  • In this paper, we propose the adaptive beamforming algorithm for the MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Out)-OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access)system to improve the performance. The performance of MIMO-OFDMA systems is greatly decreased in the wireless channel environment with multiusers, because the received signals are much distorted by a cochannel interference (CCI) during the space-time decoding. The proposed approach can track the DOA of each signal from the multiple antennas of the desired user without being greatly dependent on the impinging angle. And beams are directed toward the multiple transmitters of the desired user while null beams are directed toward interference directions. Therefore, we can can effectively cancel CCI and mitigate the impairment of delay spread while preserving the STC(space time code) diversity. BER performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by applying the proposed approach to MIMO-OFDMA system in a multipath fading channel with CCI.

  • To find out the predictors of nocturnal arterial oxygen desaturation in patients with respiratory diseases, transcutaneous oxygen saturation($StcO_2$) monitoring studies using a pulse oximeter were performed during sleep in 20 patients. $StcO_2$ was decreased more than 4% from the baseline value in 18 patients(90%) and more than 10%("Desaturator") in 8(40%). Five of the seven patients(71.4%) with awake $PaO_2$<60mmHg and three of the thirteen patients(23.1%) with awake $PaO_2{\geq}60mmHg$ were "desaturators". The awake $PaO_2/FIO_2$ and $PaO_2/PAO_2$ could distinguish "desaturator" from "nondesaturator", and $PaO_2,\;SaO_2$ or $StcO_2$ could not. These results suggest that the nocturnal oxygen desaturation depends on the severity of the underlying disease rather than the baseline $PaO_2$. Anthropomorphic and lung function factors could not separate between "desaturator" and "non-desaturator", and about a quater of patients with a wake $PaO_2{\geq}60mmHg$ developed significant desaturation. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the nocturnal arterial oxygen saturation in patients with respiratory diseases regardless of their severity of airflow obstruction or awake $PaO_2$.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the performance of various diversity techniques which can contribute to provide efficient multimedia broadcasting services via hybrid/integrated satellite and terrestrial network. Space-time coding can achieve the diversity gain in a multi-path environment without additional bandwidth requirement. Recent study results reported that satellite systems can achieve high diversity gains by appropriate utilization of STC and/or forward error correction. Based on these previous study results, we present various cooperative diversity techniques by combing STC and rate compatible turbo codes in order to realize the transmit diversity for the mobile satellite system. The satellite and several terrestrial repeaters operate in unison to send the encoded signals, so that receiver may realize diversity gain. The results demonstrated in this paper can be utilized in future system implementation.

  • The synchronization problem is directly related to the quality of service in multimedia communication and especially in real-time communication. In this study, we found the cause of clock fluctuation between encoder and decoder in MPEG-2 system layer was that the standard decoder design only considered a fixed time delay component. To solve it, we proposed Extended-SRTS algorithm, which uses STC as service clock by synchronizing transport stream. As the result, we can improve the effect of frequency-drift, time-varying-network-jitter and packing-jitter and so on And by virtue of this algorithm, we can make low the dependency of network clock, which makes easy to synchronize and connect transparently at the ends point, we expect the proposed algorithm can be widely applied to the field of real -time multimedia communications.

  • In this paper, an I-V characteristics of bypass diode has been studied by counting the shading effect in photovoltaic module. The shadow induces hot spot phenomenon in PV module due to the increase of resistance in the current path. Two different types of PV module with and without bypass diode were fabricated to expect maximum output power with an increasing shading rate of 5 % on the solar cell. Temperature distribution is also detected by shading the whole solar cell for the outdoor test. From the result, the bypass diode works properly over 60 % of shading per cell with constant output power. Maximum power generation in case of solar cell being totally shaded with bypass diode decreases 41.3 % compared with the one under STC(Standard Test Condition). On the other hand, the maximum output power of the module without bypass diode gradually decreases by showing hot spot phenomenon with the increase of shading ratio on the cell and finally indicates 95.5 % of power loss compared with the output under STC. Finally the module temperature measured increases around $10^{\circ}C$ higher than that under STC due to hot-spots which come from the condition without bypass diode. It has been therefore one of the main reasons for degrading the PV module and shortening the durability of the PV system.

  • Sixteen Korean field transmissible gastroenteritis viruses (TGEVs) were isolated using swine testicular cell (STC) and the genomic diversity of them was analyzed. All TGEV isolates produced a typical cytopathic effect in STC and were confirmed as TGEV by immunofluorescence assay using monoclonal antibody against TGEV and PCR using TGEV specific primers. RNAs from TGEV field isolates and vaccine TGEV were extracted and amplified by RT and PCR. The RT-PCR products were digested with selected restriction enzymes and analyzed RFLP patterns. The N-terminal end region of S gene and ORF 3 and 3-1 genes of TGEV amplified by TGEV specific primer pairs seemed to be conserved. Most specific variations were detected in S gene amplified by TGEV 4/6 primer pairs which includes antigenic sites A and D. When the PCR products were treated with Sau3AI and Ssp I, Bvac(vaccine strain), field isolates 133 and 347 were differentiated from Miller and Purdue types. In the case of D5 field isolates, it was classified into Purdue type by Sau 3AI but classified into independent TGEV by Ssp I. Two different TGEV strains from D2 sample were confirmed by plaque purification and RT-PCR-RFLP analysis. To investigate the change occurring in TGEV genome after serial passage, the TGEV P44 strain was passaged through STC. There were specific changes in S gene and a large deletion was observed in ORF 3 and 3-1 genes. These studies showed that a distinct difference in genome exists among TGEV field isolates.

  • The Sinusoidal Transform Coding(STC) is a vocoding scheme based on a sinusoidal model of a speech signal. The low bit-rate speech coding based on sinusoidal model is a method that models and synthesizes speech with fundamental frequency and its harmonic elements, spectral envelope and phase in the frequency region. In this paper, we propose the 2.4kbps low-rate speech coding algorithm using the sinusoidal model of a speech signal. In the proposed coder, the pitch frequency is estimated by choosing the frequency that makes least mean squared error between synthetic speech with all spectrum peaks and speech synthesized with chosen frequency and its harmonics. The spectral envelope is estimated using SEEVOC(Spectral Envelope Estimation VOCoder) algorithm and the discrete all-pole model. The phase information is obtained using the time of pitch pulse occurrence, i.e., the onset time, as well as the phase of the vocal tract system. Experimental results show that the synthetic speech preserves both the formant and phase information of the original speech very well. The performance of the coder has been evaluated in terms of the MOS test based on informal listening tests, and it achieved over the MOS score of 3.1.

  • In terrestrial data broadcasting, we are just on the beginning stage in all aspects including implementation and design techniques and only asynchronous data processing has been receiving a little study. In this paper, we therefore propose an efficient processing algorithm for synchronization of asynchronous data by using trigger information to make more diverse service possible with a variety of contents. In the proposed algorithm, trigger data is encapsulated in DSM-CC section and transmitted in a form of MPEG-2 TS. The data is then separated in PC type set-top box and detached asynchronous data and trigger data are stored by the proposed algorithm. Pre-loaded asynchronous data is displayed when STC(system time clock) has the same value as PTS(presentation time stamp). Proper operation of the proposed algorithm was verified by using a content of asynchronous data with extensible markup language(XML) and a declarative application(DA) browser.

  • We describe a method for the in-orbit calibration of body-mounted magnetometers based on the CHAOS-7 geomagnetic field model. The code is designed to find the true calibration parameters autonomously by using only the onboard magnetometer data and the corresponding CHAOS outputs. As the model output and satellite data have different coordinate systems, they are first transformed to a Star Tracker Coordinate (STC). Then, non-linear optimization processes are run to minimize the differences between the CHAOS-7 model and satellite data in the STC. The process finally searches out a suite of calibration parameters that can maximize the model-data agreement. These parameters include the instrument gain, offset, axis orthogonality, and Euler rotation matrices between the magnetometer frame and the STC. To validate the performance of the Python code, we first produce pseudo satellite data by convoluting CHAOS-7 model outputs with a prescribed set of the 'true' calibration parameters. Then, we let the code autonomously undistort the pseudo satellite data through optimization processes, which ultimately track down the initially prescribed calibration parameters. The reconstructed parameters are in good agreement with the prescribed (true) ones, which demonstrates that the code can be used for actual instrument data calibration. This study is performed using Python 3.8.5, NumPy 1.19.2, SciPy 1.6, AstroPy 4.2, SpacePy 0.2.1, and ChaosmagPy 0.5 including the CHAOS-7.6 geomagnetic field model. This code will be utilized for processing NextSat-1 and Small scale magNetospheric and Ionospheric Plasma Experiment (SNIPE) data in the future.

  • Annual average daily traffic (AADT) serves the important basic data in transportation sector. Despite of its importance, AADT is estimated through permanent traffic counts (PTC) at limited locations because of constraints in budget and so on. At most of locations, AADT is estimated using short-term traffic counts (STC). Though many studies have been carried out at home and abroad in an effort to enhance the accuracy of AADT estimate, the method to simplify average STC data has been adopted because of application difficulty. A typical model for estimating AADT is an adjustment factor application model which applies the monthly or weekly adjustment factors at PTC points (or group) with similar traffic pattern. But this model has the limit in determining the PTC points (or group) with similar traffic pattern with STC. Because STC represents usually 24-hour or 48-hour data, it's difficult to forecast a 365-day traffic variation. In order to improve the accuracy of traffic volume prediction, this study used the geostatistical approach called co-kriging and according to their reports. To compare results, using 3 methods : using adjustment factor in same section(method 1), using grouping method to apply adjustment factor(method 2), cokriging model using previous year's traffic data which is in a high spatial correlation with traffic volume data as a secondary variable. This study deals with estimating AADT considering time and space so AADT estimation is more reliable comparing other research.
