Comparative Performance Analysis of Robot-based Automated Construction System Using a Real Scale Test Project

  • A large-scale research project to develop a robot-based automated building construction system for steel structures was successfully conducted in South Korea. This paper discusses the results of the real-scale test and the key lessons gained from the testing process. The system was assessed in terms of system productivity, construction cost, quality control, and safety improvements. While the productivity of the automated system showed an improvement of about 9.5%, the construction cost was about six times higher than that of the conventional method. The field test also indicated that the automated system requires more on-site quality control measures. However, because the system can eliminate the causes of various safety accidents, safety levels might be expected to be improved significantly. It is expected that this paper will provide knowledge and insight for developing new systems, and the results of the real-scale test might be useful for other researchers and similar research projects in the future.

  • 화학공장의 취약점을 파악하여 안전성을 경제적으로 확보할 수 있는 대안에 대한 설비별 안전투자비용과 그에 따른 편익을 산출하고, 분석함으로써 경제적인 안전 투자 대안을 사업주에게 제시함으로써 안전투자 의사결정의 기초자료로 활용하도록 한다. 이를 통하여 화학공장의 안전 활동 및 안전 투자의 효율성을 증진시키고 안전성 향상을 위한 화학공장의 안전투자가치를 정립하기 위함이다.

  • In order to reduce traffic accident, the interaction between drivers and roads should be studied in drivers' behaviour standpoints, and then this must be applied to the establishment of the road design standard. The K-ROADS(KICT-Road Analysis Driving Simulator) was developed to analyze and evaluate the road safety at the project HuRoSAS(Human & Road Safety Analysis System), since 2003. This has two distinct functions. One is the visual system which has 360 degree F.O.V. to reduce a dead angle on black spots as at-grade intersection. The other is the motion system which reproduce high frequency vibration made in irregular road surface and vehicle's motion. The K-ROADS has been used the study on the effect of alternatives of speed hump, and the study on the interior wall design of long tunnel to safety standpoints.

  • Failures of equipments are linked directly to extensive damages of human lives or financial losses from the increasing uses of railway signaling equipments utilizing computers. Then safety organizations have to establish for guaranteeing safety during the system life-cycle. In this paper, we examine the relationship between railway signaling standards and other safety standards for safety meaning establishment.

  • This study researched problems of safety inspection method and current legislative system for the structure safety evaluation of Rahmen structure affected by remodeling. The elements of weight increase were examined in terms of differences of load moment, shear force, compressive stress and amount of steel before and after remodeling by structure analysis. The thorough examination for impacts of weight increase is indispensable to change of use or extension.

System Thinking Perspective on the Dynamic Relationship between Organizational Characteristics of Nuclear Safety Culture

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to grasp the fundamental structure of incident occurrence in nuclear organizations based on system thinking, and analyze how various causes are interrelated in terms of the causal loop diagram. Background: The recent domestic and overseas nuclear power plant-related incidents and accidents are directly or indirectly associated with safety culture, and thus effective plans for the improvement of safety culture are being called for. While the safety of a nuclear power plant is highly dependent upon technology and equipment, the utilization, maintenance and inspection of the technology and equipment are conducted by workers of the nuclear power plant. Method: Methodology of system thinking perspective using causal loop analysis. Results: As a result of the analysis, first, it turned out that the fundamental cause of incident occurrence in nuclear organizations is time constraint. Second, if a workload of workers increases, their adherence to regulations and procedures comes to be reduced due to time constraint. Third, it is needed, through organizational learning education, to increase actions made from thoughts considering safety as the utmost priority in advance. Fourth, it is necessary to improve professionalism by enhancing educational programs for new workers, and to develop various scenarios with which they can cope with certain situations. Application: This paper provides a base for system dynamics simulation model for future study.

직무분석을 통한 산업안전보건관련학과의 교과목 중요성 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Importance Analysis for the Department of Industrial Safety and Health through Task Analysis)

  • In this paper, an effective curriculum for the department related to industrial safety and health is developed through task analysis by the following approaches. The first approach is DACUM. The method is reflected the demand of industrial fields on subjects in curriculum. In this paper, DACUM workshop involves a trained DACUM facilitator and a committee of 6 expert workers from industrial safety and health area. 21 subjects which are necessary in the industrial fields have been selected by the DACUM analysis. The other is to understand the relative importance among each subject by AHP method. The relative importance of the subject is shown in the order of safety management, mechanical safety, construction safety, human factors engineering and system safety, chemical safety, electric safety by AHP analysis. The competition of department can be improved, if the result of this research is adapted to the department curriculum related to industrial safety and health.

  • System safety management to secure complicated system safety such as railway and nuclear includes various factors. Those are prevention of accidents, faults management, human factor, men-machine relation, organization factor, safety culture, quality/quantity safety performance goal, and safety regulations. To manage them, it is required that database which is based on most analysis is established. Therefore system safety could be controlled. This research defines data required to safety management, and that is aimed at deriving plans in order to establish them as database. To accomplish that, safety information management of other systems such as aviation and marine is reviewed. Also, the present conditions of available data in the filed of domestic railway are analysed, and then it provides plans for. establishing database to build up advanced railway system safety information management systems.

원자력발전소의 안전성 및 신뢰도 평가 (Safety and Reliability Assessment for Nuclear Power Plants)

  • Probabilistic Safety Assessment(PSA) is an engineering analysis of the possible contributors to the risk from a nuclear power plant. It consist of three phases named as Level 1, 2 and 3. Level 1 PSA mainly focused in this paper is the phase of system analysis which includes the development of accident scenarios and the frequency estimation of each scenario. It covers also the system reliability analysis, component data analysis, and human reliability analysis. PSA have become a standard tool in safety evaluation of nuclear power plants. The main benefit of PSA is to provide insights into plant design, performance and environmental impacts, including the identification of dominant risk contributors and the comparison of options for reducing risk.

  • Recently, failures of equipments are linked directly to extensive damages of human lives or financial losses from the increasing uses of train control equipments utilizing computers. Then safety activities have to progress for guaranteeing safety during the system life-cycle. In this paper, we examine the methods for risk analysis and assessment of safety activities and propose optimized one method for risk assessment. There are original risk assessment methods; risk graph and risk matrix method under the qualitative analysis, IRF(Individual Risk Formula) calculations and statistical calculations method under the quantitative analysis. Best-Practice(BP) risk analysis method is proposed for combining advantages of the qualitative and the quantitative analysis. In the comparison of risk graph and risk matrix method for safety estimation, BP method has no applications published up to now, but we can expect that this method will be utilized widely for the risk assessment due to various strong points.
