한강 상류와 중류지역에서 측정한 일반수질의 계절적 변화(1988. 8$\sim$1989. 9) (Seasonal variation of water qualities in the upper and middle reaches of the Han River (1988. 8$\sim$1989. 9))

  • This study was conducted to investigate of water qualities in the upper and middle reaches of the Han River. For this purpose, water was sampled at Kwangjin and 1st Han-River Bridges of the Han River in Seoul and analysed from August, 1988 to September, 1989. The results are summarized as follows : 1. Water quality at 1st Han-River Bridge was more polluted than that at Kwangjin Bridge. 2. Except biological oxygen demand (BOD), turbidity, suspended solid (SS), dissolved oxygen (DO), DO saturation (DOS), ammonia nitrogen ($NH_3-N$), nitrite nitrogen ($NO_2-N$) and chloride ion ($Cl^-$) at Kwangjin and 1st Han-River Bridges were lower as compared with the previous data before redevelopment of the Han River. 3. SS, DO and pH at Kwangjin and 1st Han-River Bridges could be classified to the 1st grade in environmental water quality standard. DOS at Kwangjin Bridge was over 100% and that at 1st Han-River Bridge was below 100% in the Han River. BOD at Kwangjin Bridge could be classified to End grade and that at 1st Han-River Bridge to 3rd grade in environmental water quality standard. 4. The higher the level of water was, the lower the levels of turbidity and SS, and $NH_3-N$ was decreased with increasing water level at 1st Han-River Bridge. DO was decreased as water temperature went up but DOS was increased with DO. BOD was positively correlated with nitrite-nitrogens. 5. Turbidity and SS at the both sites and Chloride ion ($Cl^-$) at Kwangjin Bridge were increased in July and August. And DO at the both sites and $NH_3-N$ at 1st Han-River Bridge were decreased in at July and August.

검정종료돈의 체중변화에 따른 일당중체량, 등지방두께 및 정육율의 반복력과 상관 (Repeatabilities and Correlations among Average Daily Gain, Backfat Thickness and Lean Percent in Swine)

  • 본 연구는 1999년 8월부터 2000년 2월까지 공인 제2종돈능력검정소에서 검정 종료된 Duroc종, Landrace종 및 Yorkshire종에 대하여 체중, 등지방두께, 일당증체량 및 정육율을 측정하여, 동일 개체의 반복측정치 간의 반복력과, 상관 및 순위상관을 추정하였으며, 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 평균능력은 측정시 체중이 각각 91.0, 114.7, 123.2kg이였으며, 측정시 일령은 각각 142.1, 173.7, 182.5일이였으며, 정육율은 각각 57.9, 56.2, 55.2%였으며, 등지방두께는 각각 1.33, 1.61, 1.63cm였으며, 일당증체량은 각각 946.6, 879.2, 879.4g으로 나타났다. 2. 각 형질의 측정차수간 상관은 정육율의 경우, 1차와 2차, 1차와 3차, 2차와 3차간 각각 0.493, 0.471, 0.619로 나타났고, 등지방두께의 경우, 각각 0.424, 0.424, 0.700으로 나타났으며, 일당증체량의 경우, 각각 0.716, 0.601, 0.861로 모든 형질에서 1차와 2차간, 1차와 3차간 보다는 2차와 3차간에 높게 추정되었다. 3. 각 측정차수의 형질간 상관은 1차 측정의 경우, 정육율과 등지방두께, 정육율과 일당증체량, 등지방두께와 일당증체량이 각각 -0.597, -0.291, 0.303으로 나타났고, 2차 측정의 경우, 각각 -0.667, -0.292, 0.396으로 나타났으며, 3차 측정의 경우, 각각 -0.711, -0.369, 0.409로 정육율과 등지방두께 및 일당증체량은 부의 상관관계에 있으며, 등지방두께와 일당증체량은 정의 상관관계에 있고, 일령이 증가할수록 상관이 높게 추정되었다. 4. 각 형질의 반복력 추정치를 살펴보면, 등지방두께가 0.374, 정육율이 0.428, 일당증체량이 0.673으로 추정되었으며, 일당증체량의 반복력은 상당히 높게 추정되어, 110kg까지 검정의 필요성이 인정되지 않으나, 등지방두께와 정육율의 추정치는 낮게 추정되어 더욱 많은 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

구담 습지(경북 안동)의 저서성 대형무척추동물 군집 (The Benthic Macroinvertebrates Community of Gudam Swamp (Andong, Gyeongsanbuk-do))

  • 본 조사는 1999년 10월부터 2000년 8월까지 경상북도 구담습지의 광덕교지역(St. 1), 양어장지역(St. 2), 구담교지역(St. 3) 세 곳의 저서성 대형무척추동물 군집을 파악하기 위해 실시되었다. 조사기간중 채집된 저서성 대형무척추동물은 총 3문 5강 11목 26과 38속 47종이며, 수서곤충은 5목 20과 38종으로 나타났으며, 깔따구류가 모든 조사지점에서 우점종으로 나타났다. 우점도는 St. 2에서 가장 높았고 St. 1에서 가장 낮았다. 우점도 지수 범위는 0.40~1.00(평균, 0.69)이었고, 종다양도 지수 범위는 0.04~3.40(평균, 1.98)로 조사되었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 수신기에서 채널 추정을 필요로 하지 않는 MWSK (M-ary orthogonal Walsh sequence keying)를 적용한 ST-MWSK (space-time MWSK)를 제안한다. ST-MWSK의 noncoherent ML (maximum-likelihood) 검출기의 계산 복잡도는 기존의 ST-FSK (ST frequency-shift keying) 방식에 비해 크게 줄어든다. 또한 ST-MWSK는 ST-FSK와 거의 동일한 성능을 나타낸다.

형개(荊芥)가 조골세포(造骨細胞)에 미치는 영향(影響) (The Effect of Schizonepeta tenuifolia on Osteoblast)

  • Objectives : The author aimed to evaluate the effect of BuOH fraction(ST) from Schizonepeta tenuifolia on osteoblast proliferation in murine calvarial cells. Methods : The osteoblast separated from murine calvariae was cultivated for 10 days and evaluated the cell function. After the addition of ST on the culture medium, we determined the effect of ST on the cell proliferation, protein synthesis, alkaline phosphatase activity, collagen synthesis, and apoptosis of the osteoblast. Results : 1. ST increased the proliferation of osteoblast, and restored the decreased cell number in glucocorticoid (GC)-treated osteoblast. 2. ST increased protein synthesis of osteoblast, and restored the decreased protein synthesis in GC-treated osteoblast. 3. ST increased ALP activity of osteoblast, and restored the decreased enzyme activity in GC-treated osteoblast. 4. ST increased collagen synthesis of osteoblast, and restored the decreased collagen synthesis in GC-treated osteoblast. 5. ST did not change the survival rate of osteoblast, but increased the survival rate in GC-treated osteoblast. Conclusions : It is concluded that ST might reduce the osteoporosis resulted from augumentation of osteoblast proliferation.

Assessment of genetic diversity of Typha angustifolia in the development of cattail stands

  • Typha angustifolia has ecological characteristics of clonal growth similar to Phragmites australis. The plant spreads byclonal growth and seed dispersal. In this study, for the three stands which have different settlement age at the Baksilji wetland in Korea, genetic diversity was estimated by random amplification of polymorphic DNA analysis to evaluate the change in genetic diversity of T. angustifolia during stand development in the same population. Stand (ST) 1 was the oldest and ST 4 was the youngest. ST 5 was in a small ditch out of the Baksilji. Although the ST 1, ST 2, and ST 3 did not differ significantly in vegetational or physical environment, the genetic diversity estimated according to Nei's gene diversity (h) and the Shannon index (i) increased in the order of ST 1 < ST 2 < ST 3 contrary to formative age. The genetic diversity of ST 4 was much higher than that of the other three stands. ST 4 has similar abiotic environmental conditions with slight T. angustifolia dominance, and seems to be in the early establishment stage. ST 5 differed from the other stands in vegetational and soil environments, which can result in stressful cattail conditions. Even though the ST 5 stand was not younger than the ST 4 stand, ST 5 showed the highest genetic diversity. Our results indicate that after early settlement of the T. angustifolia population, genetic diversity within the species decreased over time and that the decreasing pattern of genetic diversity within T. angustifolia stands is not likely to occur under stressful conditions.

Uropathogenic Escherichia coli ST131 in urinary tract infections in children

  • Purpose: Escherichia coli sequence type (ST) 131, a multidrug-resistant clone causing extraintestinal infections, has rapidly become prevalent worldwide. However, the epidemiological and clinical features of pediatric infections are poorly understood. We aimed to explore the characteristics of ST131 Escherichia coli isolated from Korean children with urinary tract infections. Methods: We examined 114 uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) isolates from children hospitalized at Chung-Ang University Hospital between 2011 and 2014. Bacterial strains were classified into STs by partial sequencing of seven housekeeping genes (adk, fumC, gyrB, icd, mdh, purA, and recA). Clinical characteristics and antimicrobial susceptibility were compared between ST131 and non-ST131 UPEC isolates. Results: Sixteen UPEC isolates (14.0%) were extended-spectrum ${\beta}-lactamase$ (ESBL)-producers; 50.0% of ESBL-producers were ST131 isolates. Of all the isolates tested, 13.2% (15 of 114) were classified as ST131. There were no statistically significant associations between ST131 and age, sex, or clinical characteristics, including fever, white blood cell counts in urine and serum, C-reactive protein, radiologic abnormalities, and clinical outcome. However, ST131 isolates showed significantly lower rates of susceptibility to cefazolin (26.7%), cefotaxime (40.0%), cefepime (40.0%), and ciprofloxacin (53.3%) than non-ST131 isolates (65.7%, 91.9%, 92.9%, and 87.9%, respectively; P<0.001 for all). ESBL was more frequently produced in ST131 (53.3%) than in non-ST131 (8.1%) isolates (P<0.01). Conclusion: ST131 E. coli isolates were prevalent uropathogens in children at a single medical center in Korea between 2011 and 2014. Although ST131 isolates showed higher rates of antimicrobial resistance, clinical presentation and outcomes of patients were similar to those of patients infected with non-ST131 isolates.

한우 인공수정시 rbST 투여가 수태 및 분만율에 미치는 영향 (Effect of rbST Administrations at Artificial Insemination on Conception and Parturition Rates in Hanwoo)

  • 본 연구는 정상 및 저수태 한우에 rbST를 투여하였을 때 수태 및 분만율에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 수행하였다. 시험축은 성빈 한우 383두와 임상적으로는 정상이나 3회 이상 수정시켜도 수태가 되지 않는 저수태 한우 79두, 총 462두를 시험에 공시하였다. 실험을 수행하기 위한 시험구 배치는 5개의 처리구, 즉 T1(무처리, 2ml의 생리 식염수), T2(rbST 250mg 수정시 1회 미근부에 투여), T3(rbST 250mg: 수정시 및 수정후 $10\~14$일째 2회 투여), T4(rbST 500 mg: 수정시 1회 투여) 및 T5(rbST 500mg: 수정시 및 수정후 $10\~14$일째 2회 투여)로 나누어 시험을 실시하였다. 그리고 호르몬과 병행 처리구는 Day 0일에 GnRH 100 ug/cow를 견갑부에 피하주사하고 Day 7일째 $PGF_2{\alpha}\;25mg/cow$를 주사하여 황체를 퇴행시키고, Day 9일째 GnRH 100ug/cow를 주사하여 배란 동기화를 유도하여 시험에 공시하였다. 1. 정상 한우에 인공수정시 rbST를 T1, T2, T3, T4 및 T5로 처리하였을 때, 1회 수정 수태율은 대조구$(52.4\pm9.72\%)$에 비하여 $T2(67.5\pm18.48\%)$에서 높은 것으로 나타났고, 저수태우에서는 대조구$(39.3\pm12.89\%)$보다 $T4(63.3\pm5.77\%)$에서 유의적으로 높은 수태율을 나타냈다.(p<0.05). 또한, 정상 한우의 분만율에 있어서는 처리구간 유의적인 차이가 인정되지 않았지만, 저수태우에서는 $T4(46.7\pm11.55\%)$에서 유의적으로 높은 성적을 나타냈다(p<0.05). 2. Ovsynch 방법으로 발정을 유기하여 인공수정시 rbST를 T1, T2, T3, T4 및 T5로 처리하였을 때, 1회 수정 수태율은 대조구에 비하여 T2에서 $12.5\%$가 높은 것으로 나타났고, 저수태우에서는 $T4(80.0\%)$에서 유의적으로 높은 수태 율을 나타냈다(p<0.05). 3. 정상 한우에 인공수정시 rbST를 T1, T2, T3, T4 및 T5로 각기 처리하였을 때, 임신 기간은 평균 $282.7\~284.8$일이었고, 또한 생시체중의 비교는 평균 $25.1\~25.9kg$으로서 처리 구간 유사한 결과를 보였다. 그러나, 송아지의 암수 성비는 T4 처리구(18두 vs. 9두)를 제외한 모든 처리구에서 유사한 경향을 보였다. 그리고, 저수태 한우의 평균 임신 기간은 $280.4\~289.3$일로서 정상우와 비교했을 때 비슷한 결과를 보였고, 또한 생시 체중의 조사 결과에서도 평균 체중이 $23.0\~26.6kg$으로서 각 처리구간에도 유의성은 없었다. 송아지의 암$\cdot$수의 성비는 T4 처리구(2두 vs. 8두)를 제외한 모든 처리구에서 유사하게 나타났다. 결론적으로, 본 연구에서는 정상 및 저수태 성빈 한우에 rbST를 투여한 후 수태율과 분만율을 조사한 결과 인공수정시 정상우에서는 rbST를 250mg 1회 투여, 그리고 저수태 한우에 있어서는 rbST를 500mg을 인공수정시 1회 투여하였을 때가 다른 처리구에서 보다 우수한 결과를 나타내었다. 따라서 인공수정시 일정량의 rbST투여는 한우의 수태 및 분만율을 향상시키는 것으로 사료된다.

Supplementation of Holstein Cows with Low Doses of Bovine Somatotropin (bST) Prepartum and Postpartum Affects Physiological Adaptations and Milk Production

  • Major objectives were to evaluate effects of three schemes of bST-supplementation of Holstein cows (142.8 mg/14 d, POSILAC) during the prepartum and/or postpartum periods through 63 d (${\pm}3d$) of lactation. Measures evaluated the potential of treatments to improve body weight (BW) and body condition score (BCS), provoke changes in plasma concentrations of somatotropin (ST) and IGF-I, and improve milk yield, milk composition (percentages of protein and fat, and somatic cell counts), and several calving variables. Multiparous Holstein cows were randomly assigned to a $2{\times}2$ factorial arrangement of treatments (TRT) to give four groups (I = no bST, n = 26; II = bST postpartum, n = 25; III = bST prepartum, n = 27; IV = bST prepartum and postpartum, n = 25). During the prepartum period, cows in groups I and II were not supplemented but those in groups III and IV were supplemented every 2-wk beginning 21 d before expected calving date through calving. During the first 63 DIM only cows in groups II and IV were supplemented with bST. From 64 DIM through the end of lactation cows in all groups were supplemented with the full lactation dose of bST (500 mg/14 d). The BW and BCS were recorded weekly throughout the prepartum and postpartum periods and every 2-wk beyond 70 DIM. Blood samples were collected 3-times a week for analyses of ST and IGF-I. Milk yields were recorded daily though 150 DIM. Prepartum supplementation of bST did not affect BW or BCS, but mean concentrations of ST were increased 12.2% and were 15.5% greater at calving. Overall, mean concentration of IGF-I was not affected by treatment but concentrations were greater at 1 and 2 wk before calving in bST-supplemented cows. During the first 63 DIM the BW and BCS were not affected by treatment. Significant effects of bST-supplementation were detected on concentrations of ST, IGF-I and on milk yield compared to non-supplemented cows in group I. Postpartum concentrations of ST were greater in bST-supplemented cows (TRT II and IV; +41.9 and 54.6%). However, concentrations of IGF-I were greater only in cows in group IV (+25.9%) during the postpartum period. Overall, the three bST-supplemented groups had greater actual milk yield than the control group (I) during the first 63 and 150 DIM. The actual milk yields during 63 and 150 DIM were 6.5 and 4.6 kg/d greater for cows in group IV than cows in group I and the 305-d ME milk yield also was 15.6% greater. No adverse effects of TRT were observed on calf birth weight, colostrum immunoglobulins, ease of calving or other measures evaluated.

Species Transferability of Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase-2 Isolated from a High-Risk Clone of Escherichia coli ST410

  • Sequence type 410 (ST410) of Escherichia coli is an extraintestinal pathogen associated with multi drug resistance. In this study, we aimed to investigate the horizontal propagation pathway of a high-risk clone of E. coli ST410 that produces Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC). blaKPC-encoding E. coli and K. pneumoniae isolates were evaluated, and complete sequencing and comparative analysis of blaKPC-encoding plasmids from E. coli and K. pneumoniae, antimicrobial susceptibility tests, polymerase chain reaction, multilocus sequence typing, and conjugal transfer of plasmids were performed. Whole-genome sequencing was performed for plasmids mediating KPC-2 production in E. coli and K. pneumoniae clinical isolates. Strains E. coli CPEc171209 and K. pneumoniae CPKp171210 were identified as ST410 and ST307, respectively. CPEc171209 harbored five plasmids belonging to serotype O8:H21, which is in the antimicrobial-resistant clade C4/H24. The CPKp171210 isolate harbored three plasmids. Both strains harbored various additional antimicrobial resistance genes. The IncX3 plasmid pECBHS_9_5 harbored blaKPC-2 within a truncated Tn4401a transposon, which also contains blaSHV-182 with duplicated conjugative elements. This plasmid displayed 100% identity with the IncX3 plasmid pKPBHS_10_3 from the K. pneumoniae CPKp171210 ST307 strain. The genes responsible for the conjugal transfer of the IncX3 plasmid included tra/trb clusters and pil genes coding the type IV pilus. ST410 can be transmitted between patients, posing an elevated risk in clinical settings. The emergence of a KPC-producing E. coli strain (ST410) is concerning because the blaKPC-2-bearing plasmids may carry treatment resistance across species barriers. Transgenic translocation occurs among carbapenem-resistant bacteria, which may spread rapidly via horizontal migration.
