  • Gymnodinium mikimotoi is one of several species of flagellates that cause harmful red tides. The red tides of G. mikimotoi have occurred only along $33-35^{\circ}$ N, e.g. Chinhae Bay in Korea, tile Seto Inland Sea and Kumane-Nada in Japan. I try to reproduce the formation of red ties of G. mikimotoi at Suo-Nada and Iyo-Nada, the western part of Seto Inland Sea, Japan in July 1985 with the use of four-dimensional assimilation model including the biological process of G. mikimotoi in this paper. • By comparing ‘Jing Mai(${\ulcorner}$經脈${\lrcorner}$)’ and ‘Jin Fu(${\ulcorner}$禁服${\lrcorner}$)’, we are able to see that ‘Jing Mai’ has adopted many of its aspects from ‘Jin Fu’, which also enables us to conclude that ‘Jing Mai’ was made after 'Jin Fu', with the 'Ren Ying Cun Kou Mai Fa(人迎寸口脈法)‘ being considered important. 'Jing Mai' was made relatively late, during the last days of 'Xi Han(西漢)' or early days of 'Dong Han(東漢)'. Also 'Jing Mai' was written after 'Ying Qi(${\ulcorner}$營氣${\lrcorner}$)’. ‘12 Jing Mai’ in ‘Jing Mai’ is based mainly on 'Yin Yang Shi Yi Mai Jiu Jing(${\ulcorner}$陰陽十一脈灸經${\lrcorner}$)‘ and has also referred to other meridian theories, modifying it again by theories of 'Jin Fu' and 'Ying Qi', forming the 'Jing Mai Lian Huan(經脈連環)' part. The major change in '12 Jing Mai' is that '6 Yang Jing(6陽經)' enters the abdominal and thoracic cavity, directly relating to 'Liu Fu(六腑)'. 'Ben Jing(本經)'s connection to 'Ben Zang' is referred to as 'Shu(屬)' and connection to 'Ben Zang(本臟)' is referred to as 'Lou(絡)', clarifying 'Biao Li Guan Xi(表裏關系)' inside and outslde and 'Zang Fu Xiang He(臟腑相合)' congruency. Looking at the pathological condition view of ‘Jing Mai’, the writer of 'Jing Mai Pian' has renewed it and has erased repeated symptoms of 'Suo Seng Bing(所生病)' that appears in 'Shi Dong Bing(是動病)'. If the wrong adoption of theories of previous generations are corrected and parts which do not comply with the text's original meaning and parts that posterities added are deleted, the ancient acupuncture theory preserved in this book is still a precious treasure.

  • In this paper, an auxiliary winding driving system of single-phase induction motors is described. Starting charateristics variations are obtained by controlling the auxiliary winding voltage magnitude and phase angle, while the motor's main winding is directly connected to the local utility. A variable auxiliary winding voltage phase angle is shown to yield significant torque control, providing starting and braking torque. The analysis includes the determination of the relationship between the auxiliary winding voltage phase angle and the phase angle difference between the main and auxiliary winding current. The paper proposed for adjusting an auxiliary winding voltage magnitude and phase angle. Experimental results of motor's starting characteristics with using the DC-AMP and PWM inverter for auxiliary winding power supply are shown. The drive is tested using a dynamometer to experimentally verify the results of the theory.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of electroencephalogram (EEG) during emotional occurrence of likes and dislikes in humans subjected to visual stimuli. Fifteen healthy male subjects participated in the study. Portrayals of females and cars on a visual screen, one photographic display at a time. were used as the stimulus. The subjects, with their EEGs concomitantly monitored, were asked to record their likes and dislikes for each portrayal of a total of 50 sequential displays. The results indicated that beta ($\beta$)=wave was more prevalent with dislikes than likes, and the arousal level was higher when dislikes predominated over likes, implying that more cerebral information processing activity was involved in answering dislikes than likes. In the case of cars, the difference between likes and dislikes was focused within a frequency band of 15-20 Hz in the right cerebral hemisphere. Our findings suggest that the activity in the right brain predominates with increases in negative emotion.

  • In this paper, we present a new approach for speaker diarization. First, we use the prosodic information calculated on the original speech to resynthesize the new speech data utilizing the spectrum modeling technique. The resynthesized data is modeled with sinusoids based on pitch, vibration amplitude, and phase bias. Then, we use the resynthesized speech data to extract cepstral features and integrate them with the cepstral features from original speech for speaker diarization. At last, we show how the two streams of cepstral features can be combined to improve the robustness of speaker diarization. Experiments carried out on the standardized datasets (the US National Institute of Standards and Technology Rich Transcription 04-S multiple distant microphone conditions) show a significant improvement in diarization error rate compared to the system based on only the feature stream from original speech.

  • With the increasing application of explosive composite structure in many engineering fields, its interface bonding state detection is more and more significant to avoid catastrophic accidents. However, this task still faces challenges due to the complexity of the bonding interface. In this paper, the concept of nonlinear output frequency response functions (NOFRFs) is introduced to detect the bonding state of explosive composite structure. The NOFRFs can describe the nonlinear characteristics of nonlinear vibrating system. Because of the presence of the bonding interface, explosive composite structure itself is a nonlinear system; when bonding interface of the structure is damaged, its dynamic characteristics show enhanced nonlinear characteristic. Therefore, the NOFRFs-based detection index is proposed as indicator to detect the bonding state of explosive composite pipes. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the detection approach.

  • A method to measure the interfacial toughness of film/substrate by nanoindenter is proposed. As the thickness of the film decreases, the measurement of the interfacial toughness requires the more sophisticated equipment such as nanoindenter. In this study, the nanoindenter is applied to the substrate near the interface of film/substrate in the direction perpendicular to the normal of the interface, causing the cohesive fracture of the substrate, followed by the interfacial cracking. The specimen of Cu($0.56 {\mu}m$)/Si(530 ${\mu}$) are made by sputtering the copper onto the silicon wafer. By scratching the copper surface, we can make the easy interfacial cracking during the nanoindentation. It is found that the averaged values of the interfacial toughness of the Cu/Si is $0.664{\pm}0.3\;J/m^2$ . The phase angle of the specimen in this study is ${\psi}{\simeq}-36.8^{\circ}$, computed by the method of Suo and Hutchinson.[1]

  • The present study analyzes the content of "Suojaegi (The Account of the Suo Residence)," an essay written by the Joseon-dynasty scholar Jeong Yak-yong (丁若鏞, 1762-1836). The study identifies the work's characteristic features and significance, seeking to develop a methodology to use this essay to teach students how to write. In terms of its content, the author of "Suojaegi" asserts what it means to "protect one's self-integrity" as the word "Suo" means in the title of the residence where the author's brother Jeong Yak-hyeon(丁若鉉) lived. According to the author, his elder brother could keep on living in his house, without being sent to exile in the political turmoils, because he preserved his sense of self and adhered to his principles. The originality of the essay is attributed to the use of gi (記), a genre of writing in classical Chinese that can be translated as "record," or "account," to express his thoughts in a place of exile in the form of a dialogue with his own self. Lastly, this self-reflective essay can be served as a guide for teaching students to make their own pen names, and to write a letter of self-introduction.
