Graphene is a two-dimensional nanosheet consisting of honeycomb lattices of $sp^2$ carbon atoms. It is one of promising active materials for the anode of lithium-ion battery and the electrode of supercapacitor, due to its large specific surface area(theoretically $2600m^2\;g^{-1}$), high electric conductivity(typically $8{\times}10^5S\;cm^{-1}$), and mechanical strength. In this review, the synthetic methods of graphene nanosheet and graphene-based nanocomposite are introduced. Also, the electrochemical properties obtainable when the graphene-based materials are adopted to the electrodes of lithium-ion battery and supercapacitor are discussed along with their nanostructures.
Understanding the spin polarization (P) has been an ongoing research challenge. The $Co_{1-x}Mn_x$ (x=0.27, 1) and $Co_{1-x}Fe_x$ (x=0, 0.5, 1) films were prepared using UHV-MBE system. For these films, the magnetic properties and spin polarization were investigated using SQUID and Meservey-Tedrow technique, respectively. Although measured P is uncorrelated to the bulk magnetic moment (M) in Co-Fe and Ni-Fe alloy films, it correlates with M in some alloys such as Co-Mn and Ni-Cu. The results can be understood by the tunneling currents made up of the hybridized sp-d electrons near the Fermi-energy level. Our work shows the feasibility to tailor new materials with large P values.
[ $F_o-value$ ] of canned smoked-oyster in cottonseed oil (SOCO) were measured using a microcomputer aided $F_o-value$ measuring system, and the microbiological safety of the canned SOCO was evaluated to optimize the energy consumption. Most of the microorganisms in raw oyster were saprophytes. No microorganisms were detected from the canned SOCO which was pretreated by conventional procedure and sterilized at $110^{\circ}C$ with $F_o-value$ of 5.92min and over. The most heat resistant microflora isolated from the raw oyster was Bacillus sp.. D-value at $121.1^{\circ}C$ and z-value of spores of Bacillus sp. in the SOCO homogenate were 4.10min and $10,91^{\circ}C$, respectively. After 120 days storage at $50^{\circ}C$, no growth of microorganisms was recognized from the canned SOCO with $F_o-value$of 5.92min.
This paper presents a micro air pump based on the synthetic jet to supply reactant at the cathode side for micro fuel cells. The synthetic jet is a zero mass flux device that converts electrical energy into the momentum. The synthetic jet actuation is usually generated by a traditional PZT-driven actuator, which consists of a small cylindrical cavity, orifices and PZT diaphragms. Therefore, it is very important that the design parameters are optimized because of the simple configuration. To design the synthetic jet micro air pump, a numerical analysis has been conducted for flow characteristics with respect to various geometries. From results of numerical analysis, the micro air pump has been fabricated by the PDMS replication process. The most important design factors of the micro air pump in micro fuel cells are the small size and low power consumption. To satisfy the design targets, we used SP4423 micro chip that is high voltage output DC-AC converter to control the PZT. The SP4423 micro chips can operate from $2.2{\sim}6V$ power supply(or battery) and is capable of supplying up to 200V signals. So it is possible to make small size controller and low power consumption under 0.1W. The size of micro air pump was $16{\times}13{\times}3mm^3$ and the performance test was conducted. With a voltage of 3V at 800Hz, the air pump's flow rate was 2.4cc/min and its power consumption was only 0.15W.

It has been well recognized that a long term service at elevated temperature of $350^{\circ}C{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ induces embrittlement damage due to carbide precipitation and/or P, Sb and Sn segregation at grain boundaries and thereby deteriorates the grain boundary strength of heat resisting components in the energy-related plants. Therefore, it is very important to assess quantitatively the extent of embrittlement damage of heat resisting components to secure the reliable and efficient service condition and to prevent brittle failure in service. However, because fracture tests are limited in size and number of specimen obtained from the structural components, nondestructive test method is required. In this study, the optimum electrochemical parameters are investigated and discussed to evaluate nondestructive embrittlement damage for aged 2.25Cr-1Mo steels by means of electrochemical polarization test method (ECPTM) in proper corrosive environment. In addition, the electrochemical test results are compared with embrittlement degree evaluated by semi-nondestructive SP test.
A new methyltrophic bacterium which utilizes methanol as a sole source of carbon and energy was isolated from soil. It was Gram-negative, nonmotile, nonspore-forming rod, and strictly aerobic bacterium. Catalase and oxidase activities were present. Nitrate was reduced to nitrite. Vitamins and other growth factors were not required. Generation time was 1.6 hr under the optimal condition. The isolate assimilated methanol via the ribulose mono-phosphate pathway (Enter-Doudoroff varient) and did not have .alpha.-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase. It assimilated ammonia through glutamate dehydrogenase. The guanine plus cytosine content of the DNA was 61.0 mol%. The celular fatty acid composition was primarily straight-chain saturated $C^{16 : 0}$ acids (palmitic acids) and unsaturated $C_{16 :1}$ acid (palmitoleic acids), and the isolate also contained two unidentified $C_{17}$ branched fatty acids. The major ubiquinone was Q-8, and Q-6 and Q-7 were present as minor components. Phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol were predominantly present, and diphosphatidyglycerol was also detected. Based on the physiological and biochemical properties, the isolate was assigned to a novel species of the genus Methylobacillus, Methylobacillus methanolovorus sp. nov.
A series of new N-[1-(benzotriazol-1-yl)aryl]arylamine derivatives were synthesized and their antifungal activities $(pI_{50})$ in vitro against Pyricularia oryzae, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. sesami, Valsa ceratosperma and Botrytis cinerea were dertermined by the agar medium dilution method. From the results of the quantitative structure-activity relationships $(QSAR_S)$ analysis, $hydrophobicity({\pi})$, $electronic({\Sigma\sigma})$ and molar $refractivity({\Sigma}M_R)$ parameter of X & Y-substituents on the phenyl group were also shown to be important factor in determining the variation in the antifungal activity. 4-Bromo group substituents (1d & 2b) were the most effective compounds and the $half-life(T_{1/2})$ on the hydrolysis of X(1) at netural pH was about 1.5 day. Molecular orbital(MO) functions of substrate compound, linear free energy relationships$(LFER_S)$ on the antifungal reactivity arid the results of molecular design were also discussed.
In order to solve urban transportation problems, the various alternatives are presented to the public transportation system but the master plan of construction and operation is that there is no validity. PRT unlike other public transport system, is a new transport system that can respond appropriately, to solve the traffic demand, environmental and energy problems. Meanwhile, national and international PRT system was not commercially and the actual construction and operation of the PRT in case of base research is not well established. In this paper, PRT concept was established as the new transportation system, the target area(Nan-gok area) was selected to examine the feasibility of PRT systems and the corridor analysis method has been developed to predict the PRT demand as a basic material of planning process.
The ever increasing demand for energy and the shortage of resources all over the world have generated interest in recycling renewable sources such as lignocelluloses which otherwise would go to waste and cause environmental pollution. Lignin is the incrustation material for cellulose and hemicellulose, therefore, cellulose and hemicellulose are not easily degraded. Recycling lignocellulosic wastes as agricultural material are benefit to everybody and everything. In order to improve ligninase and laccase production of Phanerochaete chrysosporium, BKM-F-1767 and Ceriporiopsis subvermispora, FP 90031-SP, were compared. The ligninase activity of P. chrysosporium was maximum on day 4.5 of shaking culture at 150 rpm 2.5 cm in a back and forth cycle. The laccase activity of C. subvermispora was maximum on day 5.5 for 2% malt extract+0.1% yeast extract+0.1% Tween 20+6 mM Benzyl alcohol culture medium at stationary state.
The importance of natural preservative has increased in recent years. The natural preservatives have been used in the field of foods, cosmetics and pharmacology. In the present work Artemisia sp., well recognized for their effect of antimicrobial activity, were extracted by methanol and water sequentially for selecting only water-soluble compounds that can be used as additives in food and cosmetics. Antimicrobial activities of water extracts from stem and leaf of Artemisia princeps var. orientalis were investigated by the disc diffusion method. Two gram positive bacteria(Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and three gram negative bacteria(Escherichia coil, Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Pseudomonas putida) were used for antimicrobial activity studies. The water-soluble compounds from methanol extract showed higher antimicrobial activity than only water extract to these bacteria. Comparative evaluation of water-soluble metabolite profiles with caffeic acid that is known as an antimicrobial compound from Artemisia sp. was performed by high performance liquid chromatography with photo-diode array detection.
