This study was carried out to assess problems related to legislative regulations and guidelines concerning some biological assessment systems applied to stream corridor in Korea. We comparatively reviewed the law of stream corridors and the guidelines for master plan concerned, and the law of water quality and health assessment criteria for the aquatic ecosystem concerned. Stream environments were not managed effectively due to the absence of detail regulations and the criteria for stream assessment. A biological assessment system was not equivalently integrated within the management of water resources in process implementation of projects resulting from the dualistic management system for stream corridors in Korea. The current biological assessment system was reflected to mainly physical habitats or only oriented to some aquatic species correlated with water quality. This system was also recognized as part of environment impact assessment based on an intensive survey method of most biological taxa. Conclusively rapid and quantitative assessment techniques based on advanced organisms, such as vegetation, fish and birds, etc. should be urgently provided for considering as representative indicators of stream conditions in Korea.

Owing to the characteristics of the construction industry, large number of risk factors exist in construction projects compared to other industries. In the year 2007, due to industrial disaster, there was a loss of about 70 million number of working days and about 3 trillion won of the economic direct loss Economic loss is estimated up to 16trillion won including the indirect loss. Hence, a countermeasure is required to reduce the loss. However, the existing safety management is inefficient because it is based on experiential safety knowledge in the form of safety index, regulations. The purpose of this research is to improve this problem by proposing a quantitative risk assessment methodology. First, the limitation of existing hazard index is analyzed and subsequently variables for assessing degree of risk is established. Finally, these variables are then combined and a quantitative risk assessment methodology is proposed.

In Korea, as risk informed applications and regulations become active, the necessity of Maintenance Rule(MR) has increased. The objective of this study is to understand the effectiveness and the application method of the Maintenance Rule, which is one of the performance-based regulations and to propose the effective maintenance and regulation method. Also, Periodic Safety Assessment (PSR) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) are introduced a little.
In recent years, various international organizations have raised awareness regarding psychosocial risks and work-related stress. European stakeholders have also taken action on these issues by producing important documents, such as position papers and government regulations, which are reviewed in this article. In particular, 4 European models that have been developed for the assessment and management of work-related stress are considered here. Although important advances have been made in the understanding of work-related stress, there are still gaps in the translation of this knowledge into effective practice at the enterprise level. There are additional problems regarding the methodology in the evaluation of work-related stress. The European models described in this article are based on holistic, global and participatory approaches, where the active role of and involvement of workers are always emphasized. The limitations of these models are in the lack of clarity on preventive intervention and, for two of them, the lack of instrument standardization for risk evaluation. The comparison among the European models to approach work-related stress, although with limitations and socio-cultural differences, offers the possibility for the development of a social dialogue that is important in defining the correct and practical methodology for work stress evaluation and prevention.
Recoilless weapons, which lead strong back blast and impulse noise more than 160 dB, have been used in compliance with the regulation of the safety zone for the safe operations. However, the safety zone regulations for the newly developed weapons should be prepared since the existing guidelines do not provide any information concerning the reason for the safety zone. In this study, the outdoor launch tests were performed to collect the data such as noise, pressure and temperature of the back blast. An assessment method using data obtained from launch tests has been proposed to determine the safety zone. The safety zone has been determined with consideration for the following criteria: Impulse noise, temperature and pressure of the back blast and blast angle. As a results, new safety zones for them have been established for the recoilless weapon developed by ADD (Agency for Defense Development). We expect that this research can be used as a guideline for establishing a new safety zone regulation of similar weapon to be developed.

In recent years, NCAP regulations of many countries have induced automaker to improve the vehicle crashworthiness. But, the current NCAP regulations don't cover all types of traffic accidents. And rapid-increasing market share of compact cars and SUVs has brought for both consumer and automaker to pay more attention on crash compatibility. So, many countries have tried to develop the new crash test mode and update the present crash test mode. Especially, Euro NCAP has been developing a new impact protocol of the car-to-car frontal offset impact including the crash compatibility assessment. There are plans to introduce this new protocol in 2020, and it will be replaced the current Euro NCAP frontal offset impact. The test dummy in the front seats of this new test mode will be changed from 50% Hybrid-III male to 50% THOR male. This paper will address the vehicle responses, the occupant responses and the vehicle compatibility performance from a full vehicle crash test using the new car-to-car frontal offset test protocol of Euro NCAP.

The wide spread of DC electric railway systems such as urban rapid transits including heavy rail and light rail transits has significant ramification as the stray currents from return conductor rails can cause the electrochemical interference, that is, the electrolytic corrosion of both rails and outside underground metallic infrastructures. The immature understanding of either the railway authority who is responsible for establishing the necessary provisions at the design stage or the affected parties makes it difficult to prepare the optimum range of solutions for the long-pending interference problem. In advanced countries, however, numerous assessment studies have been carried out on the stray current interference, by which protective standards and regulations are provided under the collaboration and agreement of the related parties. In this paper, we introduce a european standard from IEC, namely, "IEC 62128-2:2003 railway applications-fixed installations -part 2: protective provisions against the effects of stray currents caused by d.c. traction systems" and a "Code of Practice" produced by Victorian electrolysis committee (VEC) based on "Electricity Safety Act 1998" and "Electricity safety (stray current corrosion) regulations 1999" of Victoria state, Australia.

Recently, as the collaborative robot has been introduced into the domestic industrial robot market, it is installed mainly in the manufacturing industry. Collaborative robots are subject to the safety regulations of industrial robots by Article 93 of the Safety Inspection of the Industrial Safety and Health Act. The sites where collaborative robots are to be installed must perform risk assessments for robots-humans, work environments, and work methods and reduce the risks according to ISO 10218-2 and ISO 12100. On the other hand, because it is early in the introduction of collaborative robots, new risks for collaborative robots have not been issued, and risk assessments are unfamiliar and difficult to apply in the workplace. The risk assessment of collaborative robots aims to identify and reduce the risk of a high probability of occurrence by focusing on the abnormal behavior of humans, human errors, equipment defects, and interlock functions. In this study, a risk assessment was applied to a domestic automobile parts production plant, and improvement measures were drawn. This risk assessment is expected to be useful for improving the safety of small businesses by continuously discovering risk assessment examples of collaborative robots.
Safety Management of Korean railway industry has been rapidly changed into a risk-based approach adopted by developed countries since Railway Safety Act 2004, Rolling Stock Risk Assessment Guidance and its following regulations came into force. The fundamental requirements for the risk-based safety management is to carry out a systematic hazard identification and quantified risk analyses including cost-benefit analyses, but there has been rare a serious discussion over risk acceptance criteria and value of life in order to be able to judge the results of risk analyses and carry out cost-benefit analyses. This study presents the results of a review of risk acceptance criteria and value of life which may be adoped to Korean railway industry through the analyses with comparison of risk accepatnce principles and risk accepatnce criteria which have been already applied to other countries or other railway operators.

One of the objectives of any task design is to provide a safe and helpful workplace for the employees. The safety and health module may include means for confronting the design with safety and health regulations and standards as well as tools for obstacles and collisions detection (such as error models and simulators). Virtual Reality is a leading edge technology which has only very recently become available on platforms and at prices accessible to the majority of simulation engineers. The design of an automated manufacturing system is a complicated, multidisciplinary task that requires involvement of several specialists. In this paper, a design procedure that facilitates the safety and ergonomic considerations of an automated manufacturing system are described. The procedure consists of the following major steps: Data collection and analysis of the data, creation of a three-dimensional simulation model of the work environment, simulation for safety analysis and risk assessment, development of safety solutions, selection of the preferred solutions, implementation of the selected solutions, reporting, and training When improving the safety of an existing system the three-dimensional simulation model helps the designer to perceive the work from operators point of view objectively and safely without the exposure to hazards of the actual system.
