  • In this paper, we propose a new approach to detect candidate area of vehicle license plate using compounded color and vertical edge information it's own. Also, we propose a verification course, to compressed image generated by Fast DCT, using SVM to increase accuracy of extracted vechicle license plate area. Proposed method is consider that vehicle's position, become a object of it's license plate recognition, has various angle, scale and include enough environment informations. As a experimental results, proposed method shows a superior performance compared with the case that not includes verification course using SVM.

  • Customer segmentation prediction has attracted a lot of research interests in previous literature, and recent studies have shown that artificial neural networks (ANN) method achieved better performance than traditional statistical ones. However, ANN approaches have suffered from difficulties with generalization, producing models that can overfit the data. This paper employs a relatively new machine learning technique, support vector machines (SVM), to the customer segmentation prediction problem in an attempt to provide a model with better explanatory power. To evaluate the prediction accuracy of SVM, we compare its performance with logistic regression analysis and ANN. The experiment results with real data of insurance company show that SVM superiors to them.

  • An eye detection method for facial images using Zernike moments with a support vector machine (SVM) is proposed. Eye/non-eye patterns are represented in terms of the magnitude of Zernike moments and then classified by the SVM. Due to the rotation-invariant characteristics of the magnitude of Zernike moments, the method is robust against rotation, which is demonstrated using rotated images from the ORL database. Experiments with TV drama videos showed that the proposed method achieved a 94.6% detection rate, which is a higher performance level than that achievable by the method that uses gray values with an SVM.

  • Steel girders are the structural members often used for passing long spans. Mostly being subjected to patch loading, or concentrated loading, steel girders are likely to face sudden deformation or damage e.g., web breathing. Horizontal or vertical stiffeners are employed to overcome this phenomenon. This study aims at assessing the feasibility of a machine learning method, namely the support vector machines (SVM) in predicting the patch loading resistance of longitudinally stiffened webs. A database consisting of 162 test data is utilized to develop SVM models and the model with best performance is selected for further inspection. Existing formulations proposed by other researchers are also investigated for comparison. BS5400 and other existing models (model I, model II and model III) appear to yield underestimated predictions with a large scatter; i.e., mean experimental-to-predicted ratios of 1.517, 1.092, 1.155 and 1.256, respectively; whereas the selected SVM model has high prediction accuracy with significantly less scatter. Robust nature and accurate predictions of SVM confirms its feasibility of potential use in solving complex engineering problems.

  • Purpose: To explore the application prospect of support vector machine (SVM) in supply chain management and its practical application in supply chain performance evaluation practice. Research design, data and methodology: This paper establishes the performance evaluation index system of supply chain management according to the balanced scorecard (BSC) theory, and establishes the SVM model of supply chain management performance evaluation based on the SVM principle. Results: The performance evaluation results of the supply chain of an electric power equipment Co., Ltd. in Harbin established by using the model are consistent with the actual situation, which indicates the nature and accuracy of the possible reflection of the established supply chain performance evaluation model. Conclusions: The results show that SVM model can be used to evaluate enterprise supply chain management performance indicators, and can improve enterprise supply chain management performance, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the model.

  • This paper present a decision method of middle ear disease which is developed in children and adults. In the proposed method, features are extracted from the middle ear disease images and normal images using HOG(histogram of oriented gradient) descriptor and the extracted features are learned by SVM(support vector machine) classifier. Input images are classified by SVM classifier based on the model of learning features. Experimental results show that the method yields accuracy of over 90% in decision.

  • In this paper, we study the problem of model selection for Support Vector Machine(SVM) predictor for short-term load forecasting. The model selection amounts to tuning SVM parameters, such as the cost coefficient C and kernel parameters and so on, in order to maximize the prediction performance of SVM. We propose that Cross-Validation method can be used as a model selection algorithm for SVM-based load forecasting technique. Through the various experiments on several data sets, we found that the difference between the prediction error of SVM using Cross-Validation and that of ideal SVM is less than 5%. This shows that SVM parameters for load forecasting can be efficiently tuned by using Cross-Validation.

  • We propose an effective voice-based gender identification method using a support vector machine(SVM). The SVM is a binary classification algorithm that classifies two groups by finding the voluntary nonlinear boundary in a feature space and is known to yield high classification performance. In the present work, we compare the identification performance of the SVM with that of a Gaussian mixture model(GMM) using the mel frequency cepstral coefficients(MFCC). A novel means of incorporating a features fusion scheme based on a combination of the MFCC and pitch is proposed with the aim of improving the performance of gender identification using the SVM. Experiment results indicate that the gender identification performance using the SVM is significantly better than that of the GMM. Moreover, the performance is substantially improved when the proposed features fusion technique is applied.

  • A SVM is a kind of binary classifier in order to find optimal hyperplane which separates training data into two groups. Due to its remarkable performance, the SVM is applied in various fields such as inductive inference, binary classification or making predictions. Also it is a representative black box model; there are plenty of actively discussed researches about analyzing trained SVM classifier. This paper conducts a study on a method that is automatically detecting the line-shaped echoes, sun strobe echo and radial interference echo, using the SVM algorithm because the line-shaped echoes appear relatively often and disturb weather forecasting process. Using a spatial clustering method and corrected reflectivity data in the weather radar, the training data is made up with mean reflectivity, size, appearance, centroid altitude and so forth. With actual occurrence cases of the line-shaped echoes, the trained SVM classifier is verified, and analyzed its characteristics using the decision tree method.

  • Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of machines are gaining importance in the industry because of the need to increase reliability and to decrease possible loss of production due to machine breakdown. By comparing the nitration signals of a machine running in normal and faulty conditions, detection of faults like mass unbalance, shaft misalignment and bearing defects is possible. This paper presents a novel approach for applying the fault diagnosis of rotating machinery. To detect multiple faults in rotating machinery, a feature selection method and support vector machine (SVM) based multi-class classifier are constructed and used in the faults diagnosis. The results in experiments prove that fault types can be diagnosed by the above method.
