This study was carried out to examine the process of plant succession through vegetation invasion and to select appropriate endemic plant species for rapid stabilization and good visual effect on cut-slopes of forest roads. Establishing total of sixty $1m{\times}1m$ sample plots. fifteen for each forest road constructed in the year of '93 (six-year-old), '95(four-year-old), '97(two-year-old), and '98(one-year-old), the ecological attributes of invading vegetation on cut-slopes were analyzed. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The rate of vegetation coverage was highly associated with soil hardness and aspect of cut-slope. Higher rate of vegetation coverage was caused by larger number of invading plant species. 2. The dominant woody species were Rubus crataegifolius, Rhus chinensis, Lespedeza bicolor, Salix hulteni, Alnus hirsuta, and Pinus densiflora. The visual attractive for the fruit of Rubus crataegifolius and the autumn coloration of Rhus chinensis was noteworthy. The dominant herbaceous species were Youngia sonchifolia, Spodiopogon sibiricus, and Lysimachia clethroides in all study forest roads. Spring flower of Potentilla freyniana and Viola rossii: summer flower of Lysimachia clethroides, Commelina communis, Glycine soja. Persicaria sieboldi, and Oenothera odorata: and autumn flower of Artemisia stolonifera and Impatiens textori were abundant and remarkable. 3. The diversity index of woody species tended to be increased as years passed after construction, and that of herbaceous species were decreased. 4. The dominance of Th of dormancy form was early high in the first year of construction, getting decreased thereafter. And that of MM + M + N was increased as years passed after construction. but that of Ch+H+G+Th+HH was decreased. 5. The degrees of succession were estimated by 359, 111, 97, and 87 for the construction year of '93, '95, '97, and '98. respectively, increased as years passed after construction.

The economical feasibility was conducted to find the adequate method to treat the dredged sediments from agricultural reservoirs in a pilot project that had been operated to improve the quality of water and benthic environments by dredging of contaminated sediments. For benefit/cost (B/C) analysis, the net expenses were considered as the costs of project, and the benefits were calculated from the saving of waste-treatment cost through reuse of dredged sediment, the saving of construction cost of settling pond, and the values of retained water by dredging. Although the economic feasibility depended on the sites of operation, the average B/C value of the pilot project was estimated as 1.32, indicating this project is economically feasible. Depending on the treatment methods, the B/C values were in the order of the methods of coagulating sedimentation, machinery dewatering, stabilization through exothermic reaction, and soil improvement and stabilization. The machinery dewatering method is estimated as the most adequate one to treat the dredged sediments because of the minimum riskiness of secondary pollution, the recyclability, and its economic feasibility.

A recent survey investigated that there were over one thousand un-controlled closed landfills(1,072 sites) in Republic of Korea. Most of these landfills were constructed before 1986. Waste management act were not promulgated at that time, so they usually do not have dranage system and leachate treatment facility. Also, considerable attention has been received to landfill leachate pollution, leachate has an adverse impact on the surrounding environment such as soil, groundwater, and water supply source. According to the result of survey for closed landfill management, it was reported that 875 sites out of 1,072sites(81.6%) have no leachate treatment facility and 630 sites out of 1,072sites(58.7%) have been used for farm lands and residence. Consequently it is hard to do postclosure care continuously in most of cases and these uncontrolled landfills have contaminated farm lands and residence. The average age of these landfills are ranged mostly between 2 to 15 years. Much time and advanced technology are needed to remediate these uncontrolled landfills, therefore the survey for present status of closed landfill sites is required and suitable treatment processes should be prepared. With this point of view, We has been investigated to find out the present status of closed landfill, problems of post management and discussed plans for remediation and reuse. Remedial actions of un-controlled landfill have been carried out the many cities since 1997 upto now. Most frequently applied technology were reuse after excavation and there were several cases to capping in the surface of landfill and to construct subsurface barriers. It is considered that landfills in use have a possibility not to be controlled because of inadequate construction and improper management. Therefore remediation of uncontrolled landfills and recovery technology should be develop continuously Especially, it has been expected that resource technology of landfill gas as a energy has some advantages in controlling odors in the site area and accelerating stabilization of landfills with the energy.

Coal power plants produce electricity for the nation's power grid, but they also produce more hazardous air emissions than any other industrial pollution sources. The quantity is staggering, over 386,000 tons of 84 separate hazardous air pollutants spew from over 400 plants in 46 states. In South Korea also, annual coal ash generation from coal-fired power plants were about 6 million tons in 2015. Pollutants containing particulate matter 10, 2.5 (PM10, PM2.5), heavy metals and dioxins from coal-fired power plant. The emissions threaten the health of people who live near these power plants, as well as those who live hundreds of miles away. These pollutants that have long-term impacts on the environment because they accumulate in soil, water and animals. The present study is to investigate the physical and chemical characteristics of coal-fired power plant fly ash and bottom ash contains particulate matter, whose particulate sizes are lower than $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ and heavy metals. There are wide commercial technologies were available for monitoring the PM 2.5 and ultra-fine particles, among those carbonation technology is a good tool for stabilizing the alkaline waste materials. We collected the coal ash samples from different coal power plants and the chemical composition of coal fly ash was characterized by XRF. In the present laboratory research approach reveals that potential application of carbonation technology for particulate matter $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ and stabilization of heavy metals. The significance of this emerging carbonation technology was improving the chemical and physical properties of fly ash and bottom ash samples can facilitate wide re use in construction applications.

The tunnel type spillways is under construction to increasing water reservoir capacity in Dae-am dam. The tunnel outlet was planned to be made after installing slope stabilization system on natural slope there. Generally, the tunnel outlet is made perpendicularly to the slope, but in this case, it had to be made obliquely to the slope for not interrupting flow of river. Because of excavation in condition of natural slope caused to deflecting earth pressure, the outlet couldn't be made. So, artificial ground made with concrete that it was constructed in the outside of tunnel for producing the arching effect which enables to make a outlet. We were planned tunnel excavation was carried out after artificial ground made. Artificial ground made by poor mix concrete of which it was planned that the thickness was at least 3.0m height from outside of tunnel lining and 30cm of height per pouring. Spreading and compaction was planned utilized weight of 15 ton roller machine. In order to access of working truck, slope of artificial ground was designed 1:1.0 and applied 2% slope in upper pert of it for easily drainage of water. In addition to, upper pert of artificial ground was covered with soil, because of impaction of rock fall from upper slope was made minimum. The tunnel excavation of the artificial ground was designed application with special blasting method that it was Super Wedge and control blasting utilized with pre-percussion hole.
Many industrialized countries of the world have many problems about the reuse of waste landfill area because of the increase of terminated waste disposal landfill. Especially, the effective use of the terminated waste disposal landfill nearby the urban area has been demanded, because of the lack of the usable land. However, in case of the construction of the building on such a landfill, ground settlement and reduced bearing capacity would be occurred without ground stabilization and proper reinforcement. This study is to evaluate the applicability of geosynthetics for the increment of bearing capacity of solid waste landfill ground. A numerical simulation has been undertaken to model a layer of weathered soil overlaying a layer of geosynthetic reinforcement and waste disposal ground. The proposed analytical model can be used to obtain surface settlement characteristic in the two-dimensional deformation related reinforcement.

The compaction grouting method is one of the conventional ground improvement methods, which consolidates and compacts the surrounding ground through the injection of grout materials with low mobility. Injecting the grout into the ground can improve the soil properties, as well as form a composite of soil-grout columns. However, the conventional grout pumping is not applicable to handle multiple injection holes at the same time, which may diminish its constructability when the construction time is not enough. This paper proposes a simultaneous multiple compaction-grouting method using a new pump system developed to cover up simultaneously three injection holes at a time. Field injection tests with a single injection hole and with triangular arrangement of injection holes were conducted to evaluate the applicability of the proposed method to soft clay ground. In addition, a series of standard penetration tests (SPTs) were performed to assess the efficiency of each arrangement in improving the soft ground. It is noted from the in-situ test results that the interval distances between injection holes and the elapse time for ground stabilization are the crucial factors governing the applicability of the simultaneous multiple compaction-grouting method to improve the soft clay ground.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has permitted the use of Lime Kiln Dust (LKD) as a low-cost construction material in creating a workable platform for soil modification (not for soil stabilization) since the early 1990s on selected projects. However, the enhanced strength of soils with LKD has not been accounted for in the subgrade stability calculations in the design process. This study was initiated to evaluate how the lime kiln dust is a comparable material to hydrated lime. A series of laboratory tests were performed to assess the mechanical benefits of lime kiln dust in combination with various predominant fine grained soils encountered in the State of Indiana, such as A-4, A-6 and A-7-6. In the course of this study, several tests such as the Atterberg limits, standard Proctor, unconfined compression, CBR, volume stability, and resilient modulus were performed. As a result, mixtures of fine grained soils with 5% lime or 5% LKD substantially improve unconfined compressive strength up to 60% - 400%. CBR values for treated soils are in the range of 25 to 70 while those for untreated soils range from 3 to 18. In general, significant increase in resilient moduli of the soils treated with lime and LKD was observed. This indicates that lime kiln dust may be a viable, cost effective alternative to hydrated lime in enhancing the strength of fine grained soils.

The pH of recycled aggregate is over 12 because of high alkalinity of cement. This high alkalinity give circumstance harmful effect. The high alkalinity of recycled aggregate can appear variously according to aggregate properties, elution time of alkalinity, aggregate size, and so on. This study analyzed recycled aggregate properties according to wet and dry type manufacture process; different test methods: waste official test, soil contamination official test, BS EN 1744-3 standard; elution time and different size to test effects of various condition. These test results can contribute to solving environmental problems by recycled aggregate. In the test results, pH of recycled aggregate was as higher as smaller particle size and as time elapsed. There was no difference between dry and wet type recycled aggregate except for difference according to elapsed time. Waste official test method got the highest pH value between pH test methods. So unified pH test method need to test recycled aggregate pH.
