하다. 또한 현장에서는 암석의 일축압축강도시험을 수행할 수 없다는 문제점이 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 점하중강도 시험을 이용하여 암석의 일축압축강도를 산정하는 방법이 외국의 많은 연구자들에 의하여 조사되었다. 그러나 외국의 암석에서 얻어진 연구결과를 그대로 국내에서 적용하는 것은 신뢰성에 문제가 있을 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 국내 암석에 대한 점하중강도지수와 일축압축강도의 상관관계를 광범위한 국내 외 문헌조사와 실내시험 결과를 통하여 도표로 제시하였다. 본 연구결과는 국내 암석의 일축압축강도를 간편하고 신속하게 추정하는데 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 불연속면이 발달한 암반 내에서 해저터널을 시공할 경우 절리 내의 지하수 흐름이 터널 거동에 커다란 영향을 마치므로 안정성 평가 시 수리-역학적 연계해석이 필요하다. 실무에서는 일반적으로 암반이완하중을 고려하여 터널의 콘크리트 라이닝을 설계한다. 연속체 해석 시 잠재적 이완영역을 터널 주변의 국부안전율 분포를 이용하여 수치해석에 의해 산정하는 방법이 제안된 바 있다. 그러나 절리가 발달한 암반의 경우는 절리의 거동이 터널 전제 거동에 큰 영향을 미친다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 불연속 암반 내에 터널 굴착으로 인해 발생하는 잠재적 이완영역을 산정하는 방법을 제안하고 민감도 분석 및 연속제 해석 결과와 비교를 통해 제안된 방법의 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • Notion sickness is well known to be caused by long time exposure to the very low frequency motion in the multiple axes of human body Since the vestibular system for the perception of low frequency motion is located in the head, accurate measurement of 6 degree of freedom head motion is of great importance. In this study, the measurement system consisting of a safety helmet and 9 translational accelerometers was constructed for the estimation of 3 translational and 3 rotational motions of human head. Since estimation errors of 3 rotational components can be significantly magnified even by small offset of the sensitivity axis from the geometric center of an accelerometer, accurate measurement of sensitivity axis must be preceded. The method for accurate estimation of the offset was proposed, and the effect of offset on the estimation of angular acceleration was investigated.

  • Successful design, construction and maintenance of NATM tunnel demands prediction, control, stability estimation and monitoring of surface settlement, gradient and ground displacement with high accuracy. Back analysis using measured data and forward analysis have been and are indispensable tools to achieve this goal. Sakurai provided the hazard warning levels for assessing the stability of tunnels using the relation of critical strain and apparent Young's modulus. This paper performed the estimation of tunnel stability on construction. Firstly, the apparent Young's modulus concept and back analysis method is introduced for the assessment of tunnel safety during excavation a brief framework. Secondly, this paper deals with case study using "Apparent Young's modulus" and "Back analysis" for the purpose of estimating the stability of NATM tunnel in Korea. Finally, a general method that can be estimated the tunnel stability discussed by a flow chart.

Exploring modern machine learning methods to improve causal-effect estimation

  • This paper addresses the use of machine learning methods for causal estimation of treatment effects from observational data. Even though conducting randomized experimental trials is a gold standard to reveal potential causal relationships, observational study is another rich source for investigation of exposure effects, for example, in the research of comparative effectiveness and safety of treatments, where the causal effect can be identified if covariates contain all confounding variables. In this context, statistical regression models for the expected outcome and the probability of treatment are often imposed, which can be combined in a clever way to yield more efficient and robust causal estimators. Recently, targeted maximum likelihood estimation and causal random forest is proposed and extensively studied for the use of data-adaptive regression in estimation of causal inference parameters. Machine learning methods are a natural choice in these settings to improve the quality of the final estimate of the treatment effect. We explore how we can adapt the design and training of several machine learning algorithms for causal inference and study their finite-sample performance through simulation experiments under various scenarios. Application to the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) data shows that these adaptations can improve simple linear regression-based methods.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of on temperature control from actuating method, recycling ratio and the position (top, middle and bottom) of set and controlled temperature within the reactor in adiabatic ebullated recycling condition, when the disturbance was occurred. Estimation of the solution were performed numerically using the finite difference method. It was assumed that the reaction is in constant with heat of reaction and the physical properties(density, heat capacity and viscosity, etc) of the reactants are same condition within the reactor.

  • This paper shows a performance estimation of windowing a single tone with added Gaussian noise and uniform noise. Signal-to-noise ratio can be determined by the ratio of the output noisy signal variance to the input noisy signal variance of a window. Standard deviation of noise is reduced by windowing Signal-to-noise ratio of the noisy signal is reduced by the windowing operation. Thus, performance of window function can be determined by this filtering operation that improved the signal-to-noise ratio.
