Two kinds of $U_3Si$ powders and $U_3Si$ dispersed nuclear fuel meats have been prepared by conventional comminution process and a newly developed rotating disk atomization process. In contrast to angular shape and broad size distribution of the conventionally processed powder, the atomized powder was spherical and showed narrow size distribution. For the atomized powder, the heat treatment time for the formation of $U_3Si$ by a peritectoid reaction was reduced to about one tenth, thanks to microstructure refinement by rapid cooling of about 5$\times$104 K/s. The extruding pressure of atomized $U_3Si$ powder and Al powder mixture was lower than that of comminuted $U_3Si$ and Al powder mixture. The elongation of the atomization processed fuel meats was much higher than that of the comminution processed fuel meats and remained over 10% up to 80wt.% of $U_3Si$ powder fraction in the fuel meats. It appears therefore that the loading density of $U_3Si$ in fuel meat can be increased by using atomized $U_3Si$ powder. The atomized spherical particles were randomly distributed, while the comminuted particles with angular and longish shape were considerably aligned along the extrusion direction. Along the transverse direction of the extraction the electrical conductivity of the atomization processed fuel meats was appreciably higher than that of comminution processed fuel meats. This tendency became pronounced as $U_3Si$ content increased. Because the thermal conduction which is believed to be proportioned to the electrical conduction in the nuclear fuel meats occurs in radial direction, the atomization processed fuel can be better used in research reactors where high thermal conductivity is required.
The characteristics of proton-diffused $LiNbO_3$ optical waveguides with self-aligned $SiO_2$-cladding are reported. When the proton diffusion occurs, the $SiO_2$-cladding limits the lateral diffusion of protons by out-diffusion of protons in unclad region. Proton indiffusion in depth direction is promoted by inhibition of out-diffusion in clad region. Consequently, the mode profile in depth direction can be nealy symmetric. The extent of the proton exchange was observed by measuring the infrared absorption peak at about $3500cm^{-1}$. It is confirmed that proton diffusion with $SiO_2$-cladding has structural excellency.

Initial growth stage was investigated for SiC homoepitaxial film growth using 'step controlled epitaxy' technique. When the off angel direction is located parallel along to the gas flow direction, the smoother surface can be obtained. On the on axis substrates, selective etching was detected both the etching and growth condition. It was deduced that the high ratio of C/Si in the source gas results in well developed steps and etched spiral around micropipes.
The effect of cold cyclic compaction on densification of SiC whisker/Al2O3 composite was investigated. Re-lative density of the compact increased as the number of cycle and the compaction pressure increased and the bias pressure decreased. The rate of loading and unloading and the frequency of cold cyclic compaction did not affect much on sliding and rearrangement of the particles. Fracture of SiC whisker was hardly ob-served during cold cyclic compaction and the direction of whisker was randomly oriented throughout the compact regardless of the direction of compaction. Thus, cold cyclic compaction may be an efficient method to densify SiC whisker/Al2O3 composite.
The purpose of this study, when one prepared lead zirconate thin films by sol-gel method, was to find the preferred direction of crystal growth and dielectric characteristics for ratio of Pb and Zr. We used the Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate, and annealing condition was $800^{\circ}C$ for lminute. When Pb was deficient, preferred direction was <221>. And when it was stoichiometric ratio, they were grown <200> and <221> direction. But they have antiferroelectric properties, they don't appear distinct domain switching.

6.5wt% Si steel is widely known as an excellent magnetic material because its magnetostriction is nearly zero. The AX magnetic properties as magnetostriction of 6.5% Si steel were evaluated and compared with those of conventional 3% Si steel sheet. In this paper, the fracture behavior of the poly crystals and single crystals of Fe-6.5wt%Si alloy has been observed. Single crystals were prepared by Floating Zone(FZ) method, which melts the alloy by the use of high temperature electron beam in pure argon gas condition. And the single crystals were annealed at 500$^{\circ}C$ and 700$^{\circ}C$ respectively and tensile tested at room temperature. According to the result, B2 phase has more good elongation than DO$_3$ phase. It was also found that the fracture surfaces of the single crystals have hairline facets in same direction, and the facets change the direction according to the single crystal phase.
[ $\underline{Purpose}$ ]: To evaluate the movement of surgical clips implanted in breast tumor bed during normal breathing. $\underline{Materials\;and\;Methods}$: Seven patients receiving breast post-operative radiotherapy were selected for this study. Each patient was simulated in a common treatment position. Fluoroscopic images were recorded every 0.033 s, 30 frames per 1 second, for 10 seconds in anterior to posterior (AP), lateral, and tangential direction except one patient's images which were recorded as a rate of 15 frames per second. The movement of surgical clips was recorded and measured, thereby calculated maximal displacement of each clip in AP, lateral, tangential, and superior to inferior (SI) direction. For the comparison, we also measured the movement of diaphragm in SI direction. $\underline{Results}$: From AP direction's images, average movement of surgical clips in lateral and SI direction was $0.8{\pm}0.5\;mm$ and $0.9{\pm}0.2\;mm$ and maximal movement was 1.9 mm and 1.2 mm. Surgical clips in lateral direction's images were averagely moved $1.3{\pm}0.7\;mm$ and $1.3{\pm}0.5\;mm$ in AP and SI direction with 2.6 mm and 2.6 mm maximal movement in each direction. In tangential direction's images, average movement of surgical clips and maximal movement was $1.2{\pm}0.5\;mm$ and 2.4 mm in tangential direction and $0.9{\pm}0.4\;mm$ and 1.7 mm in SI direction. Diaphragm was averagely moved $14.0{\pm}2.4\;mm$ and 18.8 mm maximally in SI direction. $\underline{Conclusion}$: The movement of clips caused by breathing was not as significant as the movement of diaphragm. And all surgical clip movements were within 3 mm in all directions. These results suggest that for breast radiotherapy, it may not necessary to use breath-holding technique or devices to control breath.

Purpose: To investigate the relationship between 3D bone architectural parameters and direction-related elastic moduli of cancellous bone of mandibular condyle. Materials and Methods: Two micro-pigs (Micro-$pig^R$, PWG Genetics Korea) were used. Each pig was about 12 months old and weighing around 44 kg. 31 cylindrical bone specimen were obtained from cancellous bone of condyles for 3D analysis and measured by micro-computed tomography. Six parameters were trabecular thickness (Tb. Th), bone specific surface (BS/BV), percent bone volume (BV/TV), structure model index (SMI), degree of anisotropy (DA) and 3-dimensional fractal dimension (3DFD). Elastic moduli of three orthogonal directions (superior-inferior (SI), medial-lateral (ML), andterior-posterior (AP) direction) were calculated through finite element analysis. Results: Elastic modulus of superior-inferior direction was higher than those of other directions. Elastic moduli of 3 orthogonal directions showed different correlation with 3D architectural parameters. Elastic moduli of SI and ML directions showed significant strong to moderate correlation with BV/TV, SMI and 3DFD. Conclusion: Elastic modulus of cancellous bone of pig mandibular condyle was highest in the SI direction and it was supposed that the change into plate-like structure of trabeculae was mainly affected by increase of trabeculae of SI and ML directions.

This study showed that the highest temperature point of the Dongrae thermal spring in Pusan was moved to the north direction of the Dongrae fault as times goes by. The Br concentration(1.5mg/L) in Dongrae thermal waters indicated the influence of 2% seawater mixing. If the simple mixing without hydrochemical reaction occurs between seawater and thermal water, the concentration of Mg will be about 20mg/L. But the low concentration(0.1 mg/L) of Mg, contrary to high concentration(10 mg/L) of surrounding groundwater not affected by thermal water, suggested the thermal water, seawater and rock interactions. The calculation of saturation index(SI) by using the geochemical code of EQ3NR showed that the Mg in thermal groundwater, which was introduced by seawater, was removed by the precipitation of Antigorite (SI: log Q/K =71.753, $Mg_{48}Si_{24}O_{85}(OH)_{62}$) and Tremolite (SI: 8.463, $Ca_2Mg_5Si_8O_{22}(OH)_2$), Talc (SI: 6.409, $Mg_3Si_4O_{10}(OH)_2$), Dolomite (SI: 2.014, $CaMg(CO_3)_2$), Chrysotile (SI: 3.698, $Mg_3Si_2O_5(OH)_4$) in the crack of fault zone. The highest temperature point in the study area will move to north direction and stop in the Jangjun area without the input of seawater.
