There have been conducted a lot of works on shear behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete beams. Fiber reinforced concrete beams without shear reinforcement were tested to determine their cracking shear strengths and ultimate shear capacities. Results of tests on 14 reinforced concrete beams (including 11 containing steel fibers) are reported. Two parameters were varied in the study, namely, the volume fraction of fibers and shear span-to-depth ratio. The effects of fiber incorporation on failure modes, deflections, cracking shear strength, and ul~imate shear strength have been examined. Resistance to shear stresses have been found to be improved by the inclusion of fibers, The mode of failure changed from shear to flexure when the shear span-to-depth ratio exceeds 3.4. Based on these investigations, a method of computing the shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete beam is suggested. The comparisons between computed values and expenmentally observed values are shown to verify the proposed theoretical treatment and steel fibers efficiency.
In order to predict the shear strengths of reinforced concrete beams, many deterministic models have been developed based on rules of mechanics and on experimental test results. While the constant and variable angle truss models are known to provide reliable bases and to give reasonable predictions for the shear strengths of members with shear reinforcement, in the case of members without shear reinforcement, even advanced models with complicated procedures may show lack of accuracy or lead to fairly different predictions from other similar models. For this reason, many research efforts have been made for more accurate predictions, which resulted in important recent publications. This paper develops probabilistic shear strength models for reinforced concrete beams without shear reinforcement based on deterministic shear strength models, understanding of shear transfer mechanisms and influential parameters, and experimental test results reported in the literature. Using a Bayesian parameter estimation method, the biases of base deterministic models are identified as algebraic functions of input parameters and the errors of the developed models remaining after the bias-correction are quantified in a stochastic manner. The proposed probabilistic models predict the shear strengths with improved accuracy and help incorporate the model uncertainties into vulnerability estimations and risk-quantified designs.

The Precast concrete(PC) modular structures are a method of assembling pre-fabricated unit modules in the construction site. The essential aim of modular structures is to introduce a connection method that can ensure splicing performance and effectively resist shear strength. This study proposed PC module using a connecting plate that can replace splice sleeves and shear keys used in the conventional PC modular structures. To evaluate the splicing performance and shear capacity of the proposed method, the shear test was conducted by fabricating one monolithic reinforced concrete(RC) beam and two PC modular beams with a shear span-to-depth ratio as variables. The experimental results showed that the shear capacity of the PC modular beam was about 89% compared to that of the RC beam, and showed a failure of the RC beam according to the shear span-to-depth ratio. Therefore, it was considered that the connecting plate effectively transferred the stress between each PC module through the joint and ensure integrity. In addition, the applicability of shear strength equation of ACI 318-19 and Zsutty's equation to PC modular beams were evaluated. Results demonstrated that the improved shear strength equations are needed to consider reduction of shear strength in PC modules.

Experimental study on strength characteristics of frozen soils is necessary for the safety evaluation of design and construction in cold region. The objective of this study is to evaluate the direct shear strength of frozen soils obtained from traditional system (Type-1), system with roller on the upper shear box (Type-2), and system with fixed upper shear box separated from bottom shear box (Type-3). Specimens mixed with sand, silt, and water are frozen to $-5^{\circ}C$, and then direct shear tests are conducted under the normal stress of 5, 10, 25, and 50 kPa. Experimental results show that the upper shear box of Type-1 touches the bottom shear box due to the rotation of the upper shear box. The shear strength obtained from Type-2 is overestimated because the preventing rotation force is added to shear force. Type-3 may acquire the only strength of the specimen, and shear strain at peak shear strength is similar to that at the beginning of vertical displacement occurrence. In addition, internal friction angle and cohesion at both peak and residual stresses in Type-3 are smaller than those of Type-2. This study shows that high strength specimens including frozen soils can be effectively evaluated using improved shear box system such as Type-3.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear strength of reinforced concrete beam according to beam section size and shear reinforcement ratio. A total of nine specimens were tested and designed concrete compressive strength is 24 MPa. The main variables are shear reinforcement ratio and beam section size fixed with shear span to depth ratio (a/d = 2.5), the tensile reinforcement ratio (${\rho}=0.013$) and width to depth ratio (h/b = 1.5). The test specimens were divided into three series of S1 ($225{\times}338mm$), S2 ($270{\times}405mm$) and S3 ($315{\times}473mm$), respectively. The experimental results show that all specimens represent diagonal tensile failure. For $S^*-1$ specimens (d/s=0), the shear strength decreased by 33% and 46% with increasing the beam effective depth, 26% and 33% for $S^*-2$ specimens (d/s=1.5) and 16% and 20% for $S^*-3$ specimens (d/s=2.0) respectively. As the shear reinforcement ratio increases, the decrease range in shear strength decreases. In other words, this means that as the shear reinforcement ratio increases, the size effect of concrete decreases. In the S1 series, the shear strength increased by 39% and 41% as the shear reinforcement ratio increased, 54% and 76% in the S2 series and 66% and 100% in the S3 series, respectively. As the effective depth of beam increases, the increase range of shear strength increases. This means that the effect of shear reinforcement increases as the beam effective depth increases. As a result of comparing experimental values with theoretical values by standard equation and proposed equation, the ratio by Zsutty and Bazant's equation is 1.30 ~ 1.36 and the ratio by KBC1 and KBC2 is 1.55~.163, respectively. Therefore, Zsutty and Bazant's proposed equation is more likely to reflect the experimental data. The current standard for shear reinforcement ratio (i.e., $S_{max}=d/2$) is expected to be somewhat relaxed because the ratio of experimental values to theoretical values was found to be 1.01 ~ 1.44 for most specimens.

This study carried out a shear experiment on concrete deep beam reinforced AFRP to investigate the shear strength of deep beam. The test was conducted on 8 specimens, and the variables were shear span ratio, reinforcement ratio, effective depth, and rebar type. We compared shear strength using ACI 318-08 STM with proposed equations that considered arching action according to shear span ratio. As a result, it was found that shear strength of deep beam reinforced AFRP rebar presented higher shear strength than steel rebar. ACI STM's predictions are more accurate than other predicting equations, and thus this research proposed model versus effective compressive strength of the concrete strut that considered strut size effect based on test results. The predictions obtained using the proposed model are in better agreement than previous equations and codes.

This study presents a simple method to improve the bond performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams having high-strength shear reinforcement. In general, the yield strength and the ratio of shear reinforcements are the main parameters governing the shear capacity of RC beams. The yield strength of shear reinforcement, however, has little influence on the bond capacity of RC beams. Therefore, a sudden bond failure of the members with high-strength shear reinforcement can occur before flexural failure. To estimate the structural performance of the proposed method, four RC beams were cast and tested. The main test parameters were the yield strength, ratio, and reinforcing types of shear reinforcements. The experimental results indicated that the proposed method was able to effectively improve the bond performance of RC beams with high-strength shear reinforcement.

In order to attain enhanced seismic performance of RC bridges, premature shear failure prior to the achievement of target ductilities of the piers should be prevented. For this purpose, a reliable shear strength evaluation is required. The shear strength of an RC column subjected to a lateral force decreases with an increase in ductility. Many empirical equations for the shear strength have been proposed by many researchers. However, there are many discrepancies in the initial shear strength in the low ductility range, and in the decrease rate according to the ductility. In this study, a new empirical equation of shear strength considering the displacement ductility effect has been proposed, in which the initial shear strength equation proposed by the authors was revised on the basis of the investigation of many other researchers' test results. The resulting improvement in accuracy is confirmed by comparison with other empirical equations.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between various resin-bonded retainers and enamel according to the adhesive resins and retention types and observe the bond filure modes with scanning electron microscope(SEM). For this purpose, the followin eight sub-groups were tested in shear bond strength : 1) electrochemically etched group(Verabond) using Panavia EX and Superbond C&B 2) tin-plated group(PG-S) using Panavia EX and Superbond C&B 3) salt-treated group(Verabond) using Panavia EX and Superbond C&B 4) meshtreated group(Verabond) using Panavia EX and Superbond C&B. Thermocycling test was conducted on the condition of 15 second dwell time each in $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$bath. Shear bond strength was measured by Instron Universal Testing Machine(medel 1125). The obtained results were as follows : 1. After thermocycling, the shear bond strengths of tin-plated group and electrochemically etched group were significantly greater than those of salt-treated group and mesh-treated group. And the shear bond strength of Panavia EX was greater than that of Superbond C&B with salt-treated group and tin-plated group(p<0.05). 2. Before thermocycling, electrochemically etched group using Superbond C&B produced the greatest shear bond strength(p<0.01). 3. The shear bond strength of electrochemically etched group using Superbond C&B was significantly decreased after thermocycling(p<0.01). 4. In observation of bond failure modes before thermocycling, Panavia EX highly exhibited enamel fracture. Tin-plated group using Superbond C&B adhesive failure between metal and resin and electrochemically etched group using Superbond C&B exhibited adhesive failure between enamel and rdsin. 5. In observation of failure modes after thermocycling, Panavia EX exhibited cohesive failure and Superbond C&B exhibited adhesive failure between resin and metal.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of the composite resin bonded on the bleached enamel surface according to its surface treatment. 90 extracted human premolars were divided into six groups. : enamel unbleached (control group) and enamel bleached with 15% carbamide peroxide for 2 weeks (experimental groups: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). The surface of bleached enamel in all experimental groups was treated by following manners. Experimental group 1 : catalase immersion for 3 mimutes. Experimental group 2 : catalase immersion for 15 mimutes. Experimental group 3 : artificial saliva immersion for 1 hour. Experimental group 4 : artificial saliva immersion for 48 hours. Experimental group 5: surface reduction of the bleached enamel about 0.5mm-1mm with superfine diamond bur. Composite resin molds(3mm height, 3mm diameter) were bonded to the untreated enamel and treated. The shear bond strengths of composite resin bonded to enamel of each specimen were tested with universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 5mm/min and 500Kg in full scale and analyzed statistically. The following results were obtained : 1. Control group had the highest shear bond strength with $19.92{\pm}5.14$ MPa and experimental group 5 had the lowest shear bond strength with $11.15{\pm}4.23$ MPa. 2. Control group showed significant differences in shear bond strength with experimental group 1(P<0.05). 3. Control group showed significant differences in shear bond strength with experimental group 5(P<0.05). 4. Experimental group 4 showed significant differences in shear bond strength with experimental group 5(P<0.05). 5. Experimental group 3 showed no significant differences in shear bond strength with experimental group 4(P<0.05).
