In regions of high shear forces in composite bridges, headed stud shear connectors need to be arranged with a small spacing in order to satisfy the design requirement of resisting the high interface shear force present at this location. Despite this, studies related to groups of headed studs are somewhat rare. This paper presents an investigation of the static behaviour of grouped stud shear connectors in high-strength concrete. Descriptions are given of five push-out test specimens with different arrangements of the studs that were fabricated and tested, and the failure modes, load-slip response, ultimate load capacities and related slip values that were obtained are reported. It is found that the load-slip equation given by some researchers based on a single stud shear connector in normal strength concrete do not apply to grouped stud shear connectors in high-strength concrete, and an algebraic load-slip expression is proposed based on the test results. Comparisons between the test results and the formulae provided by some national codes show that the equations for the ultimate capacity provided in these codes are conservative when used for connectors in high-strength concrete. A reduction coefficient is proposed to take into account the effect of the studs being in a group.
The punching shear strength of concrete flat plates is one of the topics of intensive research in recent years by various concrete structures researchers. This paper reviews four current methods of analysing the punching shear strength at the corner-and edge-column positions of reinforced concrete flat plates. They include those recommended in the Australian Standard AS3600-1988, the American Concrete Institute ACI318-89 and the British Standard on Concrete Practices (BS8110) as well as the approach developed at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Based on half-scale model test results, a comparative study of these four analysis methods is made with regard to their limitation, accuracy and reliability. It is found that the Wollongong approach in general gives the best performance in predicting the punching shear strength of flat plates with torsion strips and those with spandrel beams. The Australian Standard procedure performs just as satisfactorily for flat plates with torsion strips but tends to be unsafe for those with spandrel beams. Both the ACI and the British methods are applicable only to flat plates with torsion strips; they also tend to give unsafe predictions for the punching shear strength.
A new nonlinear model was developed to evaluate the shear resistance of steel fiber-reinforced concrete beams (SFRCB) using linear genetic programming (LGP). The proposed model relates the shear strength to the geometrical and mechanical properties of SFRCB. The best model was selected after developing and controlling several models with different combinations of the influencing parameters. The models were developed using a comprehensive database containing 213 test results of SFRC beams without stirrups obtained through an extensive literature review. The database includes experimental results for normal and high-strength concrete beams. To verify the applicability of the proposed model, it was employed to estimate the shear strength of a part of test results that were not included in the modeling process. The external validation of the model was further verified using several statistical criteria recommended by researchers. The contributions of the parameters affecting the shear strength were evaluated through a sensitivity analysis. The results indicate that the LGP model gives precise estimates of the shear strength of SFRCB. The prediction performance of the model is significantly better than several solutions found in the literature. The LGP-based design equation is remarkably straightforward and useful for pre-design applications.

Weathered soil slope loses its shear strength if it is exposed in the air for a long time or in contact with water. And this kind of strength loss is remarkable in dam slope which has very big difference in water level according to the season. In this study, shear strength loss of weathered soil due to saturation had been found out through dryness and wetness repetition direct shear test. Also relation between penetration blow number(Nc) and shear strength parameter had been found out through small sized dynamic cone penetration test device and the correlation equation of Nc had been proposed through artificial neural network analysis to estimate shear strength parameter easily.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of compomers according to dentin surface treatment. Two materials of compomer were devided into six groups. The compomer used in this study were Dyract AP(D) and F2000(F), Group 1 (DN) and 4(FN) were treated according to manufacturers instructions as control groups. Group 2(DE) and 5(FE) were treated with 37% phosphoric acid and group 3(DA) and 6(FA) were treated with air abrasion unit (80 psi, 50 m aluminum oxide particles) respectively as experimental groups. After dentin surface treatment, compomers were bonded. Completed samples were stored in 100% humidity. 37C during 7 days, and then, the shear bond strength of specimens were evaluated. The results were as follows: 1. In the case of Dyract AP, the shear bond strength was showed the highest value of 9.10 MPa in dentin surface treatment with air abrasion unit. but there were no significant differences to the other groups. 2. In the case of F2000. the shear bond strength was showed the highest value of 13.51MPa and there were significant differences to the other groups(p<0.05). 3. The shear bond strength of F2000 was higher than Dyract AP in each dentin surface treatment. and in the case of etching and air abrasion. there were significant differences(p<0.05). 4. As a result of observation of SEM. the most of fracture pattern was adhesive failure in group 1(DN), 2(DE) and 4(FN), and cohesive failure in group 3(DA), S(FE) and 6(FA).
A significantly thick zone of steep slopes is commonly encountered above groundwater table and the soils within this zone are unsaturated with negative pore-water pressures (i.e., matric suction). Matric suction contributes significantly to the shear strength of soil and to the factor of safety of unsaturated slopes. However, infiltration during rainfall increases the pore-water pressure in soil resulting in a decrease in the matric suction and the shear strength of the soil. As a result, rainfall infiltration may eventually trigger a slope failure. Therefore, understanding of shear strength characteristics of saturated and unsaturated soils under shearing-infiltration (SI) conditions have direct implications in assessment of slope stability under rainfall conditions. This paper presents results from a series of consolidated drained (CD) and shearing-infiltration (SI) tests. Results show that the failure envelope obtained from the shearing-infiltration tests is independent of the infiltration rate. Failure envelopes obtained from CD and SI tests appear to be similar. For practical purposes the shear strength parameters from the CD tests can be used in stability analyses of slopes under rainfall conditions. The SI tests might be performed to obtain more conservative shear strength parameters and to study the pore-water pressure changes during infiltration.
This study was carried out to discuss feasibility of high density polyethylene(HDPE) as a new substitute for the conventional adhesives in plywood manufacture. Plywood was composed of radiata pine(Pinus radiata) and Malas(Homallium feotidium) veneers and bonded by HDPE. Adhesion characteristics and anatomical scanning has been examined through tensile-shear strength test and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The results are as follows; 1. Optimum loading quantity was 15g/$(30.3{\times}30.3)cm^2$, and tensile-shear strength increased with the increase of loading quantity. 2. Even at the hot pressing time of 1 minute, tensile-shear strength met the value of KS(over the 7.5kgf/$cm^2$), and tensile-shear strength increased with the increase of hot pressing time. 3. Plywood composed of veneer at moisture content of 19.6% showed similar tensile-shear strength to that at air conditioned moisture content of 11.4%. 4. Under the same condition of hot pressing time, tensile-shear strength of plywood bonded by HDPE met the KS value of boil and wet test and proved the same group as phenol formaldehyde adhesive. 5. HDPE films showed mechanical adhesion through penetration into the lathe check and ray of veneer.
For the fast construction and replacement of bridges in urban area, a prefabricated bridge system can be an excellent alternative. Details of prefabricated slabs for PSC girders were developed and static tests on shear connections were conducted to propose design equations of the shear connection. Stirrups and stud connectors were used as shear connectors and non-shrink mortar was used for the filling material in shear pockets for shear connectors. Stirrups and studs were fabricated to insert embedded nut-type devices in PSC girders. Shear strength of the shear connection considering chemical bond, friction and mechanical connectors was evaluated and empirical equations were suggested. Due to the mechanical connectors, ultimate slip capacity of the shear connection was sufficient for shear load redistribution, and suggested details of the shear connection showed good performance in terms of strength and ductility.

Laboratory experiments and numerical simulations using Particle Flow Code (PFC2D) were performed to study the effects of joint separation and joint overlapping on the full failure behavior of rock bridges under direct shear loading. Through numerical direct shear tests, the failure process is visually observed and the failure patterns are achieved with reasonable conformity with the experimental results. The simulation results clearly showed that cracks developed during the test were predominantly tension cracks. It was deduced that the failure pattern was mostly influenced by both of the joint separation and joint overlapping while the shear strength is closely related to the failure pattern and its failure mechanism. The studies revealed that shear strength of rock bridges are increased with increasing in the joint separation. Also, it was observed that for a fixed cross sectional area of rock bridges, shear strength of overlapped joints are less than the shear strength of non-overlapped joints.

This is an experimental investigation the shear behavior of reinforced concrete with stirrup of which stress ranges 0.0㎏/㎠ to 7.0㎏/㎠. Five rectangular beams which concrete strengths are 287㎏/㎠ and 380㎏/㎠, a/d=3, and main steel ratio equal to 1.96% was tested. Those were designed to fail in shear. The shear cracking load and failure load were measured and compared with ACI's equation and Zutty's proposed equation. The results are following : ACI equation and Zutty's equation are consertive. As the concrete compressive strength increased, reserved shear strength of beams with minimum web reinforcement decreases. According to increase of web reinforcement , the rate of increases of shear strength is decreased. The failure modes of specimen with minimum web reinforcement are shear compression failure which is reached after diagonal shear cracking.
