  • Shinseoncho and kale were made into green vegetable juices by building block [shinsenocho branch (SB), shinsenocho leaf (SL), kale branch (KB), and kale leaf (KL)]. Fluctuations in their phenolic contents and antioxidant capacities were analyzed during refrigerated storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 28 days. Total polyphenolic contents of leaf parts showed a decreasing tendency after 4 days (SL) or 7 days (KL), whereas branch parts showed fluctuating values during the entire storage period. The 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging capacity was rapidly decreased in SB and in SL at 28 days (P<0.001), whereas KL showed a slightly increasing tendency after 14 days. For the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity, SL showed a sharp fall at 28 days (P<0.001), and KL showed a decreasing tendency after 14 days (P<0.001). SB showed a steady decrease during the entire storage period and KB indicated a nearly zero (0.97%) at 28 days. Pearson's coefficients for the correlation between antioxidant capacities measured by the ABTS and DPPH assays, and the total polyphenolic contents were determined. The results showed that the ABTS assay (r=0.934, P<0.001) was more strongly positively correlated with the total phenolic contents than the DPPH assay (r=0.630, P<0.001). In conclusion, when considering all building blocks, green vegetable juices, including kale and shinseoncho may have kept antioxidant capacities for up to 14 days under refrigeration, and the ABTS assay better reflects a positive correlation with the total phenolic contents when compared to the DPPH assay.

  • This paper presents a fundamental theorem of calculus, an integration by parts formula and a version of equiintegrability convergence theorem for the Mα-integral using the Mα-strong Lusin condition. In the convergence theorem, to be able to relax the condition of being point-wise convergent everywhere to point-wise convergent almost everywhere, the uniform Mα-strong Lusin condition was imposed.

  • Normal swine brains at 1 to 70 days after birth were used to investigate the presence and morphology of the subependymal layer (SL) in the ventricle walls. The brain samples were taken from 27 pigs of 4 swine breeds. The results were summarized as follows: 1. SLs were observed on the walls of the lateral ventricle (LV) but none were observed on the walls of the 3th and 4th ventricles. 2. SLs of the LV walls were composed of mainly 3-to 10-cell layers in thickness. The thinest region of SLs was composed of only 1-to 2-cell thick on the dorsal and ventral walls, and the thickest region was composed of 250-to 300-cell thick on extension region of the SLs into the angle between the corpus callosum and caudate nucleus. 3. Of the LV parts observed, the SL thickness were 25-to 45-cell thick on the anterior horn, 3-to 10-cell thick on the body, 100-to 220-cell thick on the angle region between the corpus callosum and caudate nucleus, and 3-to 5-cell thick the superior walls of the posterior horn. Also the SL thickness was more thick on the anterior region than those on the posterior region. 4. SLs may be classified as three types by the cell distribution; one type of them is closely arranged cell region with the distinctive lateral margin from the periventricular white matter, the other type is loosely arranged cell region with the undistinctive lateral margin, and another type is two-subdivided region as the loosely and closely arranged cell layers in a layer. 5. SLs were extensively thick in young age but gradually decreased in size and cell number with age after 20-day age. SL layers were composed of mainly oligodendrocytes, astrocytes and immature cells of them. Morphological differences of SL in different breeds of pigs were not observed.

  • Bupleurum falcatum was cultivated in plots of different soil textures, which were sandy loam(SL), loam(L), and clay loam(CL). The growth charafters of shoot and root parts in SL and L plots were better than CL one, and root yield was the most excellent in SL one. But the contents of total saikosaponins and methanol extract in its roots were the highest in CL plot. In any soil textures, one and two year old plants showed almost the same results in growth characters and saikosaponins contents. The growth and root yield of two year old plants were higher than those of one year old ones, but the contents of methanol extract and saikosaponins were lower. Flant characters were highly negative-correlated with the contents of saikosaponins and methanol extract.

  • Purpose: To overcome the difficulty in building a large data set with a high-quality in medical imaging, a concept of 'blended-transfer learning' (BTL) using a combination of both source data and target data is proposed for the target task. Materials and Methods: Source and target tasks were defined as training of the source and target networks to reconstruct cardiac CINE images from undersampled data, respectively. In transfer learning (TL), the entire neural network (NN) or some parts of the NN after conducting a source task using an open data set was adopted in the target network as the initial network to improve the learning speed and the performance of the target task. Using BTL, an NN effectively learned the target data while preserving knowledge from the source data to the maximum extent possible. The ratio of the source data to the target data was reduced stepwise from 1 in the initial stage to 0 in the final stage. Results: NN that performed BTL showed an improved performance compared to those that performed TL or standalone learning (SL). Generalization of NN was also better achieved. The learning curve was evaluated using normalized mean square error (NMSE) of reconstructed images for both target data and source data. BTL reduced the learning time by 1.25 to 100 times and provided better image quality. Its NMSE was 3% to 8% lower than with SL. Conclusion: The NN that performed the proposed BTL showed the best performance in terms of learning speed and learning curve. It also showed the highest reconstructed-image quality with the lowest NMSE for the test data set. Thus, BTL is an effective way of learning for NNs in the medical-imaging domain where both quality and quantity of data are always limited.

  • This paper proposes a middleware structure for the module-based personal robot, which can run on heterogeneous network interfaces and provides users easy interface-method regardless of underlying heterogeneous interfaces and convenient exchange of modules. The proposed middleware is divided into three layers of a streaming layer (SL), a network adaptation layer (NAL) and a network interface layer (NIL). The streaming layer manages application transactions using middleware services and provides user a uniform interfaces to the proposed middleware. The network adaptation layer manages a message-routing and provides naming service and it is a core of the proposed middleware. And the network interfaces layer manages dependent parts of heterogeneous network interfaces such as IEEE1394, USB, Ethernet, and CAN (Control Area Network). This paper implements the proposed middleware structure, where 3 types of interfaces of IEEE 1394, USB and Ethernet are used, and measures response times among those interfaces.

  • A curl distortion induced by shrinkage during stereolithography polymerization process is analyzed with the classical lamination theory. Test parts of different layer thickness and part thickness are manufactured and their deformations are measured with CMM. Curl distortion is generated by the differential shrinkage of the layers, where the total shrinkage includes the shrinkages due to solidification and the change of temperature. It is shown that the curl distortion increases exponentially with decreasing the total thickness of the part, whose smaller layer thickness induces larger curl distortion. It is verified that only a part of the total shrinkage plays a role in generating the curl distortion.

  • This paper describes the implementation of a fuzzy temperature measuring & control system to control the water temperature in plant. This system consisted of mainly three parts; sensing part, control part that includes a control algorithms introduced the fuzzy theory, and actuating part. The control algorithms of control part are utilized a look-up table method and firmware technique using one-chip microprocessor(89C52). For evaluating the performance of a fuzzy control system, the experiment results of a fuzzy controller are compared with these of a conventional PID controller which provides an auto-tuning function. The experiment results show that the proposed controller has a good control performance and is robust to external disturbance.
