  • In this paper, we develop a method that changes the resolutions of images in an arbitrary block transform domain by using a filter that suits to the characteristics of the underlying images. To accomplish this, we represent each procedure resizing images in an arbitrary transform domain as matrix multiplications and we derive the matrix that scales the image resolutions from the matrix multiplications. The resolution scaling matrix is also designed to be able to select the up/down-sampling filter that suits the characteristics of the image. Experiments show that the proposed method produces the reliable performances when it is applied to various transforms and to images that are mixed with predicted and non-predicted blocks which are generated during video coding.

  • In this paper, we present a directional error concealment technique to compensate a lost block. Generally, the strong edge of an image has the large amounts of the variance because of its large coefficients in the wavelet domain. For estimating edge direction of a lost block, a $X^2$ hypothesis-testing problem is applied using the variance of wavelet coefficients. The lost block is interpolated according to the estimated edge direction. The pixels for interpolation is obtained from the edge direction. The proposed method outperforms the previous methods in objective and subjective qualities.

  • This paper proposes a novel texture segmentation method using Bayesian image segmentation method and SOM(Self Organization feature Map). Multi-scale wavelet coefficients are used as the input of SOM, and likelihood and a posterior probability for observations are obtained from trained SOMs. Texture segmentation is performed by a posterior probability from trained SOMs and MAP(Maximum A Posterior) classification. And the result of texture segmentation is improved by context information. This proposed segmentation method shows better performance than segmentation method by HMT(Hidden Markov Tree) model. The texture segmentation results by SOM and multi-sclae Bayesian image segmentation technique called HMTseg also show better performance than by HMT and HMTseg.

  • An occupancy map is a representation methodology describing the region occupied by objects in 3D space, which can be utilized for autonomous navigation and object recognition. In this paper, we describe a technique for building an occupancy map using depth data extracted from stereo images. In addition, some techniques are proposed for utilizing the occupancy map for the segmentation of object regions. After the geometric information on the ground plane is extracted from a disparity image, the occupancy map is constructed by projecting each matched point to the ground plane-based 3D space. We explain techniques for extracting moving object regions using the occupancy map and present experimental results using real stereo images.

  • In this paper, we propose an error estimation method based on the Bhattacharyya distance for multimodal data. First, we try to find the empirical relationship between the classification error and the Bhattacharyya distance. Then, we investigate the possibility to derive the error estimation equation based on the Bhattacharyya distance for multimodal data. We assume that the distribution of multimodal data can be approximated as a mixture of several Gaussian distributions. Experimental results with remotely sensed data showed that there exist strong relationships between the Bhattacharyya distance and the classification error and that it is possible to predict the classification error using the Bhattacharyya distance for multimodal data.

  • In the previous researches on mesh curve fairing method, a set of discrete data points in a mesh can be selected as variables. End tangent vectors can not be variables. This restriction makes some problems in preparing the end tangent vectors at the bow or stern parts, because their slopes are not infinites or zeros. In this paper end tangent vectors are included as variables and the more smooth results are obtained. Also two methods of constructing ship hull surface from mesh curves are examined. It is shown that the skinning method is better than non-uniform B-spline fitting method in representing the area near boundary. The generation of a ship surface is given as an example.

  • This paper proposes a new power minimization technique for the frame-based multimedia signal processing. The derivation of the technique is based on the newly proposed microscopic DVS(Dynamic Voltage Scaling) method, where, the operating frequency and the supply voltage levels are dynamically controlled according to the processing requirement for each frame of multimedia data. The multimedia signal processing algorithms are also redesigned and optimized to maximize the power saving efficiency of the microscopic DVS technology. The characterization of the mean/variance distribution of the processing load in the frame-based multimedia signal processing provides the major basis not only for the optimized application of the microscopic DVS technology but also for the optimization of the multimedia algorithms. The power saying efficiency of the proposed DVS approach is experimentally tested with the algorithms of MPEG-2 video decoder and MPEG-2 AAC audio encoder on the ARM9 RISC processor. The experimental results with the diverse MPEG-2 video and audio files show The average power saving efficiencies of 50$\%$ and 30$\%$, respectively. The results also agree very well with those of the analytic derivations.

  • The conventional typical techniques as fast codebook generation methods are PDS, FNNS, and FC. In this paper, we propose FCNNPDS integrated the conventional methods to generate a codebook. The results of simulations show that the computational magnitude of FCNNPDS is reduced to 40-95% lower than conventional techniques. But comparison computation has no relation with k dimension of vectors, that is, because the computational magnitude of comparison is smaller than others, therefore FCNNPDS may be the best method than the conventional methods.

  • In order to evaluate the safety of agricultural products in Korea, we carried out work by screening of Fusarium species. which can produce deoxinivalenol(DON) from agricultural products in Western Gyeongnam, Korea. From 215 samples of soil agricultural products, 129 strains of Fusarium species were obtained. The production of DON was verified by thin layer chromatography(TLC) As the results of TLC, 25 strains were identified as DON producing strain. But only 10 strains were identified as DON producing strains by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The maximum DON producing strain No.41 was isolated from corn. In conclusion. the above results indicate that DON producing fungi contaminated agricultural products in Korea. Therefore further studies are required to accumulate more detailed data about the contamination of DON in various agricultural products.
