Effects of Calcium Chloride Treatment and Modified Atmosphere Packaging on the Quality Change of 'Fuji' Apple (염화칼슘 처리와 MAP 저장이 '후지' 사과의 품질변화에 미치는 영향)

  • We investigated the effects of both $CaCl_2$ treatment and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) (compared with non-packaging on 'Fuji' apples from the Young-Joo region of Korea. Apples were dined into 5% (w/v) $CaCl_2$ solution for 15 min and then packaged with or without LDPE film (thickness: 0.025 mm) before cold storage at $0^{\circ}C$. Weight loss of applies in film packaging was lower than that of non-packaging applies, and the apple firmness resulting from $CaCl_2$ treatment and MAP was better than that of apples receiving control treatment. Also, $CaCl_2$ treatment and MAP resulted in improvements in titratable acidity, soluble solid content (SSC), and decay rate compared to control treatments. However, no significant differences in vitamin C content were found amongst apples receiving various treatment. the results suggest that a combination of postharvest calcium dipping and plastic film packaging may effectively preserve 'Fuji' apples, and that the combined treatment are better than either individual treatment.

  • SSG (self-healing smart grouting) method, which is developed recently, has the characteristics such as an improvement of durability and waterproofing, prevention of leaching and pollution. In this study, we performed several tests such as gel-time measurement, uniaxial compression test, permeability test, fish poison test and chemical resistance test to compare the engineering properties of SSG with the other chemical grouting method (LW, SGR). As results of tests, the SSG method has low possibility of groundwater and ground pollution caused by leaching, furthermore, it has advantages like long/short term waterproofing, strength and durability. Therefore the SSG method can be applicable in the fields as an alternative of existing chemical grouting methods with problems.

Effects on Quality of Strawberry Fruit by Dipping of Calcium Solution and MA Packaging (칼슘처리와 MA포장이 딸기의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • The strawberry was dipped into $1\%\;CaCl_2$ solution at $20^{\circ}C\;and\;45^{\circ}C$ for 15min. respectively, and then packaged with or without PE film (thickness: 0.011mm) before putting into the cold storage at $5^{\circ}C$. The results showed the lowest rate of rot incidence and the highest firmness with higher Vitamin C content and the best superficial appearance in the treatment of $CaCl_2$ dipping at $45^{\circ}C$ with packaging. It also showed lower pH and higher titratable acidity in the treatment However, no significant difference of SSC was found among various treatments. The results suggested that the combination of postharvest calcium dipping and packaging could result in more effective preservation for strawberry compared with the individual treatment.

Chondrogenic Differentiation of Porcine Skin-Derived Stem Cells with Different Characteristics of Spontaneous Adipocyte Formation

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm whether spontaneous adipocyte generation during chondrogenic induction culture affects the chondrogenic differentiation of porcine skin-derived stem cells (pSSCs). For this purpose, chondrogenic differentiation characteristics and specific marker gene expression were analyzed using cell lines showing different characteristics of spontaneous adipocyte formation. Of the four different lines of pSSCs, the pSSCs-IV line showed higher Oil red O (ORO) and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) extraction levels. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis revealed that the levels of adipogenic markers peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma 2 ($PPAR{\gamma}2$) and adipocyte Protein 2 (aP2) mRNAs were significantly higher in pSSCs-IV than those of the other pSSC lines (P<0.05). Among three chondrogenic markers, collagen type II (Col II) and sex determining region Y-box (Sox9) mRNAs were strongly expressed in pSSCs-IV (P<0.05), but not in aggrecan (Agg), which was significantly higher in pSSCs-II (P<0.05). These results demonstrate that the spontaneous adipocyte generation during chondrogenic differentiation has a positive effect on the chondrogenesis of pSSCs. More research is needed on the correlation between adipocyte generation and cartilage formation.

  • This study is explore the photoelectric conversion change of dye-sensitized solar cells with surface treatment of the conductive substrate. gases of FTO surface treatment were $N_2$, and $O_2$. Treatment conditions of surface were gas flux from 25 sccm to 50 sccm and RF power were from 25 W to 50 W. Treatment time and pressure were fixed 5 min and 100 mtoor. The best sheet resistance and surface roughness were obtained by $O_2$ 50 sccm and 50 W and that result were 7.643 ${\Omega}/cm^2$ and 17.113 nm, respectively. The best efficiency result was obtained by $O_2$ 50 sccm and 50 W and that result of Voc, Jsc, FF and efficiency were 7.03 V, 14.88 $mA/cm^2$, 63.75% and 6.67%, respectively.

Characteristics of Leaves, Roots, and Fruit as Influenced by Energized-Functional Water Supply in Fuji Apple Trees (Energized 기능수 처리에 따른 후지사과의 잎, 뿌리 및 과실특성)

  • Energized-functional water (EFW) and powder (EFP) were manufactured by Kyungwon Institute of Life Science, Seoul, through a series of processes; tap water ultra-purification energy imprinting with catalysts in platinum columns mixing energy-imprinted water + activated zeolites + photosynthetic bacteria fermenting at $25^{\circ}C$ filtering EFW and/or EFP. A single application of EFP to soil under tree canopy before bud burst, combined with three EFW applications to soil during growth of 'Fuji' apples (Malus domestica Borkh.) resulted in a higher Ca concentrations in fruit skins and flesh, and lower Ca and N concentrations in leaves and shoot-bark tissues. EFW also stimulated the net photosynthesis of leaves and root activity. Soluble solid concentrations (SSC) and anthocyanin levels of fruits were also significantly increased at harvest, producing greater firmness and less core browning during storage at $0^{\circ}C$. However, there was no significant difference in titratable acidity of fruit juice between the EFW treatment and the controls.

  • 부유사 수리실험에서 부유사의 농도를 측정하는 것은 불확실성이 매우 크다. Einstein(1950)은 유사의 pickup function 결정에서 이러한 불확실성 때문에 유사입자의 거동을 발생시키는 양력의 확률을 적용하기도 하였다. 일반적으로 부유사의 측정은 부유사 채집기를 통해 수행하지만, 시간적으로 비효율 적이며, 채집 시 채집기의 부피로 인한 난류 발생으로 채집 후 흐름 변화가 발생할 수 있다. 수리실험의 규모라면 이 문제는 더욱 부각될 수 있다. 연속적인 부유사의 농도 측정을 위해 이러한 점은 개선되어야 하는 문제이다. 본 연구에서는 유사 실험의 이러한 단점을 극복하고자 image processing 기법을 적용하였다. Image processing은 부유사의 농도가 증가할수록 탁도가 증가하는 특성을 이용하여, 부유사 농도를 추정하는 방법이다. 이 과정에서 RGB(Red-Green-Blue)로 색을 표시하는 방식에서 image를 변환하여 gray scale로 전환해야 하며, 파(wave)의 전파에 의한 image 결과의 변형은 없다고 가정하였다. Gray scale과 탁도와의 관계를 도출하기 위해 하상에 유사를 포설하고, 단파(surge)를 발생 시켰다. 실험은 길이 12.0m, 폭 0.8m, 높이 0.75m의 개수로에서 수행하였으며, 수로 상류에 sluice형 gate를 급격하게 개방하는 것으로 단파를 재현하였다. 탁도 측정을 위해 유사 채집기를 이용하였으며, 상기에서 제시한 흐름 교란문제로, 1지점에서 1개의 시간동안만 채집을 수행하였으며, image의 촬영을 병행하였다. 또한 data의 정확도를 높이기 위해 3번의 반복실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과 gray scale과 탁도와는 일정한 관계가 나타났으며, 이를 토대로 gray scale-SSC(suspended sediment concentration)와의 관계를 도출하였다. Bayesian 분석을 이용하여 image processing의 보정(확률적 보정)을 추가적으로 수행하였다. 최종적으로 실측한 값과 image processing을 통한 값을 1:1 curve를 통해 비교하였으며, 약 9%의 평균 오차가 발생하여, image processing과 bayesian 적용을 통한 부유사 농도 측정은 신뢰할 만한 결과를 도출하는 것으로 판단된다.

Risk Analysis on Inundation of SOC Facilities under Climate Change (기후변화에 따른 SOC구조물의 외부/내부침수 위험도 분석)

  • 최근 국가시설물에서는 2000년대 이후 집중호우 등으로 인한 대상 부지 내의 홍수 발생 시 주요시설물에 기능 마비가 발생할 수 있고, 궁극적으로는 대규모 사고로 이어질 수 있기 때문에 외부침수에 대비할 수 있는 위험도 분석이 필요하다. 대상 부지에서의 외부침수의 원인으로서는 LIP(Local Intensive Precipitation)에 의한 홍수 발생조건, 인근에 댐, 제방 등이 위치한 경우 이들 시설물의 붕괴에 따른 홍수류의 원전 유입, 지진해일/폭풍해일에 의한 바다로부터의 홍수 유입 등이 대표적인 예이다. 따라서 대상 부지 및 그 SOC시설물의 안전도를 높은 수준에서 관리하기 위해서는 극한홍수가 유입될 때 침수심, 침수유속, 침수시간, 침수강도 등의 재해도를 분석하여야하고, 이들 SOC시설물의 취약도 평가를 실시하고 재해도와 취약도를 결합한 연계분석을 통하여 위험도를 재평가하여야 한다. 본 연구에서는 기존 기후변화를 고려한 외부침수 위험도 분석 결과를 바탕으로 대상 부지 내의 내부침수 위험도 분석을 실시하였다. 위험도 분석을 실시하기 위해 현장답사를 통해 물이 외부에서 내부로 유입 가능한 침수패스 경로를 파악하고, 출입문 위치와 창문의 높이, 출입문의 틈간격 및 높이를 파악하였다. 현장답사를 토대로 침수구역을 선정하였다. 침수구역 선정시 대침수구역과 소침수구역 중요기기들이 위치한 구역을 바탕으로 선정하였고, 이를 바탕으로 2차원 침수 해석을 실시하여 각 구역별로 시간대별 침수가능 높이를 산정하였다. 또한 각 구역별 중요기기의 임계높이를 산정하고, 이를 분석된 최대 침수심과 비교하여 각 구역별 침수에 취약한 구역을 산정하였다. 본 연구결과의 바탕으로 사회기반 시설에 대한 보호 및 홍수피해 예방으로 인한 사회비용 절감이 가능하고, 주요시설물의 SSC별 방재대책을 수립하고, 단계별 저감대책을 제시하여 위험도 경감을 위한 대비책을 마련이 가능할 것 이라고 판단된다.

Verification of Mid-/Long-term Forecasted Soil Moisture Dynamics Using TIGGE/S2S (TIGGE/S2S 기반 중장기 토양수분 예측 및 검증)

  • Developing reliable soil moisture prediction techniques at agricultural regions is a pivotal issue for sustaining stable crop productions. In this study, a physically-based SWAP(Soil-Water-Atmosphere-Plant) model was suggested to estimate soil moisture dynamics at the study sites. ROSETTA was also integrated to derive the soil hydraulic properties(${\alpha}$, n, ${\Theta}_r$, ${\Theta}_s$, $K_s$) as the input variables to SWAP based on the soil information(Sand, Silt and Clay-SSC, %). In order to predict the soil moisture dynamics in future, the mid-term TIGGIE(THORPEX Interactive Grand Global Ensemble) and long-term S2S(Subseasonal to Seasonal) weather forecasts were used, respectively. Our proposed approach was tested at the six study sites of RDA(Rural Development Administration). The estimated soil moisture values based on the SWAP model matched the measured data with the statistics of Root Mean Square Error(RMSE: 0.034~0.069) and Temporal Correlation Coefficient(TCC: 0.735~0.869) for validation. When we predicted the mid-/long-term soil moisture values using the TIGGE(0~15 days)/S2S(16~46 days) weather forecasts, the soil moisture estimates showed less variations during the TIGGE period while uncertainties were increased for the S2S period. Although uncertainties were relatively increased based on the increased leading time of S2S compared to those of TIGGE, these results supported the potential use of TIGGE/S2S forecasts in evaluating agricultural drought. Our proposed approach can be useful for efficient water resources management plans in hydrology, agriculture, etc.

On the Types and Functions of English Subordination including Smallest Small Clauses (영어 종속접속의 유형과 기능: 극소절을 포함하여)

  • This paper discusses the types and functions of English subordinate clauses, whether English subordinate clauses (SC) are headed by a Complementizer (CP) or headed by a lexical (but not functional) Preposition (PP). Furthermore, unlike the standard classification, the current paper provides a finer-grained analysis and classification of English SCs. The traditional or prescriptive view on the functions of English SCs includes Noun SC such as complement clauses, Adjectival SC including relative clauses, and Adverbial SCs that cover a garden variety of subordinators. Added to the existing classification of subordination in English is what I notate as Verbless subordinate clause (V-less SC). Of these 4 different types of subordinate clauses with different functions, properties, and distributions, Subjectless Verbless subordinate clause is further divided into Smallest small clause (SSC) which accounts for English subordination mechanism more uniformly and consistently with respect to their clausal architecture, especially when the subordinate clause is neither PP nor CP.
