Strategy for the Successful Bio-venture in GMO Environment (성공적인 바이오벤처의 경영전략)

  • Bio-venture companies have undertaken harsh environment after 2000 bubble corruption. It is unlike to be changed in the near future. The business model of near-term cash flow, financial stability and survival is a key issue to be discussed. The company shall be rearranged to achieve fast recovery from investment and have to show clear and quantitative business model to the investors. Nevertheless, bio-venture should not drop long-term value creation by sacrificing the possibility of emerging technologies. Prior to clarifing agro-bioventure business model, GMO strategy should have broad supports from stakeholders. The interests and worries of stakeholders are discussed and SWOT is analyzed. For sustainable economy of future, new technology continuously should be invested to fit ROI model of genomics-based GMO developments. Hybrid of products ${\varepsilon}$ technologies may be one of the favorites in this stormy season.

  • The competitive power of technologies is required for survival of enterprises in the social environments that change rapidly. So the strategy of technology development becomes more and more important. For the establishment of strategy, the situational analysis and the forecasting analysis are executed and they include the technology assessment and the technological forecasting. The technology assessment is systematical examination and analysis of the present status of technology. Among the various methods of technology assessment, Matrix Method is one of the usual methods. This research is intended to find out the problems and the difficulties in the current Matrix Method, and to improve the method, finally to help the R&D departments of enterprises applying the method. This suggested matrix(TSM Technology Shift Matrix) method is designed so that one can judge the current situation of technology and future expectation, by moving the matrix which is placed to the upside of the basic matrix.

  • The concept of Customer Circulation of department stores is translated into one of the most critical factors in their survival strategy, that is the strategy of service-differentiation and efficiency- maximization of shopping floors' unit area. Considering that the Customer Circulation affects the attractiveness of a department store and ultimately the number of shoppers, misunderstanding of it merely as one of the interior factors is highly likely to lead to lowered utility of each shopping floor. In this respect, the objective of this paper lies in identifying and analysing unique features of shoppers' spacial behaviors and eventually in proposing more efficient drawing of the Customer Circulation.

Mitophagy stimulation as a novel strategy for the treatment of mitochondrial diseases

  • Mitophagy, the selective degradation of damaged or surplus mitochondria using core autophagy machinery, plays an essential role in maintaining cellular mitochondrial function. Impaired mitophagy is closely linked to various human diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancers and kidney disease. Defective mitophagy induces the accumulation of damaged mitochondria and thereby results in a decline in cellular survival and tissue function. Accordingly, enhancement of mitophagy has been proposed as a novel strategy for the treatment of human diseases closely linked to mitochondrial dysfunction. Recent studies showing that the stimulation of mitophagy has a therapeutic effect on several disease models highlight the possibility of disease treatment using mitophagy. The development of mitophagy inducers with toxicity and the identification of molecular mechanisms will enable the clinical application of mitophagy-based treatments.

  • 통계청이 발표한 '10월 고용동향' 자료에 의하면 10월 국내 실업률은 2.6%, 총 실업자수는 60만5000명으로 조사됐다. 특히 20~30대의 청년실업률은 계속 증가해 모두 40만9000명으로 전체 실업자의 67.6%나 차지하고 있어 그 심각성이 더하다. 더욱 심각한 것은 대졸 이상의 고학력 실업률이 계속 증가하고 있는 것이다. 1998년 IMF라는 미증유의 외환위기를 겪으면서 평생직장 개념이 사라졌다. 스스로 실력을 키워 몸값을 올리지 않으면 살아남기 힘든 무한경쟁시대가 도래했다.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the direction of development of our navy's response strategy through analysis at the ends, ways, and means level of the Chinese navy's offensive strategy for the West Sea. As a result of the analysis, at the ends level, the Chinese Navy's offensive strategy for the West Sea strategy is being linked to a grand strategy to protect maritime rights and achieve maritime power between the U.S. and China competition, at the ways level, the Chinese Navy is expected to create a foundation for the international community to recognize the West Sea as China's inland sea through "routine entry" and "exercise authority", and in case of emergency, it will try to secure sea control in the West Sea in a short period of time by blocking Korea's maritime transportation route based on the overwhelming preemptive attack capability of aircraft carriers. At the means level, it is accelerating the construction of aircraft carrier warfare units and improving its ability to engage long-range missiles. As a direction of development of the Korean Navy's response strategy in response to this, first, Establishment and Development of National Maritime Security Strategy in conjunction with the Korean Indo-Pacific Strategy. Second, it proposes the development of the concept of effective security operations for the east sea area of the West Sea intermediate line, and third, the development of the concept of combat performance and capacity building to strengthen survival and lethality.

Standardized Breast Cancer Mortality Rate Compared to the General Female Population of Iran

  • Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Improvements of early diagnosis modalities have led to longer survival rates. This study aimed to determine the 5, 10 and 15 year mortality rates of breast cancer patients compared to the normal female population. Materials and Methods: The follow up data of a cohort of 615 breast cancer patients referred to Iranian Breast Cancer Research Center (BCRC) from 1986 to 1996 was considered as reference breast cancer dataset. The dataset was divided into 5 year age groups and the 5, 10 and 15 year probability of death for each group was estimated. The annual mortality rate of Iranian women was obtained from the Death Registry system. Standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) of breast cancer patients were calculated using the ratio of the mortality rate in breast cancer patients over the general female population. Results: The mean age of breast cancer patients at diagnosis time was 45.9 (${\pm}10.5$) years ranging from 24-74. A total of 73, 32 and 2 deaths were recorded at 5, 10 and 15 years, respectively, after diagnosis. The SMRs for breast cancer patients at 5, 10 and 15 year intervals after diagnosis were 6.74 (95% CI, 5.5-8.2), 6.55 (95%CI, 5-8.1) and 1.26 (95%CI, 0.65-2.9), respectively. Conclusion: Results showed that the observed mortality rate of breast cancer patients after 15 years from diagnosis was very similar to expected rates in general female population. This finding would be useful for clinicians and health policy makers to adopt a beneficial strategy to improve breast cancer survival. Further follow-up time with larger sample size and a pooled analysis of survival rates of different centres may shed more light on mortality patterns of breast cancer.
