  • Although many studies have been carried out about binary gas mixtures with $SF_6$, few studies were presented about breakdown characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures. At present study the breakdown characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures in non-uniform field was performed. The experiments were carried out under AC voltage and standard lightning impulse(SLI) voltage. Breakdown characteristics were investigated for $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures when AC voltages and standard lighting impulse voltage was applied in a needle-plane. The needle-plane electrode whose gap distance was 3 mm were used in a test chamber. $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures contained from 0 to 100% $SF_6$ and the experimental gas pressure ranged from 0.1 to 0.5 MPa. The breakdown characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures in non-uniform field may be influenced by defects like needle-shaped protrusions. In case of slowly rising SLI voltage and AC voltage it is enhanced by corona-stabilization. This phenomena caused by the ion drift during streamer development and the resulting space-charge is investigated. In non-uniform field under negative SLI voltage the breakdown voltage was increase linearly but under positive SLI voltage the breakdown voltage increase non-linearly. The breakdown voltage in needle-plane electrode displayed N shape characteristics for increasing the content of $SF_6$ at AC voltage. $SF_6/CF_4$ mixture has good dielectric strength and arc-extinguishing properties than pure SF6. This paper presents experimental results on breakdown characteristics for various mixtures of $SF_6/CF_4$ at practical pressures. We could make an environment friendly gas insulation material with maintaining dielectric strength by combing $SF_6\;and\;CF_4$ which generates a lower lever of the global warming effect.

  • Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) uses large amount of SF6, one of the potent greenhouse gases, in electric equipment for electrical insulation. KEPCO is developing SF6 recovery and purification technology to minimize the release of SF6 into the environment, to secure certified emission reduction, and to save purchase cost of new SF6 by reusing the refined SF6. A prototype SF6 purification system using cryogenic solidification technology has been built in demonstration scale. To evaluate the feasibility of the commercialization, the system has been operated to purify large amount of used SF6 in a long-term operation and the performance has been economically evaluated. The system was stable enough for commercial operation such that it was able to purify 5.4 tons of used SF6 from power transmission equipment in 2-month operation. Over 99% of the SF6 was recovered from the used gas and the purity of the purified gas was over 99.7 vol%. The operation cost, which is the cost of refrigerant (liquid nitrogen), electricity and labor, per kilogram of purified SF6 was 6,526 KRW. Considering the price of new SF6 in Korea is about 15,000 KRW per kilogram this year, about 56% of the purchase cost can be saved.

  • A ring R is called a left (right) SF-ring if simple left (right) R-modules are flat. It is still unknown whether a left (right) SF-ring is von Neumann regular. In this paper, we give some conditions for a left (right) SF-ring to be (a) von Neumann regular; (b) strongly regular; (c) division ring. It is proved that: (1) a right SF-ring R is regular if maximal essential right (left) ideals of R are weakly left (right) ideals of R (this result gives an affirmative answer to the question raised by Zhang in 1994); (2) a left SF-ring R is strongly regular if every non-zero left (right) ideal of R contains a non-zero left (right) ideal of R which is a W-ideal; (3) if R is a left SF-ring such that $l(x)(r(x))$ is an essential left (right) ideal for every right (left) zero divisor x of R, then R is a division ring.

  • In case that W/B is 20%, 30%, 40% respectively, the effects of additive and shrinkage reducing agent on the autogenous shrinkage for high strengthen concrete through the substitution of FA and SF analysis were obtained as following conclusions. When the ratio of FA increased, the compressive strength of high strengthen concrete is decreased in the early times. As the ratio of SF increase, the compressive strength also increased. Comparing with PC(Portland Cement) for 7 days curing, the strength is 13.8% of FA10 + SR0.5 and 19.2% of FA15 + SR0.5 decreased when W/B is 20%, and 6.1% of SF7.5 + SR0.5, 4.8% of SF15 + SR0.5, the strength are increased. In case that W/B is 30%, 13.1% of FA10 + SR0.5 19.1% of FA15 + SR0.5 the strength is decreased and 4.1% of SF 7.5 + SR0.5, 7.2% of SF15 + SR0.5 the strength are increased. In case of W/B 40%, 4.3% of FA10 + SR0.5, and 8.7% of FA15 + SR0.5, the strength is decreased and 3.3% of SF7.5 + SR0.5, 6.3% SF15 + SR0.5 the strength is increased. When the ratio of SR is 0.5%, autogenous shrinkage strain of OPC concrete appeared $-417{\times}10-6$ in 56days curing, the shrinkage strain is decreased 23.7%. The reducing effects of autogenous shrinkage when the mineral and shrinkage agent are used are the same as ones when only shrinkage agent used.

At present study the breakdown characteristics of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures in uniform and nonuniform field was performed. The experiments were carried out under AC voltages. The sphere-sphere electrode whose gap distance was 1 mm was used and the point-plane electrode whose gap distance was 3 mm was used in a test chamber. $SF_6/CF_4$ mixture contained 20% $SF_6$ and 80% $CF_4$ and the experimental gas pressure ranged from 0.1 to 0.5 MPa. The results show that addition of $SF_6/CF_4$ mixtures increase AC breakdown voltages. In uniform field the breakdown voltages of gas were linearly increased according to the pressure. However in nonuniform field the breakdown voltages of gas were increased nonlinearly.

  • Two biopolymers, silk fibroin (SF) and chitosan, were conjugated by tyrosinase (EC 1.14.18.1), a polyphenolic oxidase, to improve their physicochemical properties, such as their thermal properties and morphological stabilities in organic solvents. The crosslinking between SF and chitosan took place mainly through Michael addition reactions. A main reaction between the amino groups in chitosan and o-quinone, the oxidation product of the tyrosyl residue in SF, was confirmed by UV spectroscopy. Measurements of viscosity and light scattering indicated that the crosslinked SF/chitosan conjugate was compact: it had a smaller particle size because of tight bonding forces between the SF and chitosan molecular chains. Thermal decomposition of SF/chitosan conjugates crosslinked by tyrosinase occurred at higher temperatures. The adhesiveness of the SF/chitosan conjugates decreased steadily as the crosslinking reaction progressed. We propose that this new crosslinking method be used for the preparation of silk fibroin/chitosan conjugates using tyrosinase. We expect that SF/chitosan conjugates crosslinked by tyrosinase can be used preferentially in biomedical applications because of its unique properties and non-toxicity.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of surfactant on the dissolution of relatively hydrophilic drugs, such as sulfanilamide (SF) and sulfacetamide (SFA) granules prepared by wet granulation. The additive incorporated in the granules is starch or microcrystalline cellulose(MCC) as an excipient, PVP as a binder, and polysorbate 80 (P-80) as a surfactant. The dissolution characteristics of SF and SFA granules in distilled water were as follows: The values of T$_{75%}$ were 4.60 and 2.50min, respectively for SF and SFA granules. Incorporation of 0.1% P-80 in SF granule ratarded the dissolution of SF as compared with control, but addition of 0.1% P-80 to SFA granule improved the dissolution of SFA in comparison with control. In SF and SFA granules formulated with either starch or PVP, the release of the drug was increased as compared with control. In SF granule, the dissolution of the drug was further reduced by the inclusion of P-80 in the granule containing starch or PVP. Incorporation of P-80 in SFA granule with starch or PVP affected little on the dissolution of the drug. Addition of a nonswelling excipient, MCC decreased the dissolution rate of SF and SFA granules. as compared with each control. The presence of P-80 in these granules made the dissolution rate slower in comparison with the granules containing only MCC.

  • PURPOSE. To assess removable prosthetic restoration tolerance according to the patient section of the short form of the Gagging Problem Assessment Questionnaire (GPA-pa SF) and the influence of gender, education level and prosthesis type and denture-related mucosal irritation on the GPA-pa SF scores before treatment and over a period of two months after prosthesis insertion. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 130 participants who required removable prosthesis were surveyed with a standard form that included questions regarding age, gender, education level, dental attendance, and prosthetic restoration type. Participants answered the GPA-pa SF before restoration (T0) and 1 day (T1), 2 days (T2), 15 days (T3), 1 month (T4), and 2 months (T5) after prosthesis insertion. RESULTS. Of the 130 participants, 110 participants completed the prosthetic restoration procedure, but only 93 of these were able to use the prosthesis over the two-month period. The mean GPA-pa SF score obtained at T0 was higher than the scores obtained at the other periods in the total of the sample. Significant difference was present between mean scores obtained at T0-T1 and T2-T3 than scores obtained at other periods (P<.05). Female participants and participants with denture-related mucosal irritation had higher GPA-pa SF scores at all time points analysed. Significant difference was present between mean GPA-pa SF scores obtained at T2-T3 than scores obtained at other periods for females and participants with denture-related mucosal irritation (P<.05). Education level and prosthesis type did not significantly influence the GPA-pa SF score at any time point analysed (P>.05). CONCLUSION. GPA-pa SF scores were higher before the restoration procedure began, and decreased over time with the use of prosthesis. Gender and denture-related mucosal irritation affected the GPA-pa SF scores.

  • Sophorae Flos (SF), a composite of flowers and flower-buds of Sophora japonica, has long been used in traditional Korean and Chinese medicines for the treatment of hemostasis and inflammation. In this study, we investigated anti-inflammatory effect of four EtOH extracts at the difference in blooming stages of flowers on LPS-induced inflammation in RAW264.7 cells. We classified the flowers of Sophora japonica with SF-1 (length of flower is shorter than calyx), SF-2 (length of calyx is shorter than flower), SF-3 (full bloom), and SF-4 (not blooming at all). We examined HPLC analysis, whether quercetin and rutin are major component of these Sophorae Flos extracts or not. As a result, SF-1 contained quercetin, but the others did not. In addition, quercetin, SF-1, and SF-4 act on the suppression of pro-inflammatory mediators including inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 ($PGE_2$) against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced activation in RAW264.7 cells. Of these, SF-1 showed the best anti-inflammatory effect. These results suggest that Sophorae Flos with the highest content of quercetin would be used for the treatment of various inflammation diseases.

  • Silk fibroin (SF) peptide has been traditionally used as a treatment for flatulence, spasms, and phlegm. In this study, we examined whether SF peptide enhanced the anti-inflammatory effect of PEP-1-FK506 binding protein (PEP-1-FK506BP) through comparing the anti-inflammatory activities of SF peptide and/or PEP-1-FK506BP. In the presence or absence of SF peptide, transduction levels of PEP-1-FK506BP into HaCaT cells and mice skin and anti-inflammatory activities of PEP-1-FK506BP were identified by Western blot and histological analyses. SF peptide alone effectively reduced both mice ear edema and the elevated levels of cyclooxygenase-2, interleukin-6 and $-1{\beta}$, and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$, showing similar anti-inflammatory effect to that of PEP-1-FK506BP. Furthermore, co-treatment with SF peptide and PEP-1-FK506BP exhibited more enhanced anti-inflammatory effects than the samples treated with SF peptides or PEP-1-FK506BP alone, suggesting the possibility that SF peptide and PEP-1-FK506BP might interact with each other. Moreover, the transduction data demonstrated that SF peptide did not affect the transduction of PEP-1-FK506BP into HaCaT cells and mice skin, indicating that the improvement of anti-inflammatory effect of PEP-1-FK506BP was not caused by enhanced transduction of PEP-1-FK506BP. Thus, these results suggest the possibility that co-treatment with SF peptide and PEP-1-FK506BP may be exploited as a useful therapy for various inflammation-related diseases.
