Background: Breast cancer is a treatable disease, but some women reject conventional treatment in favor of unproven "alternative therapies," which may have serious implications for their survival. Therefore, a process is needed to lead them to more appropriate treatment choices. Case presentation: Here, we present the case of a 51-year-old Korean female diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer (stage IIB, T2N1M0) in Nov. 2015. She refused a standard surgical resection together with chemotherapy and opted instead for moxibustion by nonmedical personnel. Consequently, her preference for alternative therapy without conventional treatment exacerbated her disease. Just a little over a year later, integrative cancer treatment, including chemotherapy based on histological founding, and complementary treatment, comprised of acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine, were administered for 5 months. Finally, she successfully underwent modified radical mastectomy showing a pathological complete response. She received only adjuvant chemotherapy without any alternative medicine afterwards, and she maintained a good status without recurrence. Conclusion: In the case of breast cancer patients who are resistant to surgery and chemotherapy, integrative therapy considering adverse effects from conventional treatment should be preferred to bitter opposition to alternative medicine.

Ecklonia cava (EC) has been widely utilized as an ingredient in commercial products such as functional foods and cosmeceuticals. Recently it has been found that Sargassum horneri (SH) has been invading on Jeju Island coast area by its huge blooming. Moreover, both seaweeds are considering as important ingredients in traditional medicine specifically in East-Asian countries (China, Japan, and Korea). In the present study, we attempted to compare anti-inflammatory properties of 70% ethanolic extracts of EC (ECE), SH (SHE), and their different combinations on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated RAW 264.7 cells. Results indicated that 8 : 2 combinations of ECE : SHE significantly inhibited LPS-activated inflammatory responses (cytokines, protein, and gene expression) in RAW 264.7 macrophage cells compared to the respective extracts and other combinations. The synergistic effect of ECE and SHE was found to be prominent than the effects of ECE or SHE alone. These observations provide useful information for the industrial formulation of functional materials (functional foods and cosmeceuticals) using these two particular seaweeds in Jeju Island of South Korea.

A 72-year-old female patient was presented complaining of unbearable abdominal pain in the upper left quadrant at our hospital. Two weeks earlier she had developed a vesicular eruption on the right C3 dermatome and 1 week earlier she had experienced a vesicular eruption on the left T11 dermatome. Her medical history was unremarkable. She had suffered from severe abdominal pain in the upper left quadrant for 10 days and the mild pain in the right shoulder region for 20 days. The pain in the upper left quadrant had increased and was unresponsive to drugs prescribed by the local clinic. And we performed T11 root block with 0.5% lidocaine 5 ml and dexametasone 5 mg, and thoracic epidural blockade on 1st hospital day under diagnosis of herpes zoster infection. Her VAS were improved from 10 to 2 on 2nd hospital day. We performed thoracic epidural blockade with 0.5% lidocaine 6 ml. Her VAS were changed from 2 to 7 and so then we performed the thoracic epidural blockade with 0.5% lidocaine 5 ml and triamcinolone 40 mg on 3rd hospital day. On 4th hospital day, her VAS were from 7 to 1. After 4 month of our managements she was tolerable without any medications.

Acute mercury inhalation poisoning is a rare cause of acute peripheral neuropathy. A 44-year-old female inhaled the fume from heating mercury to treat her palmar dermatitis. For 4 days, this procedure was done for 2-3 minutes after each meal. She subsequently complained flu like symptoms, such as headache, toothache, myalgia and arthralgia. She was admitted for 9 days and then symptoms disappeared. About 3 weeks after exposure, both knee pain developed and then she could not walk. To treat mercury intoxication, she was referred to our hospital. At that time, initial laboratory data were within normal limits, but blood and urinary mercury level were 5.6 11$\mu$g/dl, 132.8 $\mu$g/L. After treatment with D-penicillamine for 7 days, blood and urinary mercury level were 3.9 1$\mu$g/dl, 177.3 $\mu$g/L. During the following 1 month, both leg symptoms remained. Nerve conduction studies were performed, both leg sensory nerve amplitude decreased. These findings were suggestive of peripheral polyneuropathy.

Queen Jangyeol was proclaimed as the second wife of King Injo at the age of 15 in 1638. This study was carried out in order to confirm if Queen Jangyeol actually came down with epilepsy or if she pretended to do. The keywords, "Jungjeon" and "Junggungjeon" were searched among the articles from "Seungjeongwonilgi" in the 16th reign to the 27th reign of King Injo. After that, articles only related to convulsion were selected. The symptom of convulsion and the therapy were analyzed. King Injo gave an order, and royal doctors diagnosed the queen's illness as epilepsy in August in the 23th reign. The Queen was confined in Gyeongdeok in November, and took herbal drugs for treating the epilepsy. After the death of King Injo, she stopped taking the drugs. As the Queen's epilepsy took place consistently more than 1~2 times in a month, it is the generalized tonic-clonic seizure. Also, it is the epilepsy overlapping reiteration with the brain function disorder because the convulsion lasted throughout 1 hour. However, after King Injo died, she lived for long without the brain function disorder. So it is difficult to judge she actually came down with the epilepsy.

Oligomeganephronia is a rare congenital form of bilateral renal hypoplasia histologically characterized by reduction in number and hypertrophy of nephrons. Clinically, this condition is presented in early infancy with vomiting, polyuria, polydipsia and dehydration. The problems are readily corrected, but slowly progressive renal failure follows accompanied by failure to thrive, short stature, and renal osteodystrophy. We experienced three cases of oligomeganephronia. Case 1. : A 3 2/12 years old female child was incidentally diagnosed as renal failure at age of 2 months when she was hospitalized due to pneumonia. She had open renal biopsy and was diagnosed as bilateral dysplastic kidney. On OPD follow-up, she progressed to end-stage renal failure (BUN/Cr 114/4.6 mg/dl) and had renal transplantation. The specimen was shrunk remarkably and light microscopy showed oligomeganephronia. Case 2. : A 14 8/12 years old female child with proteinuria was detected in an annual urine screening program for school children, she was diagnosed as renal failure (BUN/Cr 33.9/4.1 mg/dl), and had $5{\times}4{\times}3\;cm$ sized mass on abdominal CT scan. She had renal biopsy, and the specimen showed oligomeganephronia. She had hemodialysis for six months, and renal transplantation along with bilateral nephrectomy was performed. Case 3. : A 14 8/12 years old male child was diagnosed having chronic nephritis and chronic renal failure at 3 years old, progressed to end-stage renal failure (BUN/Cr 87/9.6 mg/dl) on OPD follow-up, and had a rephrectomy and renal transplantation. The biopsy specimen showed oligomeganephronic hypoplasia, secondary focal segmental glomerolosclerosis, and chronic interstitial nephritis. We report 3 cases of oligomeganephronia that progressed to end-stage renal failure and had successful renal transplantation with a brief review of related literatures.

To identify nongenotoxic carcinogen determined as negative by ICH guideline-recommended standard genotoxicity test battery; Ames test, chromosome aberration assay, mouse lymphoma $tk^{+/-}$ assay, in vivo micronucleus assay, we picked bisphenol A as a model compound. In this study, we applied in vitro BalB/c 3T3 cell transformation assay and Syrian hamster embryo (SHE) cell transfarmation assay. Bisphenol A was treated upto $769.2 ug/m{\ell}$ in BalB/c 3T3 cells and upto $125 ug/m{\ell}$ in SHE cells. bisphenol A didn't induced morphological transformation both with one stage treatment protocol and with two stage treatment protocol. But, treated far 48 hr, Bisphenol A induced morphological transformation significantly in SHE cells.

Stellate ganglion block(SGB) is frequently performed to relieve a patient from headache of various. We experienced a rare case of subarachnoid hemorrhage by aneurysmal rupture after SGB. A 46-year-old female patient diagnosed with tension headache, and normal MRI finding consulted our pain clinic. We performed right SGB in combination with greater occipital nerve block. The next day, we performed left SGB with 6 ml of 0.25% bupivacaine. She had no evidence of subarachnoid block or intravascular injection. 15 minutes after injection, she abruptly developed convulsion and loss of consciousness. She was given artificial respiration with oxygen. The diagnosis of ruptured left posterior communicating aneurysm was confirmed by 4-vessels angiography.

Purpose: The purpose of this case study is to report the effect of just oriental treatments to the breast cancer. Methods: A 37-year-old woman had breast cancer of stage II according AJCC staging system, but she dosen't want be operated for a tumor. So, she was treated with herbal medicine, acuputure, moxa, patch made from herb medicine and depletion for four weeks. In herbal theraphy sihosogansan and saengmaksan. The patch made from herb medicine is put on the skin of the cancer. Depletion is done on the breast cancer, too. In acuputure theraphy, Sojangjeonggyeok(小腸正格) was used. In Moxa theraphy Chungwan, Kwanwon were used. Results: After oriental medicine for 27 days, she was on the mend about the size, complexion, solidity and pain of the breast cancer. Conclusion: This study shows that breast cancer is improved if only oriental treatments. But after this, further approach and studys on the breast cancer.
